Choir excursion to Sydney! Our school Choir had a fantastic excursion
to Sydney to participate in the Arts Unit Program “In Concert”. The repertoire included Stevie Wonder arrangements by the “Idea of North” a leading a cappella ensemble from Sydney who have performed at major jazz festivals. Other repertoire highlighted Australian composer Ben van Tienen and Handel‘s “Zadok the Priest” which lifted the roof off the Sydney Town Hall. Students had a great time being a part of this annual event. The choir would love more tenors and basses!! Rehearsals are Wednesday mornings commencing at 8.00am.
“Horns on Helium” perform at Bellingen Show Bellingen High
students who make up the jazz outfit “Horns on Helium” performed at the Bellingen Agricultural Show. Blaise Borrer, Oscar Eager, Josh Thompson and Max Littlemore performed original jazz/Latin/funk compositions written by both Blaise and Oscar. These compositions are dynamic and fresh incorporating the originality of these young composers.
Australian Chamber Orchestra Workshop The Bellingen High
String Ensemble participated in a workshop held by the Australian Chamber Orchestra in Bellingen at the Memorial Hall. This is in conjunction with their upcoming performance at the Sydney Opera House on Thursday 7th August. If you have had the pleasure of passing by the music rooms during rehearsals, our String Ensemble are absolutely exceptional.
Youth Orchestra to perform with Jane Rutter! The Bellingen
Youth Orchestra will also be performing with Australian flautist Jane Rutter on Saturday 28th June at the Bellingen Memorial Hall. Many Bellingen students make up this orchestra along with other students from the Coffs Coast. The orchestra have been rehearsing very hard for this exciting event under the wonderful direction of Ms Annie Phelan.
Bellingen High School Musical Finally our musical “My Fair Lady” is
in full rehearsal mode. It is gearing up to be a great show. Our cast are exceptional and working very hard amongst all other school commitments. Some sneak previews of rehearsals have already highlighted engaging character roles. Communication amongst actors and rehearsal director, Taylor Pearce have proven to be very productive, setting the tone for cast collaboration - all members are enjoying this wonderful creative positive environment. Performances are scheduled for June 12th through to the 14th …..... Not to be missed!!

From the P&C - CAN YOU HELP?
As part of our support for the upcoming school musical the Bellingen High School P&C will be serving refreshments at the
Canteen and running a raffle over the three performance nights.
School musicals are a fantastic way of building and nurturing the
whole school community. This year’s musical My Fair Lady is
sounding and looking fantastic. The cast and musicians have been
working overtime to create a great show. Of course all the behind
the scenes work on costumes, sets, lighting and props is now
starting to come together as well. Once again Bellingen High’s
creative talent is shining through! Let’s get together to make this a
great whole school event!
If you feel you can support by offering a prize for the raffle or
helping out on the canteen roster please let us know – we need
another couple of helpers.
Performance Evenings are the 12th, 13th and 14th June.
Please contact our P&C President David Neville at email [email protected]
Tickets are available at the door! We look forward to seeing you
there!
From the Principal
It’s been another busy couple of weeks. Thanks to all the organising teachers, participating students and spectators for their efforts at last week’s Athletics Carnival. I was very pleased with the student’s attendance and participation. Some records were broken including a record number of teachers who entered in the relay competition. With eleven staff making up two teams of five, I as Captain stood down to ensure everyone got a run. We achieved a 3rd and 7th placing and at our post run meeting we decided to concentrate on batten changes in preparation for next year’s event.
Congratulations to Nick Hiller recipient of the P&C Teacher of the Month Award. Nick has an extensive Agricultural facility to manage together with teaching a range of Agriculture subjects. Many of our students enjoy the opportunity participating in the Agricultural Shows in the district - especially more recently the number of very early starts with his cattle team. Parents, students and his colleagues are very appreciative of the effort he puts in.
The school musical, My Fair Lady commences next week with a number of matinee and evening performances. There are many students involved who have invested many hours rehearsing and helping with stage props and costumes. The staff involved are very excited about the quality of the show and are looking forward to the students having performances with full houses. It would be great if you could bring your family along to one of these events, have a great night’s entertainment, support the cast and crew and check out the outstanding abilities of our students. Spread the word and I will see you there.
Our annual Quirindi visit is coming up in Week 9, the last week of this term. It’s a great school tradition that I support and encourage as many students as possible to participate in. This year we are travelling to Quirindi and I thought I should go along to check out how it works and to support our teams. We leave on Tuesday 24th and return Thursday 26th June. At school during this time there will be a requirement to combine some classes and for teachers to cover for their colleagues. I have asked for as normal a program as possible to continue at school during this time with meaningful activities provided. I hope you encourage your child to go to Quirindi or school during this time.
Recently Joel Cooper represented North Coast in rugby union at the Combined High Schools State Championships in Newcastle. Terry Simpson the North Coast convenor wrote to me to say: “I have nothing but the highest praise for Joel in the manner that he conducted himself over the four days of the carnival. Joel is a credit to Bellingen High School by showing exemplary behaviour, great sportsmanship and a high level of skill.” I can only add well done Joel.

Sport News Lawn Bowls
The Opens Lawn Bowls Triples team made it to
the 4th round of the State Knock-out before
being defeated in a close game against Wollumbin
High School. The Bellingen team was up by 1
bowl but ended up losing 2 bowls in the very last
end. Our team had a few convincing wins on
home turf before having to play away against
Wollumbin High.
All three bowlers played well in all matches and
should be very proud of their achievements.

Senior Futsal
Bellingen High wins all divisions!
After the Junior Futsal teams won all their divisions in the area Futsal titles it was
time for the senior teams to see if they could match the feat.
On Thursday, 22nd May the 16’s and 19’s girls travelled to Port Macquarie and the
16’s and 19’s boys travelled to Coffs Harbour to take on the teams from our area.
The teams weren’t to disappoint with the 16’s and 19’s girls facing Westport,
Camden Haven and Wauchope. All the games were hard however both teams
managed to defeat their opposition and were Champions on the day.
The boys 16’s and 19’s teams finished on top of their pools which put them in the
final against Bishop Druitt College in both cases. The 16’s thrashed BDC 12-0 and
the 19’s beat BDC 8-0.
This means of the 7 teams entered in the area Futsal Titles, Bellingen High School
has won 7 out of 7 divisions. These teams are now looking forward to the Regional
Finals.
