Parking Outside School – ‘Keep Clear’ We have made numerous and successful efforts over the past few years to make the roads around our school safer for children and families to use. In addition to these efforts, from November onwards, Hackney Council will be actively enforcing the School Keep Clear markings outside our school through the use of their own CCTV cameras. The cameras will record any contraventions that take place. Penalty Charge Notices (PCN) will then be issued to motorists who do not conform to the rules. It means that motorists may not wait, stop or even drop children off to school on the yellow zigzag lines. Please be aware that the rules will apply to the road markings in Northwold Rd as well as in Geldeston Rd. We thank you for your cooperation in this.

Wednesday Coffee Mornings Every Wednesday from 9.00-10.00am there will be a coffee morning held in the Canteen. Each week, one of the school’s leaders will be talking about their area of responsibility. The next meeting is on 9th November. Mr Williams, the Maths Coordinator, will be leading the session talking about Maths in the school. More details will follow in our next newsletter.

Year 6 Parents – Secondary Transfer 2017 REMEMBER: The national deadline for completed applications is Monday 31st October. Please click below to see the new admissions booklet for Hackney Schools secondary transfers for the year 2017 – https://issuu.com/hackneylearningtrust/docs/hlt16_secondary_issuu/1?e=0/15314814 . You should have a hard copy of this as well. Parents can start applying for schools using the online application form at www.eadmissions.org.uk and The City of London Academy Shoreditch Park, the new academy opening in September 2017 at https://learningtrust.formstack.com/forms/colsp. (See next item below for more information.)

Half-Term Activities Have you been to the top of The Shard? There’s a great view of London from the top. There’s also a great deal for children this half-term. Each paying

adult can take two children for free. It’s a special half-term offer, running from 22nd to 30th October. For more details and to book tickets, visit the website - https://www.theviewfromtheshard.com/ Or for something more down to earth, maybe a free storytelling session at the Museum of London. It is 350 years since The Great Fire of London. Listen to the story of how a new London grew from the ashes of the old London, just as the phoenix rose from the ashes of its nest - http://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/museum-london . Finally, the brilliant Why festival closes on Sunday 23rd October. Focused on celebrating the rights of children and young people, there are several creative and performance workshops happening at the South Bank Centre. Be a comedian, jam with a pram or discover new outdoor games, there’s something for all ages and interests. For more information, visit the Why website - http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whatson/festivals-series/why .

P.E. – Correct Kit and P.E. Day A number of children are still coming to school with incorrect P.E. kit. Please see the list below for the correct kit. In particular, children are wearing leggings or jogging bottoms that aren’t black. On your child’s P.E. day, your child will come to school in their P.E. kit* (NOT SCHOOL UNIFORM) and wear it for the whole day. Your child needs to wear the school’s P.E. kit: Black school hoodie (with your child’s name in

house colour)

House colour T-Shirt with your child’s name

Plain black jogging bottoms (Leggings, jogging

bottoms in other colours or with logos are not

acceptable)

Plimsolls or trainers

The P.E. day for each year group is as follows: Monday: Year 2 Tuesday: Nursery & Year 5 Wednesday: Reception, Years 1 & 4 Thursday: Year 3

E-Safety – Half-Term Top Tips

It’s half-term. That might mean your children will have a bit more time on the computer. Have you set out clear boundaries about how long they can spend, what sites they can visit and what to do if something unpleasant happens? Revisit the SMART rules with them – Safe, Meeting, Accept, Reliable and Tell. Focus on the rules that are appropriate to them – with younger children it might be more about being Safe (with personal information) and not Accepting messages from strangers and with older children about Meeting people they don’t know in the real world. Visit the Kidsmart website for more ideas and information - http://www.kidsmart.org.uk/beingsmart/ . If there are any areas of e-Safety you want to know more about, please feel free to discuss it with Mr Braune, your child’s teacher or one of the school’s leaders.
