2020 Edition Moodle is an online system to support learning in classes. By accessing Moodle Class Pages created by Teachers (referred to as courses), it is possible to browse course materials and teaching materials outside of class hours, take quizzes, and prepare and review. You can also submit assignment reports online. In addition, using the forum (electronic bulletin board) it is possible to have discussions with course participants and collaborate with Wikis etc. However, not all classes at Chiba University use Moodle. And each class uses Moodle in various different ways. Please follow the instructions of your teacher as to how to use it in your class.     Please enable cookies on your browser when using Moodle. JavaScript must also be enabled for some of the features of Moodle (drag and drop file upload etc.). The following explanations will assume the use of JavaScript.

  • 1 Login to MoodleAccess https://moodle2.chiba-u.jp/moodle/ in your browser. To login, use your “User ID (ID for using Educational Computer Terminals)” and password. After entering, click “Login”.

    2 Register user information (if required)If you are prompted to register your user information when logging in for the first time, enter the following two items and then click “Update your Profile” at the bottom of the screen to update your registration information.

    4 Register your coursesTo use a course that is not registered and not displayed on the Dashboard, please select the course that you want to take from “All Courses” from the menu on the left-hand side of the screen.To use the selected course, you will need to register (first time only) by entering the Registration key (Password) provided by your class teacher.

    (1) Enter your first and last namePlease enter the first and last name that you have used for university enrollment.

    (2) Select your affiliationPlease select your affiliation from the pull-down menu.

    To use Moodle, login as below and then “Register user information (if required)” and “Register your courses”.

    (2) Enter your Registration key (Password)Enter the Registration key provided by your teacher, and then click “Register Me” to register yourself for the course.

    Connection with Registered Courses If you are using Moodle, classes that have been registered on the Student Portal will also be automatically registered under your Courses about 1 day after registration (However, this only applies for General Education and undergraduate classes, and graduate classes will need to be registered yourself separately).

    2 How to use Moodle

    Show the course categoriesunder “All Courses”

    Email AddressYou can receive messages from Moodle at your university email address. If you would like to receive messages at a different email address, please update your transfer settings on your page in the Chiba University Web Email System.

    3 Dashboard: List of registered coursesA list of registered courses will be displayed under “All courses” on the “Dashboard” after you login. Courses that you are taking are classified as “In progress”, courses that will be offered in the future as “Future”, and courses that are completed as “Past”.

  • 3 Submission of report assignmentsPlease refer to the following to submit report assignments through Moodle. Report submission may be by uploading a file or by writing directly on the Moodle system, but this explains how to upload a file (please follow the instructions of your class teacher for submitting reports).

    Please confirm the content of the assignment and the deadline. Click on “Add Assignment” to display the “File Submission” screen.

    Click on assignments set within the course (e.g. “Report assignments”) to display the content of the assignment.The “ ” icon refers to assignments.

    To upload the report file to be submitted to Moodle, drag and drop the file into the window indicated by the arrow.

    Finally, the confirmation screen will be displayed. The “Submission Status” will show “Submitted for Evaluation” and the file uploaded by “File Submission” under 4 will be displayed.Also, if editing is allowed after submission, click “Edit Submission” to replace the submission file.

    Check that the uploaded file is displayed, and then click “Save Changes” to complete the submission.You can click on the file icon to display a screen where you can change the file name or delete files.

    If there are display problems, please try a different browser. The latest versions of Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Internet Explorer are recommended for using Moodle.

    If you are instructed to take a quiz in class, refer to the following instructions for taking quizzes (whether or not there are quizzes set will depend on the class).

    Answer the displayed questions in sequence (the settings will depend on the class. The quiz may be set up so that you can only answer once, or it may allow you to continue answering until you answer correctly). Click “next” to move on to the next question. Also, if you click “End test” you will be taken back to screen 3.

    After you have answered all of the questions, click “Finish and Send all” at the bottom of the screen.

    The quiz is complete when the test report is displayed, which summarizes the score and correct/incorrect answers etc. (a test report may not be displayed, depending on the settings of the class teacher).

    A confirmation screen will be displayed, so select “Finish and Send All” again. Please note that if you do not complete the procedure above you will not be considered to have completed the quiz.

    Click on the quiz that is set for your course (e.g. “Chinese Practice Questions”) to display the content of the quiz.The “ ” icon refers to quizzes.
