Ways to get involved in your “home away from home”
If you live in Gibson or
Willis Halls, you’ll notice
that we do not have the
most up-to-date
technology in our lobbies
and social lounges, but if
you are interested in
contributing and making a
difference, listen up! RHA
is the residence hall
association and they meet
every two weeks in Willis’
1st floor lounge to discuss
what kinds of changes we
can make to campus, the
dining halls, and even our
residence halls! Right now
they are going to be
selling Marshall T-shirts to
8:3PM on the 3rd floor of Willis Hall. Kacie Sutton will be having “Relax and Let Your Worries Drift away…” on 11/11at 8:30PM on the 4th floor of Gibson Hall. On 11/14, there will be a free movie shown at the cinema (Carousel). Finally, what we’ve all been waiting
for….Thanksgiving Break! It will be from 11/20 until 11/27. Hall close at noon on the 20th and reopen at 9AM on the 27th.
raise money for residence

whatever they can think of
to improve the place we
live! The meetings are
open to all residents of
“Gillis” and is not a time
commitment for those who
are simply sitting in to

have to do is attend one
meeting to get your
creative juices flowing!
The meetings are typically
every other Tuesday

Americans feast on 535 million pounds of turkey on Thanksgiving.
According the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 45 million turkeys are cooked and eaten in the United States at Thanksgiving. That number represents one sixth of all the turkeys sold in the U.S. each year!
Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be our national bird.
Domesticated turkeys cannot fly, however wild turkeys can fly up to 55 miles per hour over short distances.
Only male (tom) turkeys gobble. Females make a clicking noise. The famous gobble is actually a seasonal mating call.
The heaviest turkey ever raised weighed in at 86 pounds – about the size of a German Shepherd!
A turkey under 16 weeks of age is called a fryer. A five to seven month old turkey is called a roaster.
The Turkey Trot, a ballroom dance in the 1900s, was named for the short, jerky steps of the turkey. It became popular mainly because it was denounced by the Vatican as "suggestive."
Turkeys are known to spend the night in trees! (Maybe to escape the Thanksgiving table?)
Turkeys can drown if they look up when it's raining!
The Gillis RHA is currently selling t-shirts as a
fundraising program, which can be ordered from the
front desks of either Willis Hall. The orders will be
taken from now until Thanksgiving for $10 each. We
encourage you to buy these cool shirts and support
your residence halls! The ordered shirts should arrive
the week you return from Thanksgiving break.

Fall into the Fall Season Fall is here! For some, that means that the leaves are falling and there’s a definite chill in the air. For others, it’s a
time for midterms and then finally preparing for final exams in December. Making sure to be prepared for exams
is essential, consider taking a break as well in order to stay healthy and de-stress.
The Haymaker and Wellman staff has several events going on this month.
The highlight of November will be a homemade Thanksgiving dinner made by the staff of
Haymaker and Wellman. Wellman’s Thanksgiving will be on November 18th and Haymaker’s will
be on November 19th. The exact time is TBD, so keep an eye out for fliers or ask your RA.
All residents are required to attend the closing floor meetings on their floors on November 14th at
9:15pm. There their RA will go over the proper procedures necessary on your part to close the
building down for the fall and winter breaks.
Kayla will have her “Don’t Freak” program on November 1st.
Marissas DeMaria and Kayla May are holding a stress relief program on Novmber 8th.
Marissa Nelson will be having a Yoga and Tai Chi instructor come and lead a session on
November 9th.
The Haymaker and Wellman RHAs have combined forces and pooled their resources to form one larger
organization. If you haven’t already, stop by the first floor lounge every second Sunday at 9:00pm. Meetings
rotate between the buildings but all residents are welcome regardless of which building they live in. If you
cannot make the meetings, get in touch with an RHA member to relay your idea to the group. Your voice is
important! For more information about how to get involved, ask any RHA officer or your RA.

MUDD
Cup was a HUGE success
this year! Participants from
the various residence halls
competed vigorously during
the five day struggle. The
contest unexpectedly came
down to a tie between Tow-
ers East and First Year
North. After a week hiatus,
the two buildings again met,
this time in a final show-
down to decide who would
be this year’s champion. The
two 10-person teams com-
peted through five events.
Though North took an early
lead by winning the Tug-of-
War contest, East quickly
rebounded by winning the
extremely difficult lightning
trivia. After that inspiring
win, East never looked back.
They won the Bucket Ball
match, tied in the Apple
Tower game, and then ran
away with wins in
the Balloon Blow and Cup
Stack. The 2010 MUDD
Cup trophy now rests com-
fortably in its new home.
Those who competed for
East in the various events are
proud of their teammates.
Even many residents who
did not compete came out to
cheer on their friends and are
proud of their accomplish-
ments. When asked about
the convincing win, resident
adviser Greg Parkins said,
“What can I say? East is the
Beast!” Having asserted it-
self, this “beast” is going to
hibernate, waiting to win the
trophy back next year. Pic-
tured above are Mike Pres-
ton, 5th floor RA, and Chel-
sea Curry, resident of Tow-
ers East. Congrats!

Supplies for the Homeless purchased with donated pocket change from 10th floor
The 10th floor of Twin Towers East held a
program called "Help
Others with the Power of Pocket Change" that fo-
cused on helping others who are less fortu-
nate. The basis of the program was
to encourage the floor to
donate loose change or "pocket change" in a jar
to purchase toiletry items
for the homeless. Not only the 10th floor con-
tributed, but also resi-
dents of the 4th floor, guests, and a security
guard. Nearly $60 was raised for the pro-
gram. With this, 15 peo-ple will each have a bot-
tle of shampoo, condi-
tioner, tube of tooth-paste, a toothbrush, and
a bar of soap.
Pictured above: Rebecca and Cassondra donate their pocket change to support the cause.
RHA Fundraiser: Get your Can-
dy Grams! See your floor representative

It’s almost time for Fall Break!
Here in West, we are getting ready by planning our last mandatory meeting of
the semester. These meetings will take place on November 14th at 9:15pm on
each floor. All of our outstanding staff members will discuss the important steps
each resident needs to take before leaving for break to make sure the building
stays safe and secure while we are gone. So you’re not going to want to miss it!
