From the desk of the Grand KnightWorthy Brother Knights:

As you know, we have two big holidays in November. The first is Veterans Day, celebrated the day the armistice ending World War I was signed. This year is the hundredth anniversary of the end of that terrible war.

When people join the service, they take an oath, which is essentially a blank check to the government for everything up to and including their lives. It’s not a trivial matter, just look at these numbers of American military killedin our most recent wars:

World War I 116,708World War II 405,399Korean War 128,650Vietnam 58,220Afghanistan 2,372Iraq 4,486

Our Council is indeed fortunate to have so many veterans, many of which keep right on giving. It’s just one more thing for which to be thankful.

Like many of you, I have a lot for which to be grateful. Even so, I often take so much of it for granted. When asked how he’s doing, Ralph Barnett,a new member, always replies, “Better than I deserve.” I was humbled the first time I heard that. I don’t have everything I want, but I’m certainly betteroff than I deserve as well. Thank you Lord for all your blessings!

And thank you Brother Knights for all you do for our Council, and the people and organizations we serve! Please have a great day.

Vivat Jesus!Ron Bourque

Who is our Recorder, Pete Klecan?I was raised by a very Catholic mom in Islip, NY, the youngest of five. Went to a SUNY community college for a two-year degree, worked three years in construction after that and continued on with bachelors in Agronomy from the University of Georgia.

I volunteered for the Jesuit Volunteer Corp for one year at a Catholic funded homeless shelter in

Spokane, WA where I live embraced the Corps four values of community living, spirituality, social justice and simple lifestyle. I also met my wife of 32 years in Spokane. (Pete's Biography is continued on page 6)

Council Meeting Notes – Nov 14UNOFFICIAL(Taken from notes of the Worthy Recorder, Pete Klecan. All officers present except Dan Norris, excused. Meetingwas called to order at 7:30PM. There were 32 membersattending. Minutes read, corrected, and accepted.

Chaplain's Time: Fr. Vincent read today's Gospel account of the ten lepers who were cleansed, but only the one Samaritan returned to show gratitude. He talked on the need to show gratitude to those who help us. Sometimes we neglect this because ofpride or greed or forgetfulness. No one wants to be taken for granted. Our ingratitude is a sign of a poverty of love for one another. We may pray to God “We give you thanks for your great glory,” but we can also thank others for theirsmall kindnesses.

Treasurer's and Financial Secretary's Reports: Bob Fournier and Charlie WalshBob and Charlie reviewed our financial status. Bob passed out a draft version of the council budget for 2019. This will bea notice of motion (see page 9), and we will discuss the proposal at the next meeting. This yearly budget allocates funds for our recurring expenses and charities. We will not be bring up each item for a vote during the year. For example, eachyear we donate to NH Seminarians $600; we have a line item in the budget for that donation, so when the time comes for that expense (in December) we do not go thru the notice of motions and then separate vote during the business meeting.

A new member, James Cooper, transferred in “from the KofC web site.” James, welcome. Please attend so we can greetyou personally.

The October results are “in,” business remains very good. The gap between the record breaking profit of last year and this year is about $15K. It probably won't close, but we are still headed for a great year. Thanks to Paul Simard, Lou Stella, and the bingo crew, our customers, and of course, Thanks be to Almighty

God for granting us these funds to use for charity. Check out the Face Book page at: Bingo at the Kiwanis Hall

GOOD OF THE ORDER

Peter Klecan's biography (continued from page 1.) I followed my interest in working in human service and once back in the East, I continued on in the mental health field, working initially in Lawrence, MA, which led to work at the Center for Life Management, the local mental health agency. This will be my 35th year working with people with chronic and severe mental health illnesses. My work started by providing outreach and case management providing direct service, guiding people, helping them get back on track by utilizing resources and supports to embrace their recovery.

My wife and I are blessed to have three wonderful three children from our marriage. For many years, our main hobby was going to each of their sporting events. We also are sponsoring a Mexican student who lives with us. She was born in Boston and came to us via the Race Track Ministry over a year ago.

I have varied interests: spirituality, gardening, boating, volunteering with my wife, wood working, and painting when I am inspired.

My faith is my strength which gives me the ability to continue to work in the mental health field. I consider the Knights andtheir mission to provide charity to others as one way of strengthening my faith. Their charitable works are what attracted me to the Knights.
