This study was conducted in:

The Hematology Clinic and Oncology

Departments of Ain Shams Children¶sHospital.

I- Technical Design:

R esearch setting:



This study covered the following:

90 children suffered from any type of cancer (leukaemia, brain tumor and Hodgkin disease).

Their age ranged from 5 to 15 years old. They were either newly diagnosis or coming for

follow up.

Caregivers that were accompanying their children during diagnosis or follow up.

Those caregivers that gave care to their childreneither parents, siblings, grandma or grandpa.

Subjects:



A Pre-designed Questionnaire Sheet(pre-post format):

To assess caregivers¶ knowledge for

caring of their children with cancer.

I t included questions about:

Meaning of Cancer,

Causes,

Signs and Symptoms,

Methods of Treatment, its Side Effects,

and Care of Cancer.

An Observation Sheet:

It was used to assess the caregivers¶

practices before and after program

implementation. Including:

Care of stomatitis,

Nausea and vomiting,

Control of bleeding, Care during fever, and

Avoidance of infection.

Attitude Assessment Sheet:

This sheet was used for appraisal of caregivers¶ attitude, it included:

Positive attitude: such as caregivers¶believes and religious in acceptance of cancer prognosis,

and understanding the importance of providing adequate care.

Negative attitude: such as caregivers¶anxious and worry,

or despair about cancer and its sequels.

articles, periodicals and magazines to get

after a simple conversation started by

introducing the researchers themselves to the participants, followed by mentioning the
