a.m. on Council Restructuring

Special Congregational

Meeting –

Sunday, November 22 at

9:30am

The Trinity Church Council on September 9 voted to recommend that members of Trinity approve changes to our church constitution and bylaws that will reduce the Council to nine people: President, Past President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, three at-large members, and the Pastor. Our Transition Task Force determined

that “our church council is excessively large.” Trinity’s Church Council presently consists of five officers, six Trustees, nine Deacons, and three staff members for a total of 23 people. This is more than double the size of most ELCA church councils. A detailed report of the proposed Constitution and Bylaw changes is available in the Church office. A majority vote on November 22 and a 2/3 vote at our January Annual Meeting are required to finalize the changes.

An article in the October issue of The Lutheran lists five things that can happen when a new pastor arrives:

1. New people show up 2. Some people will leave 3. Worship will change 4. New life will spring forth 5. We and the new pastor,

with God’s help, will learn to love each other.

You participated in several surveys centered on what you hope for in a new pastor. The Task Force has turned over the results of the surveys to the Call Committee. The Call Committee is completing the site profile which

entailed a great amount of time, thought and work, and more than a little prayer. When the Synod receives the profile, they will provide names of candidates. Then the really exciting work begins. The congregation is invited to bring names of possible pastoral

candidates whom they would

highly recommend. Please leave the name(s) in the church office. Thank you for keeping this important phase of Trinity’s life in your prayers! Daylight Savings Time ENDS on Nov. 1st. Remember to ‘fall back’.

October 2015

Trinity Lutheran Church Council met on October 13, 2015. Council read Chapter one of Twelve Keys to an Effective Church, entitled “One Mission Outreach”. People are drawn to community not to committees.

Pastor Paul provided a report he prepared on twelve ELCA Churches in Faribault County and average worship attendance. Balance in general checking as of Sept 31 was $-1938.77. The line of credit balance is $30,750.

Council discussed Trinity’s top three mission priorities -- to be included in Mission Profile being completed by the Call Committee. There are mission projects the church could focus on, i.e. the local food shelf, Habitat for Humanity and God’s Work. Our Hands. Upcoming forum on Nov 8 will be geared towards the restructuring proposal for the church council. Congregational meeting to vote on Council reduction will be November 22. Budget committee will have first draft of 2016 budget ready for the November Council meeting. Trustees are working on: parking lot plans, sanctuary lighting upgrade to LED, estimate to replace boilers and air conditioning units. Pastor Paul thanked those who attended the Council and Call Committee Retreat on October 10th at Prairie River Camp and felt it was a productive meeting.

SNOW REMOVAL AT

TRINITY

We are looking for someone who can remove snow from

the sidewalks and north side (alley) parking area. Please contact Ryan Northwick, Trustee, 525-2108, if you have the time and/or equipment for this very important ministry at Trinity.

THANK YOU FOR THE SCHOOL

KITS!

A number of church basement ladies organized, sewed, and packed the school kits. We were able to send 28 kits in October due to the great need. The remaining 11 will be sent in May when those bags are sewn, and the next Lutheran World Relief ingathering takes place. Thank you for your contributions. We will complete and send a total of 39 school kits!

Bible Quiz

Of what ethnicity was the one leper out of 10 healed who returned to thank Jesus? A. Syrophoenician B. Samaritan C. Syrian D. Judean Answer: B (See Luke 17:16.)

Thanks for Giving

You are probably looking at the title of my article thinking “I think she

meant “Thanksgiving.” Actually, I meant to write “Thanks for Giving.” As I

started writing my article I was reflecting on the upcoming holiday and I started

to think about all the things we have to give thanks for….the list could go on and

on. But then I started to go even a little deeper than that. I think there are times

that I tend to neglect truly giving thanks for things in my life, maybe even take

them for granted. Recently it was on my heart to convey my gratitude to

someone. I went to their house and barley sat down before the tears streamed

down my face and I said “do you realize how grateful I am for you?” This person

replied “yes, I think I do” and I replied…. “No, I don’t think you do, I don’t think

you realize the depth of my appreciation.” It felt good to be able to covey to her

how I felt, and I left feeling good that she now knows.

Do you ever have times like that? Times when you are so overcome with

gratitude but maybe don’t convey it in the way you want to. Sometimes it’s hard

to find the right words. I had thanked her but I felt like it wasn’t enough. I

sometimes feel like that with the Lord. Not that I don’t thank Him, but it’s hard

for me to even put it in to words sometimes because thank you seems so

inadequate for all He has done and continues to do.

My son was in a motorcycle accident on Oct. 18th and was airlifted to Rochester

where he spent two days. He has a concussion, some road rash and a very sore

shoulder but all things considered he was very fortunate it wasn’t worse. As it

turns out he had a seizure before he lost control of his bike (and one more big one

in flight) so he has now been diagnosed with epilepsy. Another bump in the road

for us but we can gratefully pray THANKS for GIVING us the opportunity to

continue on this journey with him. We know we do not travel alone. God spared

his life not once but twice. Where do I even begin to start with my thanks and

praise? I guess it’s a challenge I will accept the opportunity to be able to do.

Is there someone you have been meaning to thank? Consider taking the time to

make someone’s day by letting them know they are appreciated.

And as long as we are on the topic… Thank you! All of you for your support of

Children, Youth and Family Ministry at Trinity! Kimberly Jacobson
