Deirdre and imEvery Decoration was Done
With Love...
Deirdre, your wedding is so awesome looking. How did you choose
your theme?
I wanted a “hand done” wedding and a wedding done with love. My vision was a
vintage, shabby chic wedding that was laid back and relaxed. When I saw the barn,
I fell in love with it and knew I had found our wedding location. We knew there
would be lots of children and I wanted it to be a wonderful day for all our guests,
young and old.
When you say “hand done”, what do you mean?
I wanted to make as much of the decorations as possible. I wanted a natural,
outdoorsy wedding that reflected both Tim and my personality. We made so many of
the decorations and had such fun!
Which of the decorations did you make?
I made the pinwheels that are in the basket on the wagon. I knew the kids would
enjoy these and I was right! I made our guest book that included an envelope for
messages, as well as the pomander balls on the cake table. Tim’s mom and her sisters
did a fabulous job with all the amazing flowers. My sweet mom and sister made the
wonderful burlap tablecloths and banners, which had a vintage charm to them. We
decorated the rustic wagon on the grounds and used it for gifts and cards. Everything
was done with love!

How did you choose your bridesmaids dresses and colors?
Interesting story! I chose a nude, blush color and asked my bridesmaids to chose
a dress they would be comfortable in. Even though they are from different states,
the dresses ended up being the same color and perfectly coordinated!
Let me guess…I’m guessing you served BBQ?
Of course! We had it catered by a local barbeque restaurant and had all the
fixin’s. We served wine and beer.
Overall, how would you describe your wedding?
It was such a wonderful day and a wonderful, intimate family affair. Casual and fun
with lots of laughter and love. Perfect. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Looks we Love…the rustic wagon, casual elegance, bathtub of
beverages, gorgeous, upswept hair...

WI Rehearsal Dinner Tips
Typically, rehearsal dinners are started early and have a set ending time to ensure that you will be fresh and rested for the next day. No one minds when the Bride announces that she must get home to get her “beauty rest”. If you are having a smaller rehearsal dinner, encourage your guests to introduce themselves to the entire group. Suggest that they share their relationship to the bride and groom and a quick story or toast they have about you or the groom. Remind everyone to keep them simple and sweet. Enjoy your favorite foods and drinks- this night is the start of a great weekend. Everyone needs to be fresh and ready for your big day!
Finally, after the toasts or before you make your exit, ask to have a moment so that you can properly thank each one who has help you get to this point -your family, your attendants, friends - and express your appreciation and love to them for their part in this wonderful time in your life.

Sarah and MikeAN EARTH DAY WEDDING
RealBride.HerStory
Sarah wanted a natural feel for her wedding and chose a color palette of
greens, whites and creams. Since both she and Mike have a love of nature,
they wanted to have an organic feel to their wedding. Linens were shades of
green and the venue was on the edge of the woods with an enormous picture
window behind the altar giving the chapel a very open feel. About a week
before the wedding, Sarah realized they were getting married on Earth Day,
so it was perfect!

fun girls
Sarah was considering alternative options for the guest book and her father,
who is an artist, created an original piece of art for her. He designed a piece of
work that is priceless to the couple. He placed a silhouette of Mike and Sarah
holding hands beneath two trees, their branches intertwined to form a canopy.
It is four and a half feet tall and guests signed the leaves and doves sitting on
branches. A very special gift for a very special couple.
The D.J. at the wedding played the anniversary dance - a dance where all the
married couples start dancing and are eliminated until the couple who has
been married the longest is left. Sarah knew her grandparents would be last,
having been married for 60 years and still in love. Sarah arranged for the D.J. to
play her grandparents favorite song and when they were the last couple on the

floor, Sarah and Mike joined them to share the dance. Sarah then presented her
grandmother with her bridal bouquet and said, “It was hard to find a dry eye in
the place”.
The party favors were another clever, organic idea that Sarah loved. Handmade
paper hearts were embedded with wildflower seeds for their guests to take home
to plant in their garden. What a wonderful reminder of Sarah and Mike’s wedding
when they bloomed a few weeks later! She loved the way they were displayed -
her florist planted grass seed in an old fashioned bird bath and nestled the cards
among fresh, young grass and wildflowers. It was a beautiful, unique touch.
Loves we Love…the organic, green feel of the wedding, the
birdbath and natural grass, tailgate pictures…

You’ve seen them in all the major magazines, on Pinterest and at bridal shows. They are colorful, economical and…well, fun! Guests love them and why not? It’s like the saying goes…you’re like a kid in a candy store!
Alondra Bella, owner of Simply Sweet in Yukon has perfected candy and dessert buffets for weddings and they are absolutely stunning. She makes them playful, colorful, vintage, sophisticated or whatever your theme might be. She says she does an artful color coordination for the bride in her wedding colors and the effect is truly impressive and memorable. Candy and dessert buffet specialists use an appealing and complex array of decorative containers utilizing multi-levels and various sizes, as well as props. Of course, they make for great photography!
Brides today are straying from the large tiered traditional wedding cakes and opting for more variety for their guests. They are still ordering a small, traditional cake for the cake cutting, but are also providing more sweet options for their guests to enjoy in the form of cupcakes, candy bars, individual pies, mini caramel apples and flavored popcorn. Can you imagine how fun and tasty this dessert buffet would be for your wedding guests?
One of Alondra’s most sensational desserts is called a Tuxedo Bomb and is always in huge

demand and here‘s why: it’s made with a rich, fudgey bottom, layered with light chocolate mousse and finished with a Ghirardelli dark chocolate ganache glaze and drizzled with white chocolate…it is sinfully wonderful.
Bruce and Ron Heiken of Johnnie‘s Sweet Creations, have been serving the Oklahoma City area for 13 years and keep up with the current trends in entertaining and weddings. Sarah Dowell at Johnnie’s, says that cupcakes continue to be strong and brides do like the many flavors they can serve at their weddings. Favorites include red velvet, vanilla and chocolate. Along with tempting
smaller sweets, they also make tiered cakes that are artful creations that are almost to beautiful to cut. Both impressive and delicious, these cakes are still in demand.
Janet Rosebeary, owner of Rosebeary’s Designs in Baking, also agrees that cupcakes are very popular and here to stay. Although Rosebearys offers 50 luscious flavors of cupcakes, Janet says that chocolate and white are usually preferred although peanut butter fudge is often requested.
Candy and dessert buffets will offer today’s bride endless ways to express her individuality as well as “wow” her guests and leave them feeling they have been treated to an especially awesome evening.

Gratuity for your vendors is sometimes overlooked when
planning a wedding budget. Planning ahead is essential.
Wedding vendors should be given a gratuity just as you
do when having your hair or nails done or after a meal
in a restaurant. Tips should be dispersed by someone
other than you or the groom. Ask someone responsible
to be in charge and discuss amounts beforehand but do
Debbie’s Tip - Wedding Tips and Gratuity
allow them the opportunity to make adjustments
according to how things come together on your
wedding day. Tips for the catering staff can be
a set amount per server or by percentage like at
a restaurant (15-20%), then the total tip can be
divided between all the servers and staff. Hair
stylists and makeup artists should be tipped
a percentage of the total bill. It’s nice to have
a thank you note written in advance with the
gratuity enclosed especially you have a long
standing relationship with them. If your other
vendors own their own photography, video, floral
shops, etc. tipping is not necessarily expected but is
always appreciated. Also, be sure to have tips ready
for anyone who is delivering and setting up, they
are typically tipped. All your wedding vendors are
putting their heart and soul into making sure this
day is just as you have dreamed it and a gratuity is
always in good taste.

From the moment Sean saw Erin at a training seminar, he knew she was the one for him. Patience paid off and after dating a number of years, they were married in a fairy tale ceremony. Wearing her late Mother’s diamond necklace, Erin walked down the aisle, glowing, looking and feeling like a princess. Carrying a large, fresh arrangement of plump white hydrangeas, snow white roses and calla lilies, the moment was all she had envisioned.
Erin chose her photographer, Christie Conyer, after searching online and was definitely pleased with Christie‘s photo creativity. They shared a Pinterest board of wedding photography that they both admired and Erin felt that Christie captured the day beautifully.
Sean and Erin made a decision to have a “first look” and it was a very special part of the wedding day. Erin says that all the nervous jitters evaporated the instant she saw Sean and they were able to have a few private emotional moments. Sean held Erin and said, “I love you. Let’s do this”.

My first piece of advice to girls planning
their wedding is to make lots and lots
of lists. I had a wedding planning book
that had timelines and helpful advice
in it. It is so easy to get distracted
but try hard to stay on task. It will
save your (and your future husbands)
sanity.
Get started and do as much as you
can as soon as you possibly can. Ask for help, don’t try to take on the load yourself.
Use Pinterest! I searched and pinned many ideas that I loved and this helped me
organize my thoughts and ultimately make my decisions.
I also suggest choosing a venue that includes as much in the package as possible so
that you do not have to find catering, a cake, linens, etc. It is so much help and a great
stress reliever to have this taken care of at one venue. We choose the Palace Event
Center and they were very accommodating and wonderful to work with. The Palace’s
wedding coordinator was helpful at setting up appointments with vendors and offering
advice on who might be good options for our size wedding. I feel an “all inclusive”
venue saved us money in the long run.

If you are creative…go for it! I made the “Here Comes the Bride” sign that my adorable
flower girl carried down the aisle. I used my grandpa’s old suitcase with a banner that
said “Cards” for gifts and cards. I used a variety of vintage, charming birdcages on the
tables for centerpieces.
We chose to have an Italian buffet for the reception. We had a number of
delicious pastas and wonderful breads. My wedding cake was awesome!
It was 4 layers of strawberry, lemon, butter pecan and raspberry. It was so
beautiful with ruffles, pearls and a pink garden rose
on top. The grooms cake was a big hit…a two
layer red velvet Thunder cake!
“I would describe our
wedding as romantic
and lovely. It went by
so quickly and smoothly. It was better
than I expected and it will be one of our
greatest memories“.
