Anderson Aquatic Center is open to the public on a year-round basis. The facility features a heated Olympic-size swimming pool with diving board and tube slide. There is also a cardiovascular workout room with treadmills, cross trainers, step machines, nautilus, universal weights, and a private party room that can be reserved for special occasions. Special programs are offered including water aerobics, aquacize, swim lessons and lap swimming. Red Cross certified lifeguards are on duty at all times maintaining a high degree of safety for all pool users.
Aquatic exercise is becoming increasingly popular as water has been found to be ideal for muscle toning, is soothing and increases stamina, strength, flexibility and endurance. Water provides a gentle resistance to movement and supports the body while it moves, which makes it safer and more comfortable. It is particularly beneficial for people that have weight or joint problems, or are disabled in some way. Any exercise in water is smoother and more relaxing than land exercise.
Several aerobic classes are available for all fitness levels. Aquacize, held Monday through Friday from, 9:55 AM to 10:55 AM is a high energy, low impact workout for all fitness levels. For more intense workout options there is Aqua Express, Deep Water Aerobics for experienced aquacisers, and Aqua Body
Sculpting with equipment used for body toning and creating lean muscles. The first aerobic class is free of charge. Passes are available for those who participate in aerobics on a regular basis.
Lap swimming at Anderson is available from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM. and from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Lap swimming is also available at Gammon Physical Fitness Center’s indoor pool from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Lap swimming for active military is free of charge. Swimmers age 11 or younger must be accompanied by someone age 16 or older.
Anderson also offers year-round swim lessons. Group and private lessons are planned for each month. Information on swim lessons is posted on Anderson’s web page at www.knoxmwr.com. There is no additional charge for the use of Anderson’s cardiovascular workout equipment. A responsible adult must accompany those age 12 to age 17. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed in the cardiovascular workout room.
For information on Anderson and Gammon pool operating hours, fees for aquatic activities, class schedules and reservation for pool or party room, telephone Anderson Aquatic Center at (502) 624-6217, or Gammon Physical Fitness Center pool at (502) 624-4033.

The benefits of aerobic exercise are well known to all. Scientists and researchers all over the world repeat it at every opportunity. Aerobic exercise is physical exercise that refers to the use of oxygen in the body’s metabolic or energy-generating process.
Recognized benefits of doing regular aerobic exercise include strengthening muscles throughout the body; improving circulation efficiency; reducing blood pressure; strengthening and enlarging the heart muscle to improve its’ pumping efficiency; reducing the risk of diabetes; weight loss; improving mental health, including decreasing stress and lowering the incidence of depression.
“With the winter months approaching people tend to reduce their physical activity that often affects their overall well being and lowers their resistance to many physical ailments. Regardless of age, weight,
or athletic ability, aerobic exercise is good for you. At Gammon, we offer a wide range of aerobic exercise programs that will result in individuals remaining active, fit, and healthy. Also available at Gammon is our Certified Personal Trainer Program that will, “help in meeting weight loss goals, personal goals, fitness goals, and accelerate the healing process for those who may have prior injuries”, said Jennifer McCollum, CPT, Physical Fitness Trainer at Gammon.
Gammon Physical Fitness Center is open to active, retired military, DoD civilan workers and DoD contractors and their family members age and older.
Gammon Physical Fitness Center also maintains a staff of seven certified Personal Trainers. They are available to help people meet their fitness and wellness goals with programs that include personal training, workout routines, and nutritional guidance as well as equipment orientation. Indiviuals are shown proper set up for using cardio equipment, free weights and nautilus machines. Personal Trainers also design workout routines for personal goals, provide flexibility training for proper muscle stretching and body composition assessment by accessing body fat percentage. Using this information, your Personal Trainer will determine ways to maintain or achieve a healthy range of body fat.

Holiday Traditions include the smell of hot
apple cider and the sound of Santa and his
sled joined by local carolers. The glowing light
of a Christmas Tree is a tell tale sign that the
Holiday Season is upon us.
Christmas Tree LightingThis is what you will experience at the 2010
Community Tree Lighting Ceremony at Brooks
Field Gazebo as the Fort Knox Community throws
the switch on the post Christmas Tree. The
Fort Knox Family and MWR Team will conduct
the ceremony on Thursday, December 3 at
5:30 PM and are inviting the entire community
to participate in the celebration.
The ceremony with lights and a musical
performance by the 113th Army Band followed
by an introduction of LTG Freakley who will
provide remarks on the fallen Soldiers who
were stationed at Fort Knox. The Girl Scout,
Brownie Choral Group and the Fort Knox High
School Chorus will take the stage at 6:00 PM as
Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus join the celebration
via Christmas Carriage provided by Around
The Town Carriage. For children there will
be cookies and candy canes available. Hot
chocolate and hot apple cider will also be
served. At approximately 6:20 PM, just before
the official lighting of the Fort Knox Community

Tree, an official holiday greeting and grateful
acknowledgement of the kindness that has
been extended to Soldiers by the Christmas
Foundation will be conveyed to the community.
This year’s celebration is sponsored by
Sprint. The Fort Knox Family and MWR team
would also like to extend a thank you to the
organizations that continue to help support
our Soldier and Families.
Trees for TroopsImmediately following the Tree Lighting
Ceremony, active duty Soldiers and their Families
can visit the Trees for Troops tree lot to pick
up a FREE live Christmas Tree. Six hundred
Christmas Trees will be donated by the Christmas
Spirit Foundation and delivered to Fort Knox by
the Federal Express Corporation. The Christmas
Spirit Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable
organization that is committed to keeping the
spirit of Christmas alive and for growing memories
for the next generation of children and families.
Soldiers and their Families are urged to pick
their tree at the parking lots on the south side
of the Leaders Club after the conclusion of the
Community Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Trees for
Troops lot will be open until 8:00 PM that evening.
Volunteers from Army Community Services will
be at the lot helping to select a tree and giving
trees a “fresh cut”. Trees will be available at the
same location on Friday, December 3.
Trees for Troops is a program that honors Military men
and women and their Families by providing them with a
real Christmas Tree for the holiday season. Christmas
Tree farmers from more than 750 farms and a number
of retailers donated these trees to the organization.
FEDEX then drives/flies an estimated 51,000 miles
to deliver to 40 U.S. bases and 17 countries. Since
2005, The Christmas Spirit Foundation has delivered
more than 67,000 trees to families. FEDEX has also
touched lives as they have driven more than 221,618
miles since 2005 making sure each Military Family
received a live Christmas Tree.
Take the opportunity to visit www.treesfortroops.
org and leave a message for troops, or make
a donation online to The Christmas Spirit
Foundation. Then put on your winter coat and
hat and join the Family and MWR team to kick off
the holiday season at this great event.

Lighting Ceremony contact Tammi Metcalf at
