Turner, 82, of Garwood, passed away March 9, 1999. He was born December 16, 1916, in Hico, Texas, to Benjamin Franklin and Carrie Etta Huckabee Turner. Turner was a member of the Gar- wood Lions Club (with perfect atten- dance) and a veteran ofthe U.S. Army. He and Dorothy Draper were married December 26, 1942, in Min- eral Wells. Turner, employed by Garwood Ir- rigation, was vice-president of Lehrer Operations (in Garwood), retiring in 1982. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lauralea Turner; sisters, Millie Swartz and Wanda McElrath; and a brother, James Turner. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; son, Randy Turner of Hous- ton; and sisters, Thelma Tidwell of Waco, Annie Mae Homburg of Austin and Artie Fae Jenkins of Nacogdo- ches. Ragsdale, whose bi- ography ofthe co-founder ofthe Hol- ocaust Museum in Houston was re- cently published, will appear at the Nesbitt Memorial Library in Colum- bus to discuss and autograph copies of her book March 18. Ragsdale's talk will begin at 6 p.m., however she will begin selling and autographing copies of the book ($24.95) at 4 p.m. Ragsdale's book, Living Longer Than Hate, is a biogra- phy of Bill Morgan. Morgan, whose original name was Wolf Yossela Margulier, was born to a family of eastern European Jews in 1925. As he grew, the regimes of mili- taristic dictators Josef Stalin and Adolf Hitler played a large role in this life. His grandfather and brother were killed, in separate incidents, in 1941. Shortly after, he witnessed a mass kill- ing in a local cemetery. Escaping, he survived the war by pretending to be a Christian and living under a variety of aliases. He never saw his parents or siblings again. After the war, he spent several years in Germany. In 1949, he came to the U.S., where, under the name Bill 24&48 Morgan, he rose from his first job as a janitor to become a highly successful real estate developer. Ragsdale, who lives near Cat Spring, discussed the book at Colum- bus Jr. High in Feb. A long-time teacher and school administrator, she has also published three student oral history projects, one of which won a national award for historic preserva- tion, as well as fiction and poetry.
