Glimpse at the 13 Colonies

Directions: Today in class, you will learn a little bit about the colonies of Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Georgia. (Southern colonies) To learn about Pennsylvania, you will read and mark up the “William the Wise” reading. For Virginia, you will read p. 45 in the HA!, and for Georgia, you will read p. 46.

Note #1: Notice that Georgia is settled much later than other colonies. For example, while you know Virginia started with Jamestown in 1607 and the other colonies are created by the middle or late 1600s, Georgia isn’t started until 1732. Note #2: Be on the look out for similarities and differences between the colonies--in terms of who lived there, who was in charge, who was welcome, who was in power, etc. Those are the kinds of things that could show up on the quiz.

Then: Once you have read about each colony, you have to record the 4 key facts for each one. Your facts can only be one sentence long each (must be in complete sentences), so you have to think carefully about what you want to say and how. Pennsylvania:
