ЗБІРКА ЇЖІ ТА ОДЯГУ ДЛЯ БЕЗПРИТУЛЬНИХ

Парафія далі робитиме збірку їжі та одягу для безпритульних. Буде дві коробки: одна для продуктів харчування і друга для одягу.

Просьба жертвувати консервовані продукти та продукти у фабричних упаковках, таких як; рис, макарони, крупи і т. д. Вся їжа має бути не прострочена, або ми змушені будемо її викинути.

Одяг має бути новим, або в доброму стані. На даний час ми збираємо одяг на весну і літо. Також можна жертвувати ковдри і господаські товари. ДУЖЕ ДЯКУЄМО ЗА ПІДТРИМКУ.

Українська організація скаутів «Пласт» проводить інформаційну зустріч для тих, хто зацікавлений у тому, щоб їхні діти брали участь у скаутах. Засідання відбудеться у неділю, 10 березня о 13:00 в Українсько-американському громадському центрі на 301 N. Main St. Minneapolis, MN.

Організація працює з дітьми різного віку, вивчаючи природу, навчаючи ремеслам, розвиває їхній характер, а також підкреслює українську культуру, релігію та мову. Це дуже цінна організація для наших дітей, для їхнього розвиток і ідентифікує їх, як українців.

ВАРЕНИКИ І РИБНІ ОБІДИ.

Український центр відновлює сезон рибних обідів.

П'ятниці – в березні 8, 15, 22, 29 та квітні 5, 12 з 5:30 вечора до 7:30 вечора. Тільки під час великого посту. Смачні вареники, тендітна або запечена риба, жарена картопля, салат з капусти, та десерти - спагетті для дітей. Пиво та вино доступне і також можна взяти з собою. Так що ЗБЕРЕЖІТЬ дати і приходьте.

ТОВАРИСЬКА ЗУСТРІЧ ПІД ЧАС КАВИ.

Ласкаво Запрошуємо всіх після Служби Божої до парафіяльної залі на солодощі, каву і товариство. Так відбуватиметься кожної неділі після Святої Літургії, якщо не буде якихось поминальних чи парафіяльних обідів. Дякуємо всім тим хто готував, або буде готувати цю перекуску.

Нам потрібні добровольці. Сестрицтво має в наявності

тарілки, чашки, столові прилади та серветки. Ми також забезпечуємо каву, чай, вершки, цукор та масло. Добровольцям не потрібно приносити ці речі.

ВЕЛИКИЙ ПІСТ І ЙОГО ЗНАЧЕННЯ

Великий піст - це найважливіший і найдревніший з багатоденних постів, цей час є підготовкою до головного православного свята - Світлого Христового Воскресіння.

Більшість людей сьогодні не мають сумніву в благотворному впливі посту на душу і тіло людини. Піст (правда, як дієту) рекомендують навіть світські лікарі, відмічаючи благотворну дію на організм тимчасовою відмовою від тваринних білків і жирів. Проте, сенс посту зовсім не у тому, щоб схуднути або тілесно підлікуватися. Святитель Феофан Затворник називає піст «періодом спасительного лікування душ, зособом для очищення від усього старого, таємного і брудного».

Піст перед святом Святої Пасхи(чи Свята Чотиридесятниця), називається Великим по особливій важливості його встановлення.

Перші християнські письменики одноголосно свідчать, що Свята Чотиридесятниця встановлена апостолами у наслідування сорокаденного посту Мойсея (Вих., 34 гл.), Іллі

(3 Цар., 19 гл.), а головним чином - Господа Ісуса Христа, що постив в Іудейській пустелі сорок днів (Мф. 4, 2).

Про те, що із самого початку тривалість Великого посту була сорокаденною, ми маємо свідчення, що йдуть від глибокої давнини. Сама назва Св. Чотиридесятниця зустрічається дуже часто у древніх письмових пам'ятках. Святителі Василій Великий і Григорій Ниський стверджують, що Великий піст в їх час існував всюди.

Уже в IV столітті у східних Церквах встановився існуючий і донині порядок дотримання Великого посту: з понеділка (після Тижня сиропусного) до Великої Суботи. Таким чином, Великий піст складається власне з сорока днів посту Чотиридесятниці й Страсної седмиці – «заради спасительних Страстей Христових» (св. Симеон Солунский).

Сам Господь наш Ісус Христос сорок днів постив у пустелі, звідки повернувся у силі духу (Лк. 4, 14), здолавши усі спокуси ворога. «Піст є зброя, підготовлена Богом, - пише преподобний Ісаак Сирин. - Якщо постив Сам Законодавець, то як же не постити тим, хто зобов'язаний дотримуватися закону? До посту рід людський не знав перемоги і диявол ніколи не отримував поразок... Господь наш був керівником і первістком цієї перемоги... І як скоро диявол бачить цю зброю на кому-небудь з людей, цей супротивник і мучитель негайно приходить у страх, пригадуючи про поразку свою у пустелі від Спасителя, і сили його засмучуються».

Піст встановлений для всіх: і ченців, і мирян. Він не є повинністю або покаранням. Його слід розуміти як спасительний засіб, свого роду лікування і ліки для кожної людської душі. «Піст не відштовхує від себе ні жінок, ні людей похилого віку, ні юнаків, ні навіть малих дітей, - говорить святитель Іоан Золотоустий, - але усім відкриває двері, усіх приймає, щоб усіх врятувати». Чи «бачиш, що робить піст, - пише святитель Афанасій Великий: - хвороби лікує, бісів проганяє, лукаві помисли видаляє і серце робить чистим».

Очевидним є й те, що подвиг покаяння і молитви, під час посту, повинен супроводжуватися думками про свою гріховність і, звичайно, обмеженням від всяких розваг -

відвідування театру, кіно і бенкетів, веселої музики, перегляду телевізора для розваги і тому подібне. Якщо усе це ще тягне серце християнина, то потрібно зробити зусилля, щоб відірвати від цього своє серце, хоча б у дні посту.

«Хто обмежує піст тим, що тільки утримується від їжі, той дуже ганьбить його, - наставляє святитель Іоан Золотоустий. - Не одні вуста повинні постити, - ні, нехай постять і око, і слух, і руки, і усе наше тіло... Піст є відсторонення від зла, приборкання язика, стримання гніву, приборкання похоті, припинення наклепу, брехні і клятвопорушення... Ти постиш? Нагодуй голодних, спраглим дай пити, відвідай хворих, не забудь ув'язнених, пожалій змучених, утіш скорботних і таких, що плачуть; будь милосердний, лагідний, добрий, тихий, довготерпеливий, жалісливий, незлопам'ятний, благоговійний і степенний, благочестивий, щоб Бог прийняв і твій піст, і вдосталь дарував плоди покаяння».

Сенс посту - у вдосконаленні любові до Бога і ближніх, тому що саме на любові грунтується всяка доброчесність. Преподобний Іоан Касіан Римлянин говорить, що ми «не покладаємо надії на один піст, але, зберігаючи його, хочемо досягти через нього чистоти сердечної і апостольської любові». Ніщо - є піст, ніщо - є подвижництво за відсутності любові, бо як написано: Бог є любов (1 Ін. 4, 8).

Отже, проходячи піст тілесний,будемо постити і духовно. З'єднаємо піст зовнішній з постом внутрішнім, керуючись мудрістю. Очищуючи тіло стриманістю, очистимо і душу покаянною молитвою для надбання доброчесностей і любові до ближніх. Ось це і буде справжній піст, приємний Богу, а значить і для нас спасительний.

Sunday, March 10th all members of the newly-elected church board will take the oath of office. Confession for board members will be heard ½ prior to the celebration of the Divine Liturgy.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH:

Thank you to all who have donated food and clothing these past months. We have donated them to Sharing and Caring Hands, because FOCUS has lost their lease and looking for a new place. Once they are re-established we will be donating to them.

WE ARE STILL GATHERING FOOD AND CLOTHING for the FOCUS food and clothing shelves for the homeless. FOCUS is an Orthodox charity sponsored by the Pan-Orthodox community that provides meals, food, clothes and work for those in need.

There are two (2) boxes in the hall - for food and clothes. Please donate only non-perishable food such as canned goods or boxed staples such as rice, noodles, cereals, etc. All Food Should Be Within the Expiration Dates Otherwise It Will Be Thrown Away.

Clothing Should Be Either New or Gently Used. Currently we are collecting spring and summer clothing. You can also donate linens and household supplies. YOUR SUPPORT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

This month the Sisterhood meeting is moved to Wednesday, March 6th at 6:30 pm. Due to the Annual Meeting being moved to Sunday, March 3rd.

If you are not currently a member, please consider joining us for fellowship with people you have grown up with, fun and working together for the parish that provided our parents and us as youths with sustenance, fellowship, and a relationship with the Ukrainian Orthodox church.

Plast, the Ukrainian Scout Organization, is having an informational meeting for those who are interested in having their children participate in the Scouts on Sunday, March 10th at 1:00 p.m at the Ukrainian-American Community Center at 301 N.E. Main St. Minneapolis, MN.

The organization works with children of all ages in teaching them about nature, woodcrafts, develops their character and also emphasizes Ukrainian culture, religion and language. It is a very valuable organization for our children and their development and identity as Ukrainians.

FELLOWSHIP COFFEE HOUR –

Everyone is invited to the church hall each Sunday after Liturgy for refreshments and fellowship with exception on the Sundays when memorial services or church dinners are planned. If you want to volunteer to host a coffee hour you may sign up on the chart by

the kitchen in the Parish Hall. Many thanks to those who have volunteered in the past and to those who will volunteer to host future coffee hours.

We need volunteers to man and prepare the Coffee hour after the services. Men and women can both participate in volunteering for this very important service, since it provides fellowship for all parish members to get together and share with each other.

Sisterhood will provide plates, cups, flatware and napkins. We are also providing coffee, tea, cream and sugar and butter. Volunteers do not need to provide these items

The season of Great Lent is the time of preparation for the feast of the Resurrection of Christ. It is the living symbol of man’s entire life which is to be fulfilled in his own resurrection from the dead with Christ. It is a time of renewed devotion: of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It is a time of repentance, a real renewal of our minds, hearts and deeds in conformity with Christ and his teachings. It is the time, most of all, of our return to the great commandments of loving God and our neighbors.

In the Orthodox Church, Great Lent is not a season of morbidity and gloominess. On the contrary, it is a time of joyfulness and purification. We are called to “anoint our faces” and to “cleanse our bodies as we cleanse our souls.” The very first hymns of the very first service of Great Lent set the proper tone of the season:

Let us begin the lenten time with delight . . . let us fast from passions as we fast from food, taking pleasure in the good words

of the Spirit, that we may be granted to see the holy passion of Christ our God and his holy Pascha, spiritually rejoicing.

Thy grace has arisen upon us, O Lord, the illumination of our souls has shown forth; behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the time of repentance (Vespers Hymns).

It is our repentance that God desires, not our remorse. We sorrow for our sins, but we do so in the joy of God’s mercy. We mortify our flesh, but we do so in the joy of our resurrection into life everlasting. We make ready for the resurrection during Great Lent, both Christ’s Resurrection and our own.

With the Sunday of Zacchaeus quickly approaching, it’s time for each us to begin our preparation for our annual journey through Great Lent.

COLLEGE MISSION TRIP TO UKRAINE

Our Mission

The College Student Mission Trip to aid orphanages in Ukraine, is a ministry of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA. We hope to bring aid and comfort to special needs orphans and orphanages in a country that currently does not have the means to do so. By our actions, we hope to show the face of Christ to these children, their caregivers, their administrators, our host families and all we come in contact with and by doing so reaffirm the Holy Orthodox Faith amongst the people of Ukraine. We pray that by offering daily prayer services, as well as our love and works, that we will bring not only ourselves but all involved closer to Christ our God. This mission is also devised to provide young adults with the opportunity to deepen and learn about their faith through true Christian witness, pilgrimage, fellowship, and love.

Our Program

Eight college aged young adults are chosen from a pool of applicants to compose the Mission Team. The Team Members are led by a Spiritual Team Leader and a Lay Community Team Leader

While on site, the Team spends time with the children playing educational games, conducting a “special Olympics’ type program, helping during meals and physical therapy, singing, performing short plays and special projects such as teaching the children basic gardening skills. The activities are tailored to fit with children who have multiple disabilities such as: leukemia, physical deformity, Downs’ Syndrome, and mental disability to name a few

The team also helps with physical improvements to the facilities such as spackling walls, painting, repairs to furniture and wooden structures, and whatever may be needed at the time of trip

The Team Members are responsible for raising the funds for their trip. Any funds that they raise above what is needed for the cost of the trip becomes the Team’s donation to the orphanage.

While in Ukraine, the Team is given the opportunity to visit historic sites and tour the capital – Kyiv

The trip lasts for 16 days, which includes a day for orientation and a day for debriefing in South Bound Brook, NJ.

POROSHENKO JOINED THE UKRAINIAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY IN PRAYER FOR THE

HEAVENLY HUNDRED

Clergy and Parishioners from the five states that surround the Metropolitan New York area battled the snowy day of February 20th, 2019 in order to join the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA in the solemn

Memorial Service, commemorating the sacrifices of the HEAVENLY HUNDRED – the young men and women that in February 2014 lost their lives on Maydan in Kyiv.

The Memorial Service and program was made even more solemn, as the local Ukrainian Orthodox and Catholic community learned that the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, who was in the US during a working visit, would take part in the memorial service for the deceased Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.

Diocesan Church School Camp was developed over 30 years ago after the success of the UOC of USA's teenage camping program. DCSC is designed to meet the needs of youth ages 9-13.

Mommy & Me/Daddy & Me is celebrating its 15th year and provides wonderful experiences for children 4 –8 years old and their parents.

TEENAGE CONFERENCE

July 7 - 20, 2019 for Teenagers 13 - 18

Teenage Conference is the longest standing program put on by OYM. TC has been helping teenagers to grow in faith learn to live a Christ centered life for over 50 years.

ST. NICHOLAS PROGRAM

St. Nicholas Program June 14 -17, 2019 Special Needs Family Camp: St. Nicholas Program provides an Orthodox camping experience for families with children with disabilities of ANY age.

ALL SAINTS CAMP

All Saints camp is located on 95 beautiful acres along the banks of the Allegany River in Emlenton, PA. It is our wonderful home providing a serene place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and come closer to God and his creations. UOCCP Camper Scholarships Five $100.00 scholarships for campers who are in need of financial assistance. The scholarships are generously provided by the Jr. Ukrainian Orthodox League.

Metropolitan Constantine Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to one individual and covers one full week of camp. The criteria for award ship is financial need and participation in parish life.

Holy Trinity Camper Scholarships

Five $100.00 scholarships. The scholarships are generously provided by the legacy of Holy Trinity Parish, New Castle, PA. This scholarship is not based on financial need.

Wasyl Pysh Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to one individual who has never attended Teenage Conference and covers one full week of camp. This scholarship is not based on financial need.
