Fort Knox Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will be presenting their Blues Fest on September 12, 2015 at the EastmanPark Amphitheater beginning at 3 p.m. ThisFamily fun atmosphere is FREE & OPEN TOTHE PUBLIC and will showcase the incredibletalent of Toronzo Cannon, Edward David Anderson, Jarekus Singleton and the NickSchnebelen Band.

Toronzo Cannon grew up listening to soulfullegends like Junior Wells, Buddy Guy andMuddy Waters. It wasnt just the music thatgot me, but the effect on the people. Inspiration from Freddie, B.B and Albert, a little Hendrix and some 70s R&B/Soul led himto develop his own powerful, gospel-flavoredvocal style and electrifying stage presence. His second and most recent CD release,John the Conquer Root has been nominated for a Blues Music Award in Memphis for Best Rock/Blues CD, and inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2013.

Edward David Anderson is an artist as ancient as he is modern. In atime when the music business desperately flails about, grasping atany new trend that will save its sinking ship, he exists far outside itsconfines. Best known for his work with the revered Midwestern rockband Backyard Tire Fire who released a string of acclaimed albumsin the previous decade, Anderson returns to the national stage withhis highly anticipated solo debut, Lies & Wishes. Produced by LosLobos Steve Berlin, it finds Anderson creating his own mythologythrough a collection of songs that embrace vulnerability, while remaining grounded in his working class roots.

Jackson, Mississippis award-winning guitarist, vocalist and song-writer, 29-year-old Jarekus Singleton, is one of the brightest, most

exciting young stars on theblues scene today. His cutting-edge, streetwise music meld-ing contemporary andtraditional blues with rock energy and hip-hop wordplay turns audiences of all ages intodevoted fans. With his blazingguitar licks and strong, soulfulvoice, Singleton brings his up-to-the-minute take on theblues to every song he writesand performs. From ferociousand funky, to slow and steamy,to smoking hot, Singleton is ayoung blues master carrying theblues into the future.

Slick Nick Schnebelen is a well-known Kansas City based rootsand blues influenced artist. As the lead guitarist, majority songwriter, and co-vocalist of the band Trampled Under Foot, Nick established himself as a heavy weight contender in the Blues, Roots

and Americana worlds of music. A multi-in-strumentalist, Nick combines drums, guitarand singing to make for a great show.

In addition to the soulful sounds of live blues, there will also be a variety of Family style activities available. Inflatables will be on sitefor the little ones to enjoy, as well as a largeblues themed art mural for them to color.Food, beverages, snacks and beer will beavailable for purchase.

If youre interested in a little competition, adouble elimination corn hole tournament willbe held at 5 pm. Thirty-two teams of two willcompete to win cash prizes. 1st place is $300,2nd place is $200 and 3rd place is $100; andits only $20 per team to register.

Adults and children alike benefit from outdoor physical activity. Participating in sports and recreation provides people of all ages with an opportunity to meet and build relationships with others. We all benefit from relaxation andplay. Playfulness is built into our biology. And when parentsand children recreate together, social bonds are improved.

For children, play is more than just a way of having fun. Itsalso a way of experimenting and trying new things: of testingthemselves and expanding their limits, of training musclesand developing minds. Play is also a way of learning how tolive together: of learning how to compete and cooperate, tomake friends and acquire social skills. Yes, play is fun but forchildren, its also an integral part of learning and growing.

Adults benefit from play, and the many benefits can be summarized in the word recreation, or re-create. Withrecreation and play we re-create, refresh, and revitalize ourselves. We speed our recovery from work and stress, reduce painful emotions and foster feelings of happiness and joy.

In our hectic, modern lives, many of us focus so heavily onwork and family commitments that we never seem to havetime for pure fun. Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, weve stopped playing. When we do carve out

some leisure time, we're more likely to zone out in front ofthe TV or computer than engage in fun, rejuvenating play likewe did as children. But just because were adults, that doesn't mean we have to take ourselves so seriously andmake life all about work. We all need to play.

Fort Knox Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation is yourticket to recreate through recreation. CYSS provides an abun-dance of recreational opportunities for kids. Activities rangefrom music classes with SKIES Unlimited to football withyouth sports. Parents can also get involved as volunteercoaches. Fort Knox Adventure Programs provides the opportunity to experience a wide range of outdoor recreation from white water rafting, to backpacking, to caving. The four fitness centers allow individuals to exerciseand relieve stress while building the body. Anderson Pooland the Water Park provide a playful aquatic experience.Equipment Check Out has everything you need for a greatFamily or Unit outing. Camp Carlson is an outdoor experi-ence you cannot miss. Warrior Adventure Quest is an Armywide program designed to help Soldiers deal with stressorsin their post deployment, and day to day lives. The program introduces Soldiers to outdoor recreation activities as a wayto relieve stress. The program is free to Units and is conducted during normal duty hours.

Here are just a few reasons to get out and play: to learn, tocreate, to feel challenged, to calm and focus ourselves, tofeel better, to improve health, and for the fun and joy of it.See you soon at an FMWR activity, program, facility, or event.
