Scripture Reflection Our Lord Jesus Christ

November 22, 2015

As the Lord told Pilate, "my kingdom does not belong to this world." His kingdom is not established in a particular place or even in a particular time. Rather, the realm of the King of the universe encompasses all the other kingdoms of the world. And everyone is invited to be the privileged subject of this King. The key to entering this kingdom, as Jesus says, is to listen to his voice. Heeding the voice of Jesus enables us to belong to this kingdom that is founded upon truth. Jesus defines his authority in these terms: "For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth." As Christians, we profess to follow the King of kings. Therefore, as members of his royal realm, we too should be about the business of testifying to the truth: that Jesus is in fact God-made-man and that, through his death and resurrection, he has saved us from our sins. This Gospel message, both sim-ple and profound, is a truth that never grows old. Let us boldly profess the truth of the Gospel as we invite all those we encounter to join in the joy of the kingdom of Jesus.

A few words on our recent Parish Pilgrimage to the Holy Land. We had 27 participants. Ten from Ames, ten from

St. Patrick Parish and seven people from northern Iowa. Words cannot describe how it feels to be in the Land where Jesus walked and talked. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that going to the Holy Land

could be such an inspirational and informative experience. If you ever get the chance to go the Holy Land don’t pass it up. Thank-You to all those people who kept us in their prayers throughout our nine day pilgrimage to the

Holy Land.

On another note, I hope you are telling all your friends that St. Patrick Parish is hosting Iowa’s own pianist, Jim McDonough. For years, Jim has given performances throughout Eastern Iowa. Here in Cedar Rapids, Jim regularly performed at the Paramount Theater during the Christmas Season. This year, through the help of various

parishioners, Jim McDonough’s only performances in Cedar Rapids will be at St. Patrick Parish. Friday Evening (December 4th) and Saturday Afternoon (December 5th). Buy your tickets at the Parish Center Monday

through Saturday.

We are also blessed here at St. Patrick Parish to have the one and only Catholic Gift and Book Store in Cedar Rapids. Check-out their Christmas merchandise. Merchandise is on display both in the official store and in an

adjacent room across the hall from the bookstore. I for one have been impressed with the nice job that Art and Kathi Grainger have done with “The Ark” store which will be celebrating their one year Anniversary this month.

Thanksgiving Day is on November 26th. As a Nation let be grateful for the many Blessings that God has poured-out on our Nation. Secondly, let us be grateful for the many Blessings that God has poured-out upon our families

and upon our individual lives over the course of the last year. The most important way to express our thanks to God is that of participating in Mass on the Thanksgiving Day. Mass here at St. Patrick Parish on Thanksgiving Day

is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. We are also hosting a Community Thanksgiving Dinner at 12:30 PM in the Parish Center. One should RSVP the Parish Office (362-7966) if you plan on attending.

On behalf of the Staff and myself we wish all of you a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Fr. Ivan Nienhaus
