• Access Client Support. The latest Oracle 11g access clients has been utilized to connect to the RDBMS. The management GUI connects to the RDBMS through the Oracle 11g

JDBC library. Client access is backward compatible to an Oracle 10g RDBMS.

• RDBMS Migration. The RDBMS has been upgraded through standard RDBMS upgrade procedures.

• Installation. Full NCC packages install into an Oracle 11g RDBMS.

NCC 5.0.0 enhances the VWS architecture to allow scalability on multi-core multi-threaded hardware.

VWS Scalability

• Upgrading: Automatic configuration update. All data and configuration that has changed as a result of new functionality has been migrated automatically as part of the patch configuration.

• Upgrading: Processing availability. It is possible to upgrade a single node (SMS, SLC or VWS) at a time without impacting the overall session and event processing availability of the system. It is accepted that sessions in progress on a single SLC node when it is upgraded will be interrupted and will not be explicitly charged.

• Upgrading: Maintain reservations. It is possible to upgrade a VWS pair with minimum loss of ongoing reservations. It is accepted that reservations created and updated in the few seconds prior to a VWS shutdown may be lost.

• Simplifying SLEE interface configuration. The SLEE has been enhanced to enable multiple instances of supported interfaces to start automatically based off a single slee.cfg INTERFACE configuration entry. Supported interfaces can maintain an individual log file per instance. The BeClient, BeServer, BeVWARS, BeSync and BeGroveller interfaces

have been enhanced to support the single SLEE configuration entry start mechanism.

All VWS processes running in a single SLEE utilize a single eserv.config configuration file.

• beServer scalability. The beServer has been enhanced to scale on multi-core and multi-threaded hardware in order not to not restrict messaging throughput. The existing failover capabilities of the SLC to VWS communications has

been maintained. A session started on the primary VWS server can fail over to the secondary if primary communication is lost, and will fail back if the secondary communication is later lost.

• beSync scalability. The beServer will scale on multi-core and multi-threaded hardware to not restrict messaging throughput. There may have many simultaneous sync connections between a pair of VWSs.

• Modification with a single restart without reservation loss. It shall be possible to modify the number of Server and Sync instances on a VWS pair with a single non-overlapping SLEE restart per node, with the majority of ongoing reservations maintained over the restarts.

• Automatic connection management with simple configuration. The management of the multiple VWS client and sync connections is automatically managed by the system. The only required user intervention is the setting of the appropriate SLEE configuration and the restarting of the SLEEs to utilize the configuration.

• Automatic wallet and bucket checking. To ensure that any required actions are carried out, the VWS beGroveller has been enhanced to trigger wallets with expired buckets AND all wallets not accessed in the previous 24 hours OR trigger all wallets once a day. The behavior is configurable, and shall default to Expiry and Not Accessed triggering.

Release Notes Page 3

Page 4: Oracle Communications Network Charging and Control Release ... · On importing a control plan, the control plan editor will pre-validate each node in the control plan and clearly

Release Notes, Continued

The triggering of unused wallets shall occur from a configurable starting time.

The beGroveller can be prevented from triggering wallets with expired buckets during peak periods by having optional configurable exclusion periods.

• MFile notification and loading. When a new MFile is created (Rating or Named Event Catalogue), a single message is generated and sent to a single beServer, which isl then send it on to all beVWARS processes. The beServer does not load the MFile.

• Maintain throttling capabilities. The throttling capabilities of the SLC to VWS communications has been maintained.

• beSync Domain ID. The beSyncs log and maintain their sync transactions by Domain ID.

NCC 5.0.0 continues the legal rebranding requirements, removing eServGlobal references from Internal and IT side interfaces, and alignment with Marketing names and terminology.

OC Branding

• Web Services WSDL Namespace Update - All references to "eServGlobal" in the OSD generated WSDLs and referenced namespaces have been replaced with "Oracle Communications" or "OCNCC"

• “eServGlobal” has been removed from all configuration files, example configuration files shipped in full packages, all reports and report generation scripts. Any occurrences of eServGlobal has been replaced with “Oracle Communications”.

• The “PromoMaxExpress” report has been renamed to “Promotion Manager” • All references to UBE, BE or E2BE in the Report Selection tab of the report

functions have been changed to “VWS”. • All occurrences of “Product Catalogue” in the screens, Control Plan Editor,

nodes, help and documentation has been updated to “Named Event Catalogue”.

• All occurrences of “Billable Event” in the screens, Control Plan Editor, nodes, help and documentation have been updated to “Named Event”.

• All occurrences of “Billing Period” in the screens, help and documentation have been updated to “Charge Period”.

NCC 5.0.0 enhances Promotion Manager with the concept of "Manually Managed Limited Liability", where the limit is a configurable balance type that can be updated and reset as per any standard balance type. Allowing additional channels and references to be defined on which to base promotions, and allowing promotions to extend the expiry date of wallets.

Promotion Manager

Prior to Promotion Manager being conceived there was functionality that was referred to as "Limited Liability Bonuses". This functionality was configured through eserv.config, and is in use in production at various customer sites.

Unfortunately, this pre-existing functionality was missed when designing Promotion Manager, and so it was not considered for functionality and migration. This means that customers using the Limited Liability Bonus functionality cannot activate Promotion Manager, as it would mean that all these Limited Liability Bonuses would cease to work.

• A promotion definition is able to extend a wallet expiration date. • A custom promotional channel may be defined with the promotion manager

management screens. Additionally, if the channel within the promotion is defined as “Any” then the promotion may optionally be restricted for eligibility through the Reference definition.

Release Notes Page 4

Page 5: Oracle Communications Network Charging and Control Release ... · On importing a control plan, the control plan editor will pre-validate each node in the control plan and clearly

Release Notes, Continued

• It is possible to define a “manually limited liability” promotion, where the limit is enforced by the presence of a separate unit balance in the subscriber’s wallet. As it is a manually managed limit, there is no automatic renewal of the limit, nor shall there be any global maximum specified for the limit.

• It is possible to restrict a promotion based on a Reference when "Any" Channel is selected.

• It is possible to define new channels to be used in Promotions. The new channel is stored and usable in other promotion definitions in the future.

• It is possible to extend a wallets expiry with a promotion. • It is possible to display the number of promotion applications available to the

subscriber for a specific promotion in an SPM component. • It is possible to define a Manually limited liability promotion, where the limit is

enforced by the presence of a separate unit balance in the subscribers wallet. As it is a manually managed limit, there is no automatic renewal of the limit, nor shall there be any maximum specified for the limit.

• When migrating a Bonus that rewards a Voucher Type, the Wallet Expiry Extension is also migrated.

• When migrating a pre-Promotion Manager Limited Liability Bonus to a Manually Limited Promotion, the Reload Counter value (-1) is be migrated.

NCC 5.0.0 provides enhancements to the control plan editor designed to improve the usability of one of the most important assets of the Network Charging & Control product. By streamlining the key workflows performed by users, we are able to pass on considerable operational savings to customers by ensuring their users are able to efficiently operate and manage the product.

Control Plan Editor Enhancements

• Canvas Search. Find an instance of a feature node in a control plan. • Context Switching. Allowing user to switching between multiple open control

plans. • Control Plan Readability. Improving the readability of control plans. • Palette Search. The user is able to search the control plan editor palette for

feature nodes matching criteria specified by the user. • Canvas Search. The user is able to live search the control plan editor canvas

for feature nodes or notes matching criteria specified by the user through a single search box on the menu bar.

• Bubble Help. Control plan bubble help is enabled by default. • Multi-Windows. The user is able to open more than one CPE window at a

time. • Palette Changes. The palette has been updated to make it easier for users to

visually locate feature nodes. • Canvas Changes. Elements on the canvas have been updated to aid in

improving the readability and layout of the canvas. • Control Plan Tracing. The user is able to enter a string containing a node trace

for the currently open control plan (ACS CDR format) and the control plan editor will highlight the path taken through that control plan.

• Accelerated Node Connections. The user can control-drag or similar method to join two nodes. On releasing the mouse button, the user is presented with a menu that allows them to select one or more exits to map from the source node to the target node.

• Inspector Panel. A new inspector panel has been introduced providing summary information about selected nodes in the canvas and a convenient way of navigating between connected nodes on the canvas.

Release Notes Page 5

Page 6: Oracle Communications Network Charging and Control Release ... · On importing a control plan, the control plan editor will pre-validate each node in the control plan and clearly

Release Notes, Continued

• Validation Improvements. A number of validation enhancements have been made in order to pre-empt and prevent common compilation errors rather than the CPE waiting until compile time to notify the user - including: A user will be prevented from connecting a "telephony not allowed" exit to

a node that uses telephony. On importing a control plan, the control plan editor will pre-validate each

node in the control plan and clearly display nodes which need adjustment rather than waiting until compile time to display nodes with errors.

• Junction node. The Junction feature node is used to collect all incoming feature node connections into a single exit point. The usefulness is being able to position this node in a strategic position to move connection lines clear of other nodes, thus making it easier to see what the control plan is doing.

The associated features cover requirements for standard support of simple and traditional Chinese character sets plus the generic ability to extend NCC with additional multi-byte UTF8 character sets.

International-ization Support

• Multi-byte UTF8 translation. All NCC screens support labels translated to UTF8 with up to four byte character sets as supported by Java 1.6.

NCC 5.0.0 introduces the ability to make corrections to data in the VWS that is inconsistent with the schema and business rules of the platform. In line with the overall requirement of achieving carrier-grade availability, such corrections must be possible without causing an outage, that is, the changes must be possible through the APIs of the VWS without the need to stop VWS processes (allowing direct SQL changes).

VWS correction

• Active Corrections - A process has been provided that allows the operator to alter individual parameters of the wallet, balance and bucket objects hosted by a VWS pair without the need to bring down either node in the pair.

• Suppress Business Logic - All business logic (either embedded or provided through plug-ins) will be suppressed when corrections are made by the new process.

• Batch Input - The process will provide the ability to handle a batch file of corrections.

• Synchronization - The process will ensure the corrections are made to both nodes in the applicable VWS pair.

Known Problems All database instances on NCC nodes should be created with the AL32UTF8 character set. An issue in the beBe package installation is causing the database instance on VWS nodes to be created with the US7ASCII character set instead. SMS and SLC nodes are not affected. For more information and solutions for this issue please refer to My Oracle Support (https://support.us.oracle.com) document "Database Instance on VWS Nodes Created with Incorrect Character Set after OCNCC 5.0 Installation (Doc ID 1522076.1)".
