Shri B.Surender Mohan, CMD,. NLC and Smt. Swarna Surender Mohan honouring the senior most worker of NLC and his spouse during the Independence Day Celebrations held at Bharathi Stadium, Neyveli
NLC celebrated the 66th Independence Day at Neyveli Township. Shri B Surender Mohan,
CMD, NLC commenced the celebrations by garlanding the Mahatma Gandhi statue. Later he
unfurled the National Flag in Bharathi stadium in the presence of all Functional Directors,
Employees of the Company and NLC community. He accepted the guard of honour. CMD in his
address recalled the great work of Mahatma Gandhi and contribution of freedom fighters of India.
INDEPENDENCE DAY 2012 AT NEYVELI
NLC observed the “Safety Week celebrations” between 20.08.2012 and 26.08.2012 at
Neyveli. Each Day celebration was hosted by different units of NLC and eminent personalities from
Central and State Governments participated as chief guest. For the final day of “Neyveli Zonal level
Safety Week Celebrations” , Shri D.Sengupta, Dy. Director General of Mines Safety/Southern Zone,
Bengaluru participated as Chief Guest. In his address, he stated that NLC is one of the best
organizations practicing safety. Thermal Power Station-II and Mechanical Services bagged the
Chairman's Shield and Director's Shield for reduction in the injury rate respectively for the year 2011.
To create awareness among public and employees, a grand Safety Exhibition was organized in the
Book Fair Grounds. All the Industrial and Service Units have displayed Safety Models in their
respective pavilions.
SAFETY WEEK CELEBRATIONS AT NLC
On 04.08.2012. Shri.B.Surender Mohan, CMD, NLC inaugurated the Re-powering Yard and
Lignite Bunker Automation facility at Mine-II and a new disposal yard at New Service Units Complex
(B&C Area). The new Repowering Yard (RPY) caters the need of all three mines and repowers around
120 Dozers and Pipe layers in a year. The new Disposal Yard has got a layout area of 55000 Sq. Metre.
R8 crore has been spent towards constructing these new yards.
Mine II Lignite Bunker Control Room is automated with 16 PLC stations and 6 IP based Cameras are
installed at strategic locations for visual monitoring of the Bunker area. R11.81 crore has been spent
towards this Lignite Bunker Control Room Automation. Directors, Shri.R.Kandasamy, Shri.J.Mahil
Selvan, Shri.Sart Kumar Acharya, Shri.Rakesh Kumar, senior officials and employees participated in
the function.
NEW INFRASTRUCTURE FOR NLC
Shri B. Surender Mohan, CMD, NLC commissioned 15 nos. of Bull Dozers on 26.08.2012 at
Neyveli Mines. Out of them, 9 nos. were commissioned in Mine-I and remaining 6 nos. at Mine-II.
These dozers were procured from Zoomlion International Trading (H.K) Co. Ltd., China. This is the
first phase of the purchase and the next phase (12 nos.) will be supplied by the manufacturer. Each
Bull Dozer costs R1.19 Crore (approximately). The events were witnessed by Shri
R. Kandasamy, Director(Mines, Planning and Projects), Shri S. Kumarasamy, CGM/Mines, Shri
S. Jeyaraj, CGM/Mechanical Services, executives and employees, and representatives of Trade
Unions of both the Mines.
EQUIPMENT COMMISSIONED FOR MINES
Shri R. Kandasamy, Director (Mines, Planning & Projects) on 20-8-2012 commissioned
a new Automatic Mechanical Dust Suppression System in Bucket Wheel Excavator-1144 in
Lignite Bench System of Mine-I. This new system replaces the existing conventional spraying
system. It requires 12 minutes to fill the 4500 liters capacity over head tank fitted on the top of the
BWE. It sprays for 3 hours and covers the area effectively. Operators of the BWE can control the
system. He appreciated the executives, technicians and contract employees, involved in
designing and installation of the new mechanism and advised to introduce this system in all
BWEs in a phased manner.
NEW DUST SUPPRESSION SYSTEM INTRODUCED
On 01-08-2012 Shri B.P. Rao, CMD /BHEL along with Shri Surender Mohan
CMD/ NLC inspected the project site to assess the progress of the 2X250 MW
Thermal Power Station-II Expansion. After the inspection, both CMDs along with
Functional Directors Shri R. Kandasamy, Shri J. Mahilselvan and Shri Rakesh Kumar
discussed and worked out ways for the early commissioning of units. CMD/BHEL
assured NLC that the first unit of this project will be commissioned by October 2012.
CMD/BHEL INSPECTED TPS-II EXPANSION PROJECT
Shri B. Surender Mohan, CMD, NLC conducted the Press Meet on 31.08.2012 at
Neyveli House, Neyveli, after assuming the position as CMD. He addressed the Media
representatives about NLC's new initiatives and ongoing projects. He informed that NLC is
going to add 115 MW of power to Tamil Nadu Government in two phases in October 2012 and
March 2013 respectively from the two units of TPS-II Expansion Project. Directors, Shri
J. Mahilselvan, Shri Sarat Kumar Acharya and Shri Rakesh Kumar accompanied CMD and
clarified the queries raised by the journalists. About 75 representatives from print and
electronic media participated in the Press Meet.
A PRESS MEET BY CMD
Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (LA, R&R) Department has
launched a new Skill Development Program with a title “Vettrikani Kittum” (Success is thAchievable), for 10th and 12 Std. students of nearby villages, who are facing pubic
examinations. This program emphasizes on Personality Development Concepts like th“Self confidence”, “Born To win”, “Memory Techniques” and “Exam Skills”. On 17
Aug 2012, Shri V.S. Sankaran, GM(LA, R&R), inaugurated the First Phase of the
programme in the Boys' and Girls' Higher Secondary schools at Perperiyankuppam
village. On the first day, Nine trainers from the 'Trainers Grid' of Neyveli Chapter of
Junior Chamber International, India (JCI) provided training to 503 students.
A PROGRAMME FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN
On 10/08/2012, NLC Ltd. settled 100 land acquisition cases through Lok Adalat to the
land owners, who surrendered their land for NLC lignite mining. Shri V. S. Sankaran, General
Manager / Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement) distributed cheques to the
people at the Employee Development Centre of NLC, in the presence of Lok Adalat members
Shri Muruga Bhupathy (Retd Chief Judicial Magistrate), Smt. M.Geetha(advocate) and Smt.
D.Vembu (Social Worker). On the occasion, R1,52,54,471 was disbursed to 100 land owners
for surrendering their 9.34 Acres of land.
COMPENSATION TO LAND EVACUEES
The Neyveli Blood Donor's Association (NBDA), and Aravind Eye Hospital, Puducherry,
jointly organized a Diabetic Retinopathy Camp at the Institution of Engineers Building on
11.08.2012. Shri B. Surender Mohan, CMD/NLC inaugurated the camp in the presence of
Shri Sarat Kumar Acharya, Director (HR).
Dr. P.T. Shanmuga Sundaram, CGS/Medical, senior officials of NLC, office bearers of
NBDA participated and a team of Doctors led by Dr. Jaysree, from Aravind Eye Hospital screened
540 people from peripheral villages. Among them, 220 were diagnosed as diabetic and 30 were
affected by diabetic retinopathy and were referred for follow up treatment.
