Abstract
Tourism is the global economy industry in India with its past history, heritage & culture of
each state and contributes 6.6% of India’s GDP & employment generation. Community based
tourism (CBT) is a community development tool that nourish the ability of rural or tribal
communities to direct tourism resources & substantiate local communities participate to it.
CBT focuses on developing local community through tourism.
This research focuses on the development of CBT in the Balodabazar District, Chhattisgarh.
The study will include the various tourist destination at the district, identification of
problems, challenges faced by local people & tourists, infrastructure development based on
parameters achieved and Community involvement. The outcome will be recommendation for
enhanced infrastructure development and proposal for enhanced connectivity circuit among
tourist destinations.

I.INTRODUCTION Tourism is the movement of tourists from one place to another place for leisure or other
purpose.Tourism involves various activities, services & facilities required for basic holiday.
The World Travel and Tourism Council calculated that tourism generated 6.4% of the
nation’s GDP in 2011. It was responsible for 7.9% of total employment. The GDP of the
tourism sector has expanded 229% between 1990 and 2011.
In 2011 forecast the World Travel and Tourism Council predicted the annual growth to be
8.8% between 2011 and 2021. As a result India’s rank is 5th
among the nations for fastest
growing tourism industry. India has major medical tourism industry, which is increasing 30%
every year.Tourism development deals with the connectivity, development of circuits &
infrastructure of the tourist destinations.Chhattisgarh has various historical background, art &
crafts and majority of people are tribals having their own traditional & unique style of living
and handicraft.
Aim & Objective – The aim is to analyze & enhance the opportunities for community based
tourism in Balodabazar region in chhattisgarh.
The objectives are :
• Toidentifythepotentialtouristdestination&itsconnectivityinthedistrict.
• Tostudythebasicprinciples,policies&guidelinesrelatedtoCommunitybasedtourism.
• Optimum utilization of tourist resources in order to attract maximum no. of domestic &
international tourists.
• Tostudytheexistinginfrastructure&managementoftouristspotsaccordingtoWTTCindex.
• Toidentifythegaps&constraintsforproposalofpotentialtourism.
• Toimprovesocio-economiccultureoflocalcommunity&people,empowerment of
tribalwomen.

Scope of the study – The scope of the thesis is to study the principles, guidelines & policies
related to Community based tourism and potential tourist destination in Balodabazar district
and development based on parameters achieved.
Research Methodology - A quanti
paper. The secondary data collection of tourist destinations & its infrastructure and facilities
have been collected through books, journals, census handbooks & Balodabazar district
tourism website. The primary data collection of tourist destination and its existing
infrastructure is being collected by conducting tourism survey, community survey, meetings
with government officials and the data obtained is analyzed by factor analysis, through GIS,
SWOT analysis.
Literature Review - Community based tourism (CBT) acts as a poverty reduction tool.The
principles of Community Based Tourism are: To acknowledge, assist and encourage
community ownership of tourism; Involving local community from the starti

Chhattisgarh shares 12% of Total forest cover in India. The state consists of plateaus with
Satpura range within the north, river Mahanadi and its tributaries within the central plains and
flushed with various natural beauties that has possibility of Tourism development.

Domestic Tourist Data: There is gradual increase in domestic tourist from year 2011 to 2015,
with the growth coming at annual increase rate of 14.35%. Also, annual growth rate has been
decreased - 26.0% inyear 2016 to 2017.
Foreigner Tourist Data:There has been increasing & decreasing number of foreigner tourists
between years 2011-2014. The annual increase rate of 18.2% & drop in 2013 anda 100% rise

III. Experiment and Result
Issues:
- There is lack of connectivity & accessibility to tourist destination.
- There is lack of parking area at tourist spot & poor quality of road.
- There is lack of brand promotion of state tourism.
- There is lack of ATM, signage, restaurant, security services, public toilet etc.
- To identify the constraints and challenges and give development proposals.
- There is ack of accommodation facilities & management.
- There is no tourism policy initiated in the state.
- There is lack of local tribal exhibitions & markets for promotion of handicrafts.
- Lack of tourist operators & tourist guides, tourism employment generation.
- Most of the destinations are undevelopedas government funds is very less for tourism in
the district.
- There is lack of information about any tourist destination.
- Tourist spots needs to be developed in terms of basic facilities for tourist.
