Oil Filter Housing, Replacement

You must read and understand the precautions andguidelines in Service Information, group 20, "GeneralSafety Practices, Engine" before performing thisprocedure. If you are not properly trained and certifiedin this procedure, ask your supervisor for trainingbefore you perform it.

Removal1Apply the parking brake and place the shift leverin neutral.

Remove all cables from ground (negative) batteryterminals to prevent personal injury from electrical shock.

3Remove inner splash guard as an assembly.

Note: Some models may be equipped with fenderextenders attached to the inner splash guard. Removethese as an assembly.

Cut the tie strap securing the turbocharger actuator andspeed sensor wiring harnesses. Disconnect and removethe connectors mounted in the bracket at the oil filterhousing. Disconnect the clamp securing the harness tothe oil filter housing. Then remove the harness connectorbracket from the oil filter housing.

Disconnect the oil supply line from the bottom of theturbocharger and from the oil filter housing.

Disconnect the oil drain pipe from the bottom of theturbocharger spacer block. Discard the gasket and O-ringfrom the spacer block. Also disconnect the oil drain pipefrom the cylinder block.

7Disconnect any remaining oil lines from the oil filterhousing. Remove and discard any sealing washers.

Clean around the oil filter housing and oil filters. Removethe oil filters using the oil filter wrench or the oil filtersocket.

Note: Place a pan below the filters to catch any oil.

Remove two upper bolts from the oil filter housing andreplace them with short alignment pins. Remove theremaining oil filter housing bolts.

10Separate the oil filter housing from the cylinder block andremove and discard the housing gasket.

Installation1Clean the mounting surfaces of the oil filter housingand the cylinder block.

2Install a new oil filter housing gasket over the alignmentpins against the cylinder block.

Install the oil filter housing over the alignment pinsand against the gasket.

4Install the oil filter housing bolts and hand tightenthem. Replace the alignment pins with the remainingtwo bolts. Tighten the oil filter housing bolts to 24 ± 4Nm (18 ± 3 ft-lb).

5Install the oil lines to the oil filter housing. Use newsealing washers as needed.

Obtain new oil filters and fill them with engine oil.Lubricate the oil filter gaskets with oil (1). Hand-tightenthe filters until they contact the face of the oil filter housing(2). Manually tighten the oil filters an additional 3/4to 1 full turn (3).

Replace and lubricate the turbocharger oil drain pipe sealrings and connect the pipe to the cylinder block. Connectthe oil drain pipe to the bottom of the turbocharger spacerblock with new gasket. Tighten to specification.

Connect the oil supply line to the bottom of theturbocharger and to the oil filter housing.

Install the wire harness connector bracket to the oil filterhousing. Install the connectors to the bracket on the oilfilter housing. Install the clamp to secure the harness tothe oil filter housing. Install a new tie strap to securethe turbocharger actuator and speed sensor wiringharnesses to the oil drain pipe.

10Install the inner splash guard assembly.

11Check the oil level and fill with approved engine oilas needed.

Install all previously removed cables to the ground(negative) battery terminals.

13Start the engine, check for leaks and proper operation.After shutdown, replenish fluids as necessary.
