Historical pictures and testimonies will be on display

in the fellowship area.

They look to be memorable days so be sure to be there to celebrate and give thanks and glorify

our loving God!

Remember! November is the month of Thanksgiving when we give our thanks to God for the

blessings we have and to be kind to others who are in need.

God spoke to His people through the prophet Isaiah:

“I want you to share your food with the hungry and to welcome poor wanderers into your

homes. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your

help. If you do these things, your salvation will come like the dawn. Yes, your healing will

come quickly. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the LORD will protect

you from behind. Then when you call, the LORD will answer. ‘Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly

reply.” (Isaiah 58:7-9)

Paul wrote to Timothy that all God’s people should be rich in good deeds and be generous and

willing to share. Paul says that in this way we lay up treasures for ourselves as a foundation for

the life to come. Praise the Lord and thank you for the many ways that you give to others.

I want you to save the following scripture. Put it on your mirror, on the dashboard of your car,

on the cookie jar, on your phone, or on the TV remote! Put it somewhere that you will see it

every day. For the months of November and December, I ask you to read aloud every day, with

a grateful heart, Psalm 118, verses 28-29:

You are my God, and I will give you thanks;

You are my God, and I will exalt you.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,

his love endures forever. (Psalm 118: 28-29)

On Thanksgiving Sunday, November 18, we give our thanks to God. I invite all of you to write a

“thank you” note to God and bring it with you to that service. You will also can give voice to

the thanksgiving in your heart for God’s grace in your life. Join us for a morning worship and

thanksgiving.

Blessing to all of you, as you strive to be more like Christ,

Have great holidays!

Your Pastor Soon Sun

The Joys of Worship Opportunities in November:

Nov. 4, 2018 at 9:30 am – 180th Church Anniversary & All Saint Sunday

To help us mark this milestone of God's goodness towards us, our Elgin District Superintendent,

Rev. Darneather Murph-Heath, from the United Methodist Church, will be

preaching. During our worship there will be a special time of remembering our

loved ones who have passed away since last November. Family and friends are

invited for this memorial service and to bring a picture to church or email us at

[email protected] by November 1.

Sunday, Nov. 11, Commitment Sunday

Bring your Pledge Card and 2019 Talents and Skills

Each year at this time we stop to reflect on the stewardship we bring to our relationship with

God. Some think of stewardship as the giving of our financial resources,

but stewardship goes much deeper. Stewardship is a way of life, a way of

being Godly. We are stewards because GIVING ENRICHES OUR

RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. “Remember this: Whoever sows

sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also

reap generously. Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to

give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

(2 Corinthians 9:6-7)

Sunday, Nov. 18th, Thanksgiving Music Sunday

Bible Readings: Deuteronomy 26:1-11, Psalm 100, Philippians 4:4-9

On this Sunday we will make joyful noises in our worship service. God

has blessed us and given us many things in our lives. This Sunday will

be a good day and time for us to give our God thanks and praise! Let

your music gifts be used for praising God! Those who love to sing, let

us get together for this Sunday! Pastor Fred will do the children’s

sermon.

FALL STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN

We will be engaged in an exciting stewardship campaign, to hear testimonies and inspirational

sermons that I believe can help us to renew and revitalize our lives to God as congregation. Our

theme for our stewardship drive this year is “This Is the Day!” The theme Scripture is from 2

Corinthians 9:8, “And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by

always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.”

FOCW - Memories Book “180”

The stories for our memory book have been collected. I’m sure there are

a lot more stories to be told and I hope that you will share them with one

another - even if they didn’t get into our book. Our world is changing so

quickly. We need to be reminded of how things were done in the past.

The book is scheduled to be printed during October and should be

available in time for our November “180” celebrations. Quantities are limited so get yours early.

Any profit from the books will go to the local Food Pantry.

Thank-you!!!

Many thanks to all for helping celebrate a wonderful 180th Church Anniversary Service and a

celebration dinner on Saturday evening. Our DS Rev. Darneather Murph-Heath gave a

wonderful sermon. We were so happy to see two former pastors at the Saturday dinner. We were

so grateful to have all of them here for the 180th Church Anniversary.

UNICEF

We will be kicking off our annual UNICEF drive Sunday, October 7, with a ‘Trick or Treat’ box

distribution. Our goal of raising $400 to contribute to UNICEF’s purpose of reducing child

mortality all over the world by working to reach the most vulnerable children, everywhere, is a

noble one. UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their

rights, and to help them fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence.

Throughout the month of October, you are asked to drop your extra change into your container

every day. The boxes will be collected the last week of October and the first week of November.

See Lisa Knight for your carton pick up and drop off.

SUPER SENIORS LUNCHEON –

Our next Super Senior Luncheon will be on November

7 at 11:30. We will be going to the Cheesecake Factory

in Lincolnshire. Please see Lou Ann for further details.

CRAFT NIGHT

Friday, November 9 at 6pm

All women are invited to make crafts for the Christmas Bazaar.

Please bring sharp scissors with you. There will be projects and instructions.

There is a sign-up sheet at the church. Talk to Candee Nustra with any

questions.

DECEMBER 21st – BLUE CHRISTMAS OR LONGEST NIGHT SERVICE AT 6 PM

For some of us, the holidays can also be a time of struggling with illness or sadness or

brokenness. We know some of us are facing a life-threatening illness, the death of a loved one,

a divorce, job-loss, or a separation. Some single persons will feel especially alone during this

time when families are so emphasized. For this reason, we will be having a service to remember

the challenging parts of the Christmas holidays. God is present with us in our illness, sadness

and grief as well as in our joy and celebration, and we expect the Holy Spirit to move in powerful

ways at this service! Please join us for this special service. Please extend the invitation to people

in the area who you know are going through rough

times. There will be a fellowship time with coffee

and cookies in the fellowship hall.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR- SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1

Christmas Bazaar (Dec. 1 from 9:30am to 2pm)

By now you have “saved the date” and are thinking of how you can help with the Bazaar. Here

are some ideas. Come to our FOCW meeting Monday Nov. 26 at 7pm for our prep night. Bake

lots of cookies for the Cookie Walk (bring the morning of the bazaar in cookie tins or plastic

containers). Sign up on the volunteer sheet to work the day of the Bazaar. Make crafts on your

own and bring ready to sell that morning or give to Candee Nustra earlier in the week. Go

through your gently used accessories (scarves, jewelry, etc.) and give them to Lou Ann Kozderka

immediately, so they can be priced for the Glamorama Boutique. Look through your Christmas

decorations and treasures for things to donate to “Grandma’s Attic”. Bake special treats or make

candy for our Baked Goods section.

This is a lot of information to think about, but please remember the funds made are donated to

missions in and outside the walls of our church, so please do what you can. Any questions?

Please contact Candee Nustra ( [email protected] or 847-526-3873.

Children & Family Ministry

"For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock." (Psalm 27:5, NIV) Have you ever watched children play hide and seek? They look for the best place to hide in the house or yard and wait quietly for their friend to try and find them. It’s a fun game for kids, but even as adults, we need a good place to hide from time to time. Sometimes we need a place of refuge, we need a place of safety, and we need a place to rest when we feel overwhelmed by the circumstances of life—a place where the enemy of our soul can never find us. The good news is that God has the perfect hiding place for you! You don’t have to hide in your job. You don’t have to hide in relationships. You don’t have to hide in food or addictions because God Himself promises to hide you! He freely offers you shelter from the storms of life any time you call upon His name. Remember, there’s only one place the enemy cannot find you. There’s only one place where opposition cannot steal from you. There’s only one true place of safety and rest for your soul, and that is in the arms of Jesus. Know that He loves you, and He is ready to receive you when you call upon His name! Father, today I come humbly before You giving You all that I am. Thank You for hiding me in Your shelter and keeping me safe from the storms of life. My soul finds rest in You as I seek You and praise Your holy name in Jesus’ name. Amen Pastor Crystal Calhoun Johnson

Congratulations to our youth department for leading Worship on the 5th Sunday

of September. The youth did a wonderful job uplifting the name of Jesus Christ.

Our Youth Day worship program was held on Sunday, September 30th during

morning worship service. Our 2018-2019 theme is “We are Fearfully and

Wonderfully Made” with scriptural reference of Psalms 139:14 (NIV) which reads,

I praise you because I am fearfully and

wonderfully made; your works are

wonderful, I know that full well.

Our High School and Youth Ministry did a wonderful job. Hats

off to our youth speaker Heidi Lee who spoke on the topic “Be

Kind to Each Other” her supporting scripture was Galatians

5:22-23 and Colossians 3:12-13. Heidi, expressed to the

congregation the importance of about being sensitive,

supportive, sympathetic, straightforward and spontaneous.

She also, invited the congregation to practice, one of the fruits

of the spirit in the upcoming week.
