    Guide 5

  • flraceplace.com 6 November/December

The Brooks Adrenaline, Asics 2160, Nike Structure and the Saucony Guide are all going through updates and they will be out sometime in November. I have said many times: Dont get married to your shoes because what you love about your shoe could change! Some of the updates on these shoes are quite dramatic, so you will have to run in them to make sure they still work for you.

This years best selling running shoe in specialty stores has been the Brooks Adrenaline 11. Many of you loved the Adrenaline 11 and with the changes in model 12, you should still find the new Adrenaline your favorite shoe. The mesh is more breathable; the heel

should wear a little better, and the crash pad in the rear of the shoe works better. The overall fit should be the same and the performance you loved is still there. Price of the Adrenaline 12 is going to $110.

The shoe that the Adrenaline knocked out of first place was the Asics 2160. This model has always been a great shoe with a very strong following. If this is your shoe, expect a little change. The weight is going from 11.7 oz to 11.4 oz, (all weights given are for a mens size 9.5) so you probably wont notice the difference, but you might notice that the eyelet configuration is different and that will change the fit. The 2170 is still a great performance shoe and it should be a very close version of the 2160. Price of the 2170 will be $110.

Nikes Structure 15 has no major changes and should fit, feel and perform just like the model 14. Nike is still using airbag and fly wire technology in these shoes so they should continue to be great running shoes. The price of the Structure 15 is at $100.

Saucony Guide is going through the biggest changes of any of these shoes. The weight is going from 11.6 oz to 10.2 oz which is a feature you will feel, and the Guide 5 will go to an 8mm off set. This means that the heel of the shoe will drop dramatically versus the Guide 4 version. Saucony is taking a major risk with reducing the weight and height of their best selling stability shoe but I think most runners will like the changes. The price of the Guide 5 will be $100.

Some brand new shoes have been introduced by these companies and they deserve to be considered. Brooks has the new Pure shoes, Asics has the 33 series, Nike has the Free series and Saucony has the Kinvara/Mirage models. All of these new shoes are light weight and bio-efficient or minimalist in their performance. These companies have set the standards for years on quality and performance and with these new models they can offer you just about every option you are looking for in a running shoe.
