Our Darkest Hour, Our Finest Hour
Course overview A two-day workshop for in-service and pre-service art teachers.
• A two-day ‘hands on’ workshop for in-service and pre-service teachers to encourage them in their own creative life.
• To re-think student inspiration. • To understand colour relationships. • To offer adaptable practical class-room ideas at
each stage.
Why this course is for you Although the workshop will build on some principles from the previous workshop (2017) it will easily accommodate participants who did not attend. Two themes will run throughout the workshop: The seen and unseen human figure and Colours from nowhere. The Seen and Unseen Human Figure These are two closely linked approaches to help with the challenge of including the human figure in art work:
1. Working with existing visual sources including life and photographic images
2. Working with ways to including the human figure in drawings and paintings that are not dependant on models or pre-existing images. This component will be exploring ways of accessing the resources of memory.
Colours from Nowhere Finding the power of relative colour. This theme will explore the dynamic potential of the relationships
between colours: • Exploiting the fact that the colours we ‘see’ are
not the colours we ’see’ • Exploring the colour role of blacks and whites
