Inside this issue:
Winter 2019
You met Herb and June in our
year-end letter. Their volunteer
Jim’s weekly visits allows June time
to run errands (essential to living at
home independently) and to take
care of herself.
Meanwhile, Jim and Herb’s
lunches together and reminiscing
are also meaningful. Jim feels his
visits give Herb “new stuff to talk
about,” “offers a different
perspective,” and “changes his
normal routine.” Jim continues, “I
know how important my visits are
because Herb always greets me with
a smile on his face. We talk for
hours on end about farming, family,
his old electrical jobs, and our
military service.”
Herb shares, “My life has been
interesting. I can’t say there have
been many dull moments. Jim is
easy to talk to. We have a few
things in common from our younger
years. We always seem to be on
the same page.”
June exclaims, “Jim has become a
very good friend! He even stops by
if he doesn’t hear from us.”
Overall, Jim enjoys his volunteer
visits saying, “We keep people in
their homes where they’re happier
and live longer.” And adds,
“Someday it’s going to be me!”
With the 2020 New Year,
please consider being the

They meet quarterly to learn more from three
nonprofits who help people living in Polk and Burnett
Counties. At the end of the event, the women all
vote. The winning nonprofit receives $100 from each
woman!
Interfaith Caregivers of Polk County was excited to
present to the group at their meeting on November
13 at Tesora in Siren. Our proposal was to help more
seniors and disabled adults who need help with light
housekeeping (e.g. adults age 80+, people using a
wheelchair, vision impaired, COPD…). While
Interfaith has a few, wonderful volunteers who
currently do cleaning, there are many more requests
for help than Interfaith can fill.
We asked for funding from 100 Women Who Care
to connect private, paid housekeeping services with
adults needing help to keep their homes clean and
safe.
By a close vote, Interfaith Caregivers’ project was
chosen to be funded for $10,600!!!
WOOT! WOOT!! WOOT!!!
The funding will be used to help 40 people with
cleaning for one hour every other week. That totals
approximately1,000 hours for the year.
This funding will help Alice who lives in an apartment
in Milltown. At age 70+, she is widowed, has a bad
back from years of factory work and is a cancer
survivor. Alice is looking forward to help with
vacuuming, sweeping the kitchen floor and tidying up
the bathroom. “My back is so bad; I just can’t do it by
myself anymore.”
Now I need your help:
Identify clients who need help with light cleaning
(there are already eight people on our waiting
list).
Identify people/businesses that do paid
housekeeping
Please contact Interfaith Caregivers at 715-825-9500
to share this information or to learn more.
