MUSTANG CLUB OF GREATER KANSAS CITY Coming Events September 10th— Cruise Night September 14th — Board Meeting September 18th — General Meeting September 27Grand National Com- mittee Meeting October 8th—Pink Cruise Night Wow! What happened to the month of August? The month was particularly busy and rewarding for me! The first 10 days of the month I was on my annual road trip. I made it back in time to attend the first half of the Chiefs and left early to enjoy another great Cruise Night, which included a nice display by the Falcon Club. While out of town, RJ, Jim and George presented our donation to Childrens Mercy from the Annual Show. Thanks to Jeff and his Show Committee as well as every- one that helped, entered or attended the car show and generate the proceeds to donate! I was home just long enough to pack and fly to Detroit with Doye to drive the Wounded Warrior Family Support Shelby GT350. Our tour of duty began at the Woodward Cruise, which boasts more than 1,000,000+ fans in attendance and included Mustang Alley, which included 3 miles of Mustangs parked along both sides of a street. The next day we attended the Mustang Owners Club of Southern Michigan Mustang Memories Car Show, which had more than 400 cars, in- cluding 83 Mustang IIs as part of a national reunion. Other stops included Ford World Headquarters, where the car was signed by Mark Fields, Ford President & CEO, several fundraising events hosted by UAW Locals at Ford plants, and finished the week at a WWFS Golf Benefit hosted by Local 3000 from the Flatrock Plant. Such an honor to drive this car and experience how it moves people to donate and touch their heart for what it represents; freedom is not free, gratitude for those who sacrifice for our freedom, and for those that have or currently serve in the military. Im spending the last few days of August at the MCA 40th Anniversary in Indianapolis and promoting our 2017 Grand National with the help of several other club members. Be- ing here is a reminder that the spotlight will be on our club in less than a year when we will host the MCA 2017 Grand National in Overland Park. There is a lot of interest from folks and it is encouraging so many are planning to attend. Please take an opportunity to sign up for a subcommittee and help plan an event that will raise a much larger donation next year for Childrens Mercy. Please remember that the Wounded Warrior High Five Tour comes back to Kansas City for the 9/11 weekend. Mark and his High Five Tour Committee have several fundrais- er events planned including a cruise night at Dick Smith Ford, a pancake breakfast at Olathe Ford, the Gails Harley Davidson 9/11 Rally and Tribute Ride, and display as part of the Ford Fan Experience before the Chiefs home opener at Arrowhead Stadium. Finally, its time to renew club membership this month! Our club membership is at an all time high and my hope is that we will continue to grow through the Fall and Winter when membership typically declines. Where else can you belong to a club for only $20 and have so much fun participating in social events, show & shines, track events, and feel good about raising money for the charities our club supports? We are limited to 50 spaces at Olathe Ford, and 130 spaces at Dick Smith Ford.

Several club members are taking turns driving Miss Divine K and working the HFT. Ed Mardiat, Doye Ewert, and Jim Doiron will be in De-troit. Dan and Sandy Bentch are driving the Sep. 12th leg of the tour to Las Vegas. George Stegner and RJ Coberly will relieve them for the next leg of the tour.

2. Joining the Mustang Club of America: MCA has created three tiers of membership levels, with an-nual pricing of $25-$50. All levels enable MCA members to participate in MCA events. There are also dis-counts for purchases and insurance, including the Ford X-Plan for pur-chasing new vehicles. If you are NOT an MCA member, please con-sider joining this year to participate in our own 2017 Grand National Show.

3. Pink Cruise: We appreciate and thank Nancy Bloom for serving as the Pink Cruise Chairperson. The Pink Cruise will be on Sat. Oct. 8th, at our regular cruise site. All funds raised go to the Bret Miller 1T Foun-dation. Nancy seeks gift baskets for the Silent Auction. We need your help posting Pink Cruise Flyers and spreading the word.

4. Member Involvement: We have many groups working within the club to plan events and activities to bene-fit our members and our community. There are many opportunities: Pink Cruise, Cruise Committee, and many groups working in support of the 2017 GN Show. You are wel-come to serve as a Club Officer. All are invited to participate. We need your help now.

New Business

1. Election of Club Officers for 2017, Lorne Willard: the nominating committee is putting together a slate of officers for 2017. We hope that eligible officers will continue to

Meeting Minutes—Continued

serve, and remind the members that we have a few positions that must turn over in 2017. Please see Lorne if you are willing to serve. The slate of nominees will be presented at the September meeting, elections will be held at the October meeting, and new officers will begin service at the November Board meeting.

2. Wreaths Across America, Bill and Nancy Bloom: This year’s wreath-laying ceremony will be held on Sat-urday, December 17th. Meet at the Bloom’s house at 9:30 a.m., and we will car-pool in SUV’s to the Leaven-worth National Cemetery (parking is limited). Dress very warmly, paying attention to head, hands, and feet! We usually arrange a luncheon af-terward. We collect funds to pur-chase the wreaths: $15 each, and for every three we buy, we get one bonus wreath. Bill Bloom will also accept donation checks made out to “Wreaths Across America,” with a cutoff in early November.

It is easy to purchase a wreath online – be sure to scroll through the organizations to find MCGKC, so we will be credited, and the wreath will go to the Leavenworth Nat’l Ceme-tery. Website: http://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/#join-us Click on “Donate,” then scroll down for “sponsor a wreath with a local fundraising group.” Wait for the map to download the location dots. Then, search for the Mustang Club of Greater Kansas City.

3. The 50/50 Raffle ($40 total) was won by Bill Whiteside, who donated his $20 share to the Pink Cruise Charity.

For the Good of the Order: Ed Mardiat received an email request for a classic (60’s) Mustang ride for a gentleman in the community to his 70th birthday party on Sep. 3rd in Parkville. Nona has the info. The family is willing to pay for your time and gasoline. (11 – 11:20 a.m.)

The meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m. The next club meeting will be Sun-day, Sep. 18th. We will have a Pot-luck Dinner at 4 p.m., followed by a general membership meeting at 5 p.m.

Janice L. Somerville, Secretary

2016 Pink Cruise Our 5th annual Pink Cruise Night will

be held October 8th from 4-7 PM at our

regular cruise night location, 103rd and

Mastin. This cruise night is a regular

cruise night with all makes and models

welcome, but with a breast cancer

theme. About 2,600 men will be diag-

nosed with breast cancer in 2016 so

armed with that staggering information,

our charity for 2016 will be the Bret Mil-

ler 1T Foundation in support of The Male

Breast Cancer Coalition. 100% of our

proceeds will go directly to the Founda-

tion. In past years, we have raised well

over $1,000 each year but in order to

accomplish and surpass that goal, we

are dependent on our members for our

silent auction.

Please plan to do a basket or donate

an item for auction. If you want ideas,

let me know! More information will be

coming on our Pink Cruise but start

thinking about your baskets! I can be

reached via call or text at 913-217-8668

or by phone at work my work number –
