Remembering Those Who Sacrificed Their Lives For Freedom! In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. John McCrae - May 1915 Remembrance Day Assembly Remembrance Day Assembly will be held on November 9th at 10:30 a.m. Please join us to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
The Student Census launches this November The Peel District School Board is committed to providing the very best learning environments so that all students can achieve personal excellence. In order to do this, the Peel board will launch its first Student Census this November. The census findings will help the board and our schools to:
better understand student populations and school communities
identify and eliminate barriers to student success, inclusion and well-being
establish effective programs and reallocate resources to where they are needed most
Who will participate? Students in grades 4 to 12 will be invited to complete the Student Census in class during Nov. 19 to 30, 2018. The questionnaire will take approximately one class period to complete, and will include questions that ask students about themselves and their experiences in and outside of school. Parents/guardians of students in kindergarten to grade 3 will receive the questionnaire to fill out on behalf of their child(ren). Questionnaires will be sent home in early November with your child’s progress report. Is participation mandatory? We want to capture the voices of all students, the more Student Census responses we receive, the more effective the data will be to help inform and improve programming and instruction. That being said, the Student Census is voluntary. If you do not want your child to participate, please return the slip on the bottom of the consent form that went home in October. How will responses be kept confidential and private? The Student Census is confidential, but not anonymous. All collected responses will be stored in a secure, confidential database and will only be accessed by authorized Peel board research staff to identify and summarize trends among Peel students. For more information, including translated questionnaires and resources, visit www.peelschools.org/studentcensus
The Scholastic Book Fair returns to the Castlemore Library from November 12 to 16. Save up your allowance and visit the Book Fair for your chance to purchase a brand new book. We will also have new posters, bookmarks and school supplies for you to purchase. Profits collected from the Book Fair help to support the Library and other student programs at our school. Our goal is to sell 500 books! The Book Fair will also be open in the Library during our student-led conferences on the evening of November 15 and during the morning of the PA Day on November 16. See you there!

The Castlemore Student Council would like to thank all of the students for helping to make the Halloween Dance a huge success! We had an amazing time showing off our dance moves in our fun costumes. Thank you to parents for purchasing snacks for the dance. Together we raised enough money to make a donation to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. Please check out the fundthefight.ca website to see
how you and your family can do more to help out Sick Kids Hospital.

Student Led Conferences
(November 15 & 16) What is a student led conference?
A student led conference is a time for you to come and listen to your child
share their learning. The conference will be facilitated by the teacher, but led
by the student. In a student led conference, the student moves from being a
non-participant or passive observer to leader of the conference. This also
allows families to become more actively engaged in discussions with their
child, along with the teacher.
What do you need to bring?
YOU
Your child
A positive and encouraging attitude
An open mind
Is Extended French or French Immersion right for my child?
If your child will be starting grade 7 or grade 1 in September 2019, one of the important choices you will make is whether you want to apply for the Extended French (EF) or the French Immersion (FI) program. What is the program like? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the program?
One way to help answer these questions is to attend the information meeting on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the EF or FI school your child would attend. Please contact the following schools for more Information:

Great job 5JM!
This year’s Winter Concert will be held on
