Welcome Back Steck Families!
It’s hard to believe that we are all back starting a new year at Steck....I hope that you all had a wonderful
Summer, and that you are ready for another great year!
I would like to begin by welcoming some new Executive Board Members to our team. Kathy Lengiewicz‐
Sweeney is our 2nd VP, Beth Tukker is our Treasurer, and Lauren Farley is our 2nd Secretary. They are all
wonderful additions to the Board.
This year marks the 20th Anniversary of Steck. You will be able to see, or hear about, some fun ways we are
celebrating this event with the kids at School this year. What a wonderful milestone.
To start off the year, we will be holding 2 fundraisers back‐to‐back this Fall. In September, we are doing a Gift
Wrap Catalog Sale with Innisbrook, and in October we are having our 2nd Fun Run. I understand that having
these fundraisers back‐to‐back it a lot to ask, but I would like to point out that our third and final fundraiser will
be the Resale Event in April, almost 6 months after these are done. We have streamlined our Fundraising quite a
bit this year, and hopefully in the end it will work out as a stronger program. We are also offering an "opt out"
program for each of the 2 Fall fundraisers. In case you are not interested in participating in either or both of the
programs, we are going to provide you with the dollar amount that we would like to see from each child to reach
our fundraising goal for the year. I know so many of you have asked for this type of program in the past, and I
hope this will fill that void in our fundraising efforts.
We have some exciting programming this year, which we wouldn't be able to offer without all your membership
and fundraising efforts. Some things you are familiar with, and some may look a little different. I encourage you
all to attend our first PTA meeting on September 19th and learn more about what we have in store for this year.
We welcome you all!
Here's to another great year!

Mrs. Treptow’s PE Newsletter
Students in third, fourth, and fifth grade were involved in a class activity call Rock, Paper, Scissors Olympic Effort focusing on giving their best every day. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students have also been working on learning, reviewing, and practicing skills of soccer that include dribbling, passing, trapping, and goal tending. They will be putting these skills together in lead‐up and modified games. Students have started a short unit on football skills.
3‐5 PE News
I hope everyone had a fun and active summer.
Many students have shared that they enjoyed
watching the summer Olympics. It is great to see
so many students tell me about their favorite
athlete or event.
For those that are new to Steck Elementary
School, I will be your child’s physical education
teacher this year. I look forward to teaching your
students about movement, dance, sports, and
lifetime fitness activities.
Listed below you will find your child’s class and
their PE Days.

From the LMC:
Dear Steck Parents,
It’s that time again! The fall 2012 Reba O. Steck Book Fair will arrive in a few weeks! Our Book Fair will take place in the LMC from October 22 through October 26, including a special family night until 6PM on October 24th. Anderson’s Book Fair Company will provide quality hardcover and many paperback books for fall and beyond. Shop our book fair to find some early holiday treasures. Plan to come by in person and browse through the displays to see what's new and exciting from Anderson’s in Naperville . Funds raised by the Book Fair are used to purchase items in the LMC for our students.
Classroom Wish Lists will be available near the checkout desk. If you would like to purchase a book for one of your child's teachers or the LMC, don't forget to check the wish list board. Remember… a book is a present a teacher can open again and again! Once again we have bookplates you can complete at the Book Fair to place in your gift books. Another option is to purchase a Birthday Book in your child’s honor, presented to your child’s teacher on or near your child’s birthday.
Please note…if you wish to write a check for your purchases, please make your check out to “Anderson Bookfair Company”. As in the past, the State of Illinois requires us to collect sales tax. Our local rate is 8.25%, so plan to include this amount with any money you send with your child for book purchases. Once again we will accept major credit cards.
Something offered by Anderson Book Fair Company is shopping the book fair online! Their website, www.abcfairs.com, offers an opportunity for anyone to order at any time, with profits going to benefit Steck School. After entering the website click on “Find My School” and go to “Steck”. We look forward to seeing you at our Anderson’s Book Fair! As always, the children look forward with great excitement to the prospect of seeing what’s new and shopping for some great reading! Janeen Christakes LMC Director
