FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear Parents and Caregivers, I hope that you all fared well during the weather event over the weekend. Our school sustained water damage to three rooms and a great deal of mud everywhere! A huge thankyou to Anthony our General Assistant and June and Dawn our cleaners for their work in having the concrete areas cleaned and ready for use by lunchtime. Last week stages 2 and 3 participated in a ‘speak off’ for Public Speaking. The poise and maturity of the speakers was outstanding as were their speeches. These were persuasive, passionate and well researched. All participants should be very proud of their efforts. A special thanks to Mr Steven Glyde and Mrs Helen Chapman who were guest judges along with Ms Everson. Teachers are currently finalising the students’ semester one reports. Spare envelopes for Student photos and Family photo envelopes are available from the office.

GIRLS AND BOYS SOCCER

Missing from the girls team photo Demeka Kilpatrick and Jamika McAulay-Earnest Well done to the girls and boys soccer team for their great participation in the Soccer PSSA Knock Out Competition. Both teams versed Boambee Public school last Friday. The girls lost 5-0 and the boys lost 4-0. I would like to take this opportunity to express how proud I am of both teams and the great sportsmanship they displayed. All players worked as a team and supported one another. They also showed real determination and resilience, having made a great come back in the second half. They held off two strong Boambee teams, allowing only one goal in the second half. Congratulations on a great effort Bellingen. Miss Cowan Organising Teacher

BELLINGEN PUBLIC SCHOOL P AND C PIE DRIVE

Thanks to the support of Urunga Country Oven Bakery, the P&C are once again running a Pie Drive this year, offering pies (and lamingtons) for very reasonable prices. Not only do you

get the opportunity to have a family sized pie for dinner, but the school gets to keep a percentage of the cost of the pies sold. Both pies and lamingtons freeze beautifully, and all funds raised will go towards purchasing items off the school wish list (please feel free to contribute ideas to this wish list at any time in the suggestion box in the office). All you have to do is decide which pie or pies you would like to buy and then fill in the order form, which will be sent home this week. This can be photocopied for grandparents, friends and neighbours. All order forms and the correct money (cash or cheques payable to Bellingen Public School P&C) need to be returned to the school by Wednesday 22nd June, 2016. We will then organise all orders so that they can be collected on Wednesday 29th June between 3.00pm and 5.30pm from the canteen at the school. For all further information please contact Elektra Macdonald on 0412336090 or [email protected]. We look forward to receiving your orders! Thank you for your support!

BUS PASSES – NOW APPLY ONLINE!

From 12 May 2016, applications for school travel passes in rural and regional NSW will need to be completed online instead of using paper forms. This change makes it easier to apply, as you only need to complete one form that covers all situations, including journeys that involve multiple transport operators or modes of transport. It’s also easier for schools and bus operators, as Transport for NSW will now handle the applications. This change only affects the application process; no changes to any public transport services are planned. Brochures are available from the office.
