LSU validated learning: later that day

This took 15 minutes of my timeSo, what is the next question and rapid test?

Was reading Adams stats book today, "Accept the null hypothesis at the given significance level." Our test indicates that adding Dan’s video did not improve the conversions for the program. See image attached for visual, group A did not see the video (X1, N1) while group B did see the video (X2, N2).

X1 = 746X2 = 720N1 = 61727N2 = 60584

H0: p1 = p2H1: p1 != p2significance level = 0.05

Test: two-sided z-testZ_obs (observed value) = 0.3232p value = 0.7465Conclusion: Accept the null hypothesis at the given significance level.

LSU validated learning exampleDan to Sarah: The description looks really great. Derek wants to know if you can get our promotional video on the website, too. Also, I wouldn’t mind tweaking the intro on the programs page. A small tweak. An A/B test would be cool!

Sarah to Dan: I think it looks great too — thanks for rewriting it, and your intro has been updated. We can definitely embed the video, similar to how Nursing has theirs, below the description — it's been testing really well. How would you like to A/B test it? With and without the video?

D to S: I guess I was thinking of an A/B test for the old intro and new intro. But, with video and without video is an excellent idea, as well. What do you think?

S to D: Talking with our programming gurus, my suggestion is that we test whether the description with the video leads to more or less conversions (or if it has a meaningful impact.) Conversions here are defined as Requests for Information. Does that make sense?

D to S: Makes sense…

D to S: OK — I'll have that running by the end of the day, and can follow up with results in a week or two.

Result: 300% increase in RFI’s!!! (kidding)

Page 53: open2012-developing-unique-technology-entrepreneurship-management-program

LSU validated learning: 1 month later

Sarah to Dan: Looking at our analytics I see that the video received 75 plays last month (which is great) and the degree description page saw an increase of 10 seconds for time on page. I can follow up with you Monday with more data.

Sarah to ASU Online development team: Perhaps I've not had enough coffee yet, but what's the best way for me to answer him? Did we A/B test the video within the copy and outside of it? Has the performance of the degree description improved at all? If I'm reading it correctly, it looks like time-on-page has increased by 10 seconds (comparing Oct 15-Nov 15 and Nov 15-Dec 15) but the bounce rate is way up … John, what would you recommend I send in the way of data?

ASU Online dev team to Sarah: Tell him the video received 75 plays last month and contributed to conversions. Not sure if we ran an A/B test. Mike is looking into it.

Dan to Sarah: Did this ever happen? If so, have there been any results? I would be interested in them, no matter what they are. I have a meeting tomorrow with Mitzi, Chell and Mary and would like to describe the process.
