Champion Surf Life Savers
On Friday 7th November four boys represented Bellingen High School at the
North Coast Combined High Schools Surf Life Saving Championships held in Byron
Bay. Murky, cold water was to greet Max Shaw, Fred Mitchell, Jonah Mitchell
and Jedd Mitchell. The boys contested
in the beach sprints, flags, swim, board
and ironman events.
There was silence in the crowd when
Bellingen High School was announced
winner of the Boys Teams score.
Officials could not believe that 4 boys
from Bellingen could beat 19 boys from
Byron Bay in their own backyard.
Great competitiveness and
sportsmanship was displayed by all 4
boys.
Jedd Mitchell (pictured) took out the
U/16 North Coast Surf Life Saving
Champion.
On Sunday, 9th November all 4 boys were at it again this time at Woolgoolga
Beach. After the Carnival, Max, Fred, Jonah and Jedd were selected in the
North Coast Branch Representative Team to contest the NSW Interbranch
Championships at Newcastle - another great performance by Bellingen High
School students.

From the Principal
On Wednesday we had the pleasure of hosting Years 7 and 8 Chrysalis students who are enrolling in our school in 2015. The visiting students had an opportunity to shadow one of our students for the day to experience a day in the life of a Bellingen High School student. Parents were given a tour of our great facilities and had the opportunity to ask a range of questions to find out as much as they could about how our school works, and how we can work together to ensure their kids have a positive experience at our school. I am
looking forward to seeing them integrate and flourish as many of our Chrysalis kids have done in the past.
This is a time of school planning for the next three years with many opportunities for the community, parents, students and staff to have input about what is great about our school, and what improvements we may be able to work on. On Monday night we had over twenty parents attend a parent planning session where there were some great conversations and ideas for the future. Can I take this opportunity to encourage you to complete the following surveys that are relevant to you. This is another way for us to gather some detailed information that will be used to direct our strategies into the future.

From the Science Faculty Down at the Ag Plot!
G’day from the Ag plot. It’s been very dry for the last few weeks; the few drops of rain we have had have been sucked up by thirsty ground and haven’t really reached the waterways. It’s so dry in the school paddocks that the old road is starting to appear next to Crown Street.
The Dorrigo Show is rapidly approaching and Bellingen High students are keen to compete. If you haven’t anything organised for Saturday 22nd November why not take a lovely drive up to Dorrigo and come to the Show for the day to support our local community…
The school has some livestock for sale see the advert in this Newsletter. If you are interested please contact Mrs Lockman our Ag Assistant for more information.

Year 10 Shirts Year 9 are well organised with their shirt for next year, having chosen a design for the back and the style of shirt. Students have spent the last week confirming names and figuring out what size they need. Hopefully there won’t be too many growth spurts over the holidays! Parents and carers should have received a note about payments and due dates, but the key figures are outlined below. Total Cost: $40.50 Deposit: $20.00 due Friday 21st November Remainder to be paid by Friday 5th December. Should you wish to purchase more than one shirt, a deposit needs to be made for each. Once the full amount has been paid, the shirts will be ordered. This will guarantee delivery in time for Day 1 2015! I’m looking forward to seeing a very snazzy Year 10 group next year.

Sport News Netball girls head to Grafton
The girls in the U14’s Netball team travelled to Grafton last Tuesday to compete
in the Mid North Coast U15’s Knockout Gala Day.
The girls played 3 full games and a half game and came up against some very
experienced teams, most who have played on the weekends and have represented
at State level.
From game one we knew it was going to be tough but that didn’t stop them. The
improvement from game one to the very last game was incredible, each girl
playing a vital role in the team.
Game one saw our team go down against a much bigger and very experienced
Grafton High team. This game meant we are now out of the State Knockout but
thanks to the great organisation of South Grafton we were able to play another
2½ games giving the girls much needed playing time and good knowledge of what
we will be up against next year.
We might not have won a game but the girls came off smiling. They should all be
very proud of how they played and improved on the day especially for a team who
have never played together before.
A big thank you to our
fantastic umpire and all the
parents who helped with
transport on the day.

Bellingen High School true Champions!
Bellingen High had 4 Futsal teams representing at the Senior Australian Futsal
Championships held at Oxley, near Brisbane, over three days from 7th to 9th
November. The Championships brings teams together from Cairns in the north to
Sydney and Melbourne in the south. With four teams representing their school,
Bellingen High had the largest amount of teams at the Championships. The teams
were playing from 8am through to 8pm over the three days, which in itself is a
big challenge.
19 Years Girls
The 19’s girls took on local team Robina State High in the first game where they
cleared away the nerves and the cobwebs to dominate scoring 8 goals to 5.
Game 2 against Marsden
State High School gave a
dominant display of their
passing game. At the end of
the first half the score was
already 6-0. This allowed
the girls to trial some new
plays and save some energy.
Final score was 8-1.
Day 2 the heat increased and
the girls took on St Peter
Clavier in a hard fought
tussle. Another tidy display resulted in a 3-1 victory. Later in the day the girls
had to play the girls from the Football Academy from Harristown State High.
This was a cracker of a game with the girls coming away with a well-deserved 7-
5 win.
With one preliminary game to go the girls were already assured 1st place so the
game against Calvary made little difference. Calvary played well to draw with
the girls 7-7. This put the girls into the semi-final against 4th placed Robina
with Harristown and St Peter Clavier to fight out 2nd vs 3rd. Robina were never
really in the game as Bellingen dominated possession and booked a place in the
grand final with a 5-2 victory.
The Grand Final against Harristown was a hard fought game with the Bellingen
girls playing their passing game and Harristown just slamming any loose balls
towards the goal. Sam Barker finished two Jess Marks passes, while Jess
finished one. Half time score was 3-2 and it was anyone’s game. The girls went
on in the second half with renewed determination despite some injuries and
tiredness. They kept Harristown at bay while displaying their skilled passing
game to set up opportunities to score. Jess Marks scored two more and Simone
Fuller-Byrne one to make the final score 6-3.
The support for the girls was amazing with parents and students all cheering the
girls on. This was truly a well-deserved win as this team has gone through all
three stages of the competition undefeated. It was particularly nice for the
girls that last year were beaten in the grand final of the 16’s competition. It
was also a wonderful way for two of the players to finish their school life -
Jemara Imrie and Hannah Taylor have both just completed their HSC and they
will be greatly missed.
Jess Marks wins the golden boot award with 21 goals for the tournament, while
Sam Barker was named in the All Stars Team. At this point it must be said that
the reason this team was so successful is because they play as a team and all
contribute to the success of the team in different ways. Gita Pastro was our
amazing goal keeper who never took a step backward and owned her area.
Hannah Taylor is a solid defender whose reading of the play allows her to set up
many attacking plays from the back as well as making overlapping runs which
scored her 4 goals. Amelia Brewin, who had to move up from the 16’s to give the
19’s a full squad, whose passing game set up many opportunities and Alex
Jandzio-Fry who always added energy on the court with her never-say-die
attitude. Simone Fuller-Byrne whose quick strike of the ball amazed everyone
and netted her 7 goals. Jess Marks is a truly talented play-maker who can
change the fortunes of a game and her partner in crime Sam Barker whose
control of the ball enables her to dominate the court. Finally Captain
Courageous, Jemara Imrie, who leads by example. There is no better mover off
the ball than Jemara who draws defenders repeatedly to make gaps and ensures
everyone is doing their job on the court.
16 Years Girls
The 16 years girls had a setback prior to leaving Bellingen with goalkeeper, Bess
Condran, dislocating her knee. This meant young Jackie Kambere (only 13) had
to step up to the position. Due to another withdrawal the team ended up with 4
girls 14 years or younger. They had started their campaign early Friday morning
against the highly favoured Assisi College. It took a while for the girls to adjust
to the conditions but pressured the opposition scoring 4 goals. Unfortunately this
was not quite enough and the girls went down by the smallest of margins 5-4.
The second game against Bishop Druitt College was a see-sawing game that
displayed the importance of finishing. It seems that ball just didn’t want to find
the net. Despite being the dominant attacking team the girls lost 3-2 in the
closest of finishes.
The third and final game for the day was against Chancellor College. The girls
were down 3-1 at half time but really rallied in the second half to pressure the
opposition to see us even the score to 3-3. Unfortunately history was to repeat
itself and against the run of play Chancellor scored in the dying minutes -
another loss by one goal 4-3.
At the end of the first day the girls had three losses all by only one goal. This
was to make the rest of their campaign very difficult.
Day 2 and the girls
had to play
Clontarf Beach
High first getting
their first win 3-1,
followed by a draw
with St Andrews
1-1. The final
game of the day
was against
Harristown (the
eventual winners}
and proved difficult
with the girls going
down 5-0. Their
final game on day 3 was against Mercy College. Finally the girls seemed to get
everything together and show what they were capable of doing. They scored a
massive 8 goals to 2. This finished them in 5th position just out of the semis,
however if just one of those early games was a draw they would have been in the
semis. It just show how important every goal is. This was a very young team
who learnt a lot and should be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
