Pedro Nieto welcomed the participants and introduced professor Guido Stein, who lead a lively case discussion around the topic of career management. The case highlighted the importance of cultural awareness within a corporation, particularly when shifting from an international subsidiary to headquarters. As one Human Resource Director of a Spanish Multinational commented: “The case discussion was interesting and relevant. Many expat assignments have suboptimal results for both the company and the employee. Most people are aware that moving to a different country requires cultural awareness, but we underestimate the cultural differences within the corporate culture of the same companies. Employees might thrive in one setting but less so in another. Reality is often viewed and lived differently in headquarters and subsidiaries. There are many factors that are often overlooked.” After the case discussion, enjoyed extensive networking during a cocktail.
