OSSA SCHOOLS SPECTACULAR

Cumnock students walked like Egyptians and danced Gangnam

Style at the OSSA School Spectacular over two days this week. It has

been an amazing production in the making and a logistical

nightmare for many of our parents, and we appreciate your

understanding and support. Ange Galbraith has been the driving

force for our dance choreography along with Kacie Herd and all our

parents who spent each evening with a makeup bag in hand.

CONRATULATIONS to all the OSSA schools for this production and to

our students for their awesome dance routines committed to

memory! Thanks again to Mrs Dwyer for her school and costume

organisation of this spectacular event!

SCHOOL CAPTAINS SPEECHES

Our Year 5 students will deliver their prepared speeches for Captaincy at the Special Assembly

starting at 9am on Friday 29th November in the school Library. We thank these students for their

dedication to lead our school in 2020 and wish each of them every success as they prepare to

address the school community. Thank you to those who have been supporting students to

prepare for this occasion and we look forward to your attendance at this special Assembly.

BREAKFAST MURAL TAKING SHAPE

Mrs Flick and Mrs Brodie have tackled the massive Breakfast

Mural Project this term and it is starting to look great! Thank you

to our senior students who have been helping complete the

detailed painting works of these breakfast characters designed

by our students. We are looking forward to the finished result in

preparation for our Presentation evening on 10th December.

CONGRATULATIONS MISS RIVERS

Miss Rivers was absolutely thrilled to receive notification of her Proficient Teacher accreditation

last week. Miss Rivers has worked extremely hard documenting, recording and completing the

necessary paperwork and we are proud of her achievement! Well done Miss Rivers!

BOTTLE COLLECTION AT THE GENERAL STORE

We would like to thank Peg and Paula Rudd from the Cumnock General Store for collecting

bottles and cans on our behalf to raise funds for the 2020 Stage 3 Canberra Excursion. All

recyclable bottles and cans delivered help to supplement the cost of the excursion next year for

each and every student. A massive $300 has already been raised from this worthwhile activity.

PLEASE SUPPORT our recycling efforts!!

WELL DONE MRS ALLCORN

We were delighted to receive notification that Mrs Allcorn was selected to commence the

Diploma in Leadership and Management course in partnership with the University of New

England over a two year period of study. There were a limited number of administrative

managers accepted across the state for this course. We appreciate the extra miles that our staff

undertake to build on their professional learning capabilities. Good luck and congratulations Mrs

Allcorn!

REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE

Our Year 6 leaders are to be congratulated on leading

this year’s school service to commemorate

Remembrance Day. The whole school gathered to

remember the fallen with poems, stories, the Ode of

Remembrance and at the conclusion of the

ceremony, stood in silence, as they reflected on those

who died or suffered for Australia’s cause in all wars

and armed conflicts. Thank you to Mrs Hubbard for her

support and organisation for this moving service.

STEM RETURNS TO CUMNOCK

Students were literally blown away for our first foray into STEM classes which started this term! A

massive thanks to Mr West for organising the groups, preparing the STEM activities and

coordinating the event across the school. There were some very interesting aeronautical kites

assembled and modified as students were challenged to test and adapt their creations on one

of the windiest and dustiest days for the year. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and

Maths) aims to foster inquiring minds, logical reasoning and collaboration skills for students.

Congratulations Mr West for leading this program!

BUSH TO BEACH PRESENTATION

Beach to Bush is a FREE engaging, interactive presentation delivered by experienced and

enthusiastic lifesavers who are on the road visiting schools across rural and regional NSW. The aim

is to improve the beach safety knowledge and awareness among primary school students which

they can then pass onto their families when visiting the coast over the summer.

Be Sun Safe!

Whilst at the beach or outdoors, protect your skin in 5 ways:

Seek shade, especially during peak UV periods (10am-2pm or 11am-3pm during daylight saving).

Wear sun protective clothing that covers as much of your skin as possible, especially your

shoulders, arms and legs.

Apply SPF 30+ broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen 20 minutes before heading outdoors

and then reapply every 2 hours.

Wear a broad brimmed hat that protects the face, neck and ears.

Wear sunglasses that fit the face well and wrap around the sides of your face.

For more information on Sun Safety, visit the Cancer Institute NSW website - www.cancerinstitute.org.au

Surf Life Saving NSW thanks Clubs NSW and Cancer Institute NSW for their ongoing support which

makes this program possible. Thank you Kim and James for your valuable and timely presentation

and for travelling from Newcastle and Port Macquarie to share your insights with us.

CONGRATULATIONS MRS DONNA RILES

Recently, I received a lovely email from Mrs Donna Riles to notify

our school community of her new role as Director with the Orange

Regional Conservatorium. Over the years, Mrs Riles has made

outstanding contributions to our musical and singing programs at

Cumnock Public. Her knowledge, enthusiasm and passion have

been an inspiration to us all and the children, along with the

staff, have thoroughly enjoyed the experiences. We hope to

continue working with the staff of ORC in the future to deepen,

expand and develop high quality music programs in our school

and wish Mrs Riles every success in her new role.

“I am deeply grateful for the relationship I have had with you, your

students, families, staff and wider community over the years I have conducted the program at

Cumnock Public School. The elation I experience each week when greeted at the gate with

‘Hello Mrs Riles’, speaks volumes about the culture of your school, staff and the joy music brings

to the lives of your students. I hope to be able to work with you from time to time as I guide our

Schools Music Team and broaden our offering through workshops, free concerts and

performances by ORC staff, touring Australian artists, by liaising with you about Musica Viva tours,

PD’s, School programs and much more.

Thank you for the honour of teaching in your school.”

All the best Mrs Riles as you embark on your exciting new role leading the Orange Regional

Conservatorium.

JUNIOR CONTEMPORARY SCHOLARSHIP FOR RICHARD BALDWIN

Congratulations to Richard on the wonderful opportunity to study music at the Conservatorium in

2020 and thank you to Mrs Nelson who supported him with the application process.

‘On the 9th November I went to the Orange Regional Conservatorium to perform 2 songs on my

guitar which I had been practising for over 4 weeks. I came out of the audition smiling; knowing

that I had made a number of mistakes, however, I felt proud of myself and so were my parents.

The following week on our way to Sydney, Mum received an email to notify us that I was

successful for a scholarship to the Conservatorium in 2020. I was astonished and elated at the

same time and I really am grateful for the opportunity!’ Richard Baldwin

STOP PRESS!!!! KOALA CAKE STALL ON FRIDAY

Year 5 and 6 held a KOALA CAKE STALL today at recess and lunchtime to raise much needed

funds for the Port Macquarie Koala Sanctuary. Students have been researching the various fire

zones across the eastern seaboard and have been touched by the video footage of the work

by various organisations to support the koalas rescued from several fire grounds. Our donation

will go towards purchasing automatic drinking stations to help surviving wildlife stay hydrated

and to continue the important work to rescue the

koalas and restore their habitat. Well done senior

students!
