President’s Pony Notes—By George Stegner

Hi, Mustangers. It’s March and

Spring is almost here, but you wouldn’t

know it by looking at the pile of snow in

my yard and back driveway. At least

this year I made some progress on my

worklist. I finally got the correct wheels

sandblasted and painted on the blue ’68

convertible. I replaced the stock power

steering system with a Borgeson sys-

tem in Joy’s red ’68 convertible, and I

got the power steering system working

again in the red fastback. I did a few

other things along the way. Now it’s

time to start cleaning and polishing.

The club had another great

showing at the World of Wheels. Al-

though the main reason we participate

in the World of Wheels show is to pro-

mote the club and obtain some new

members, everyone took home an

award. We had several compliments on

how friendly our club members were,

and willing to talk with the people at

the show. Evidently, other car clubs

don’t make the effort to visit with peo-

ple. The award winners were listed in

last month’s newsletter.

The chili supper was the follow-

ing weekend and was a great success,

as usual. Thanks go out to Everett Kel-

logg for reserving the clubhouse for us,

and to Nona for organizing and

“hosting” another delightful gastronom-

ical meeting. Also, thanks to those who

came early to set up and those who

stayed late to clean up.

After these snowstorms, March

is going to be fun. The Kansas City

Auto Show is March 6 through 10. Ford

invited our club members to a “Sneak

Peek” of the Ford exhibit and special

presentation of the cars on March 7.

Fifty-five of our members have signed up

for that event compared to 30 people last

year.

On March 15 we have a unique

opportunity to attend the Maverick’s

hockey game. On Friday nights they typi-

cally recognize and honor the veterans in

attendance. At this game, they will have

Col. Folsom from Wounded Warriors Fam-

ily Support Organization and Tyler Huff-

man in attendance for special recognition.

Tyler was the benefactor of last year’s

WWFS tour proceeds, which were used to

help fund a “smart” home in Jefferson City

for the wounded veteran. The Colonel

and Tyler will drop the ceremonial puck

also. The Mavericks have set aside 98

tickets for MCGKC members and guests

and given us a discounted price of $13 per

ticket. It should be a great evening, so

please come out.

On March 16 we have the Snake

Saturday parade and the Brookside pa-

rade. After the Snake Saturday parade

we’ll head to some establishment and grab

a bite to eat. I’m not sure where we’re

headed, so check Nona’s social report. If

you can’t make it to the parade you’re al-

ways welcome to join us for a late lunch.

Gary Allen was organizing a road

trip to Columbus, OH for the All-Ford Swap

Meet April 4-7, but he didn’t have enough

interest so the trip is cancelled. Our first

cruise night is the following weekend. The

first National Show of the season is April

19-21 in Beaumont, TX. Several of us are

going. The Mecum KC auction is April 25-

27.

See you soon! -George

at 813-777-0565...mention club discounted ticket price. Doors open at 5:30 PM. As of

March 1 we only have 13 families signed up to attend. Please email nonahernan-

should be the week of the 4th for Snake Saturday and the week of the 11th for Brook-

side. The parades (both) will count as “other show/display/cruise” in the 289 book.

Contact Nona Hernandez if you still need to sign up.

May

Saturday, May 25 – Eureka Springs, AR Mustang Show. We are the host car club for

the annual Mustang show in Eureka Springs, AR, Saturday May 25. We will need mem-

bers to attend and work the event (registration, parking). This event will count toward

a 5.0 Travelers Award. As a part of our hosting the event, we get front row parking at

the show site. I placed a block on 25 hotel rooms at the Quality Inn & Suites, which is

about 500 ft. from the show site. The hotel rate for this show is $79.99 + tax (regularly

$109.99), for two adults in either a double Queen or a King room. One extra adult (in a

room adds $10.00, and two extra adults add $20.00). These prices are good for Friday,

May 24 and Saturday May 25, but will be honored if you want to arrive a few days early

or stay over. This includes a free hot breakfast from 6:30 to 9:30 AM, free meeting

room for club business, indoor pool and hot tub and a big screen TV……Saturday night

feature is “Gone in 60 Seconds”. Best news is that they will furnish a FREE car wash

area with soap, water, and towels. There is a large parking lot that will accommodate

some trailers on a first come first serve basis. There is also another property for trailer

parking but it’s down the road from the hotel just a bit. I will send an email to those

who sign up with all the specifics on making hotel reservations, etc. You may email me

at [email protected] with any questions or if you need a show registration

form, or call at 913-909-8409.

Columbus

Spring Swap

Gary Allen in-

formed me that he did

not get enough interest

from members wanting

to go to the All-Ford

Spring Swap Meet in

Columbus, OH. So the

trip has been cancelled.

Hopefully, next year will

work out.

Shriner’s

Swap Meet

Since we aren’t

going to Columbus, Jack

Bosic thought it might

be fun to do the

Shriner’s Swap meet

April 13 and 14th. If

anyone is interested,

contact Jack or Lorne

Willard. Numbers on

page two.

Missouri

Mavericks

Update

We still have

many seats available

and the Mavericks will

have to release this re-

served section this week

to the public. This

game is looking to be a

sell out. These two

teams are battling each

other for a play off posi-

tion.

Social Report—By Nona Hernandez

KC Auto

Show

Ford Motor Com-

pany invited our club and

the Mid-America Mus-

tangers to a sneak peek to

the Kansas City Auto Show

on Thursday, March 7th.

We’ve been invited the last

few years and it has been

well attended, and this year

was no exception. The offi-

cial sign up list had 48 club

members and there were

some other guests and fa-

miliar faces that were with

the MAM club.

While there weren’t

any overly exciting proto-

types, it was a good way to

get in and see the new cars.

Next year, maybe there will

be?

home at 21028 West 81st

Place, Shawnee, KS.

RJ’s house is about

north or take the 87th

Street exit from I-35 and go

west for about 5 miles (note

that 87th Street turns into

83rd Street), make a right

on Wooland Drive and then

take the first left (about .3

miles).

RJ’s cell number is

913-706-0744 if you need

directions or you can con-

tact Jack Bosic at 913-645-

0648 for more information.

A third Judges Clinic

will be held at our June

cruise night.

World of

Wheels

In addition to the

World of Wheels results

from February, John and

Shari Godfrey received a

Best in Class in the 68-72

Restored class and a Best

Restored cash award for

their 1969 Mach 1.

Again, thanks to

everyone who showed or

helped out with the show

and congratulations to all

the winners!

Planning and preparation for this year's Annual Show on June 22nd at Bass Pro in Olathe is

now well underway and progressing nicely. The Show Flyer and Registration Form (with

show classes listed on the back) were available at the club's World of Wheels information

table and at February's Chili Supper. Remember, register early to take advantage of the

available discount.

Check out the Show Flyer for this year's artwork that will carry through to the dash plaques,

t-shirts, signs, informational materials, posters and banners. The show's designated charity

this year is Hope Lodge in Kansas City. Our application has been delivered to and approved

by Hope Lodge and a representative will be attending our March General Meeting to provide

an overview of the services they provide and to answer any questions. A preliminary

budget was presented at the January Board of Directors meeting and was approved. A final

budget reflecting the finalization of certain key items will be presented for approval at the

March BOD meeting.

Agreement has been reached with B.J. Richardson to meet our sound and emcee require-

ments. This includes the use of a tower with directional speakers to "place" the right sound

level to all show field locations. The ability to provide universal sound coverage coupled

with the placement of the sound equipment, administrative tents, and general day of show

activities in a more centralized location will allow for an enhanced "one show look and feel"

by significantly reducing the differences between the two parking areas.

The committee is expecting and planning for a 24% increase in car participation from last

year's level, and has worked with Bass Pro to secure space sufficient for more should the

estimated turnout be even higher. Delivering a high quality and enjoyable regional show

with greater than 200 entries is a challenge that will need to be met with a large number of

volunteers from the club's membership. As such, starting with the March General Meeting,

a sign-up binder will be available providing tabs for each functional area along with a brief

description of the area's responsibility. Your personal support is greatly appreciated!!

Lastly, the "Sponsorship Drive" will formally commence at the March 12th meeting of the

Show Committee, but has already begun with the confirmation of several of our primary

sponsors from last year and the development of a robust potential sponsorship listing. The

general membership can also be of great service in this area by providing the names of po-

tential sponsors that you have done business with and/or know personally who might be

willing to be a sponsor. Information regarding show sponsorship pricing tiers and the related

process to control the contacting of potential sponsors will be available at the March General
