Maximize your child’s chances for the

GEP

Should they or should they not?

MOE identifies intellectually gifted students via the GEP tests in Primary 3. Selected students will enter the GEP programme in Primary 4, where the

potential of each intellectually gifted student is recognised, nurtured and developed.

While it is a fact that not every child will enter, or is suitable for, the GEP programme, the learning of high-ability kids can be enhanced through an

enriched curriculum.

This June Holidays, our GEP workshop aims to promote in your child a love of the English language as they acquire a range of critical language skills

which will benefit them in their education journey. They will also gain a crash course on the basic Math Olympiad-type concepts required, as well as

other general ability skills.

We hope that by the end of the course, our students would be also be armed with a range of skill sets required in the upper primary syllabus and

beyond, giving them a competitive edge over their peers!

English (3 days)

Longer comprehension Texts and Questions

More extensive upper primary vocabulary

Higher-order cloze reading passages

Knowledge of Word Classes

English R* Puzzles and Pattern Manipulation Exercises

Discussion of Current Affair topics

Learning about Point of Views

General Ability (1 day)

Word Analogies

3D Spatial and visualization problems

Logic problems

The 4 day programme will expose your child to a wide range of higher-order thinking skills

Teacher Faith graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Arts and a

Diploma in Education and also holds a professional cert from

the London Guildhall School of Drama.

She has been teaching Primary and Secondary school

students for more than two decades and uses her own PAC

approach in her fun-filled classes which focus on 3 major

elements: Participation, Active Learning and Critical Thinking.

She also pursued her studies in the Orton-Gillingham

Approach, a multisensory, direct and structured approach to

help dyslexic learners.

She hopes her students will persevere and be inspired by

Thomas Edison. "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The

most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more

time."

Achieve Inner Peace for

PSLE MATHS

Ms Ng graduated with a Masters in

Applied Mathematics from Harvard

University. In spite of being vastly over

qualified, she chose to follow her

passion for teaching. Her genius can be

best appreciated in how efficiently she

distils complicated topics into simple

conceptual building blocks that are

rapidly understood and assimilated by

students. She has been teaching for

almost a decade. Past students have not

only improved significantly within a few

months, most have even declared that

Math has become their favourite subject!

Is your child struggling with math word problems?

Does your child know some basic methods but fail to apply them

correctly to the question?

Is your child confused by which method to use in the first place?

Is your child missing out on AL1 because of two difficult questions

in the math paper?

The Issue: After attempting the past year PSLE questions, most

parents will agree that material in the textbook is insufficient to

prepare your child for PSLE word problems.

While textbooks are perfect for introducing the basics of whole

numbers, fractions, ratio and percentage, they do not teach how to

identify and classify types of PSLE word problems, and match with

the correct answering technique.

Unfortunately, these key techniques are inconsistently covered in

the schools, due to many factors such as lack of time to pursue

depth and breadth of topics.

Every year, there are complains that there

are some overly-difficult PSLE questions.

The reality is that they are at most non-

routine or Math Olympiad-type questions of

average difficulty.

Come join this class and learn to tackle all

these questions efficiently!

The Solution:

This PSLE Problem Solving Bootcamp covers essential techniques required to solve Paper 2 word

problems. Ms Ng has specially curated an ultimate toolbox of strategies and techniques to tackle

even the most tricky questions in a systematic manner, and capture every single precious method

mark. A short mnemonic allows students to summon their techniques menu quickly and effortlessly

during the exam. Additionally, students learn how to spot keywords and unique characteristics of

questions, so that they can confidently classify the problem and apply the appropriate technique

almost reflexively.

An exquisite selection of villainous questions from past year top schools’ preliminary papers are then

presented for students to consolidate their learning, and flex their mighty toolkit muscles.

Going beyond exam prep, Ms Ng teaches from first principles. Understanding how each technique

works allows students to adapt the technique as required, and apply it to infinite variations of the

same type of word problem.

BONUS content: Detailed coverage of common sources of confusion: Area, Circles, Patterns and

Speed.

Prerequisite: The desire to perfect your word problem solving kung-fu, and willingness to look at

problems from different points of view.

PSLE & Lower BlockScience

Quest for Answers in PSLE Science

A two-day workshop for students to find out for themselves the

answers to past year PSLE questions through experiments and

develop their own questions.

Students will be taught answering techniques and compare their

answers with their peers.

At the end of the workshop, they should be able to focus on the

requirements of each question and refine their own answer.Mr Beh brings his unique insights into the

intricacies of primary school science,

generously sharing his invaluable experience

as a HOD in Science, and also as a

Supervisor of Marking in PSLE.

His stellar career includes setting up an

education centre, and being an Editor with

Young Scientist Magazine. Mr Beh’s success

lies in his sincerity in helping his students

develop true understanding of scientific

concepts, and appreciating the application of

knowledge when tackling exam question.

Additionally, he believes students learn

through asking good questions. He ignites

their curiosity and brings their scientific

questions to life with hands-on experiments

Ultimately, he challenges his students to true

mastery, by formulating their own questions,

and even improving questions encountered

in books and examination papers..

Quest for Fun Learning in Physical Science

A 5-day workshop for P3/P4 students to learn concepts in topics such as

Matter, Light and Shadows, Heat and Magnets. Students will learn

concepts through hands on experiments and formulate their own questions

for their peers.

Don’t miss this rare

opportunity to learn PSLE

Science techniques from a

popular and experienced

teacher.

Ms Yeo graduated from NUS with a

Bachelor of Social Sciences in

Psychology (Honours) and was a

Teaching Award holder. She considers

herself a late bloomer in Math and

thus, has a special place in her heart

for struggling Math learners. You’ll

often find her nose buried in a book

and her love for the language has

enabled her to build up a repertoire of

mnemonics and catch phrases, even

using poetry (!) to help students

commit Mathematical concepts to

memory. She loves physical activity

and spends lots of time in nature as

she believes in the value of exercise

and fresh air for a clear mind to teach

and learn together with the students

under her charge.

Let’s make a run for

P4/5 MATHS

The P4 and P5 workshops will cover both

width and depth of the topics taught in first

semester.

Students will get to practice solving a variety

of basic and advanced math problems to

reinforce and put into practice their

conceptual understandings with both speed

and accuracy. This would include the

exposure to exam style questions in

preparation of the final year examinations.

The workshops will conclude with the

conduct of an exam style simulation of a mini

weighted assessment to foster familiarity with

exam format and the different methods of

solutions for problem solving.

These sessions are useful for

P4/5 students (separate

sessions) who need that extra

help to ace their upcoming year

end exams.
