Our Lady of Grace Parish - April 28th, 2019
A Letter from our Pastor . . .
Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Grace Parish,
Happy Easter! The Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead on the third
day after His Crucifixion, fulfills all the prophecies Jesus made before His death. All
the Old Testament sacrificial offerings of animals, grains and incense, which were
types and symbols of the ultimate sacrifice to come, are replaced by the sacrifice of
Jesus on the Cross. We have no need to bring these offerings to the Lord, we do this
when we celebrate the Sacrifice of the Mass. All the prophets of the Old Testament
had foretold the coming of the Messiah, the Son of David, who would establish an
everlasting Kingdom and have dominion over all the gentiles (nations) of the
world. Jesus fulfills the prophecies and therefore we no longer look for new
“prophets” or new “messages”. When we put into practice the teachings of the Lord in
the Gospel we are living out the prophecies of God. Jesus Christ is the one Lord and
Savior of all peoples.
The plan of salvation from the beginning of creation is slowly revealed through
centuries. Perhaps if we had followed faithfully the plan of God for us by obeying His
commands (“From the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat” Gen
2:16-17) we would not have had to wait so long for the Lord to be revealed. The sea-
son of Easter is a time to reflect on this great truth: in Jesus Christ we can even now
begin to live in the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Old Testament ceremonial laws, statutes, decrees and commands were given as
a result of the sins of the people and of their tendency to idolatry, imitating the pagan
nations around them. Israel was called to witness to the holiness of God by living ac-
cording to His commands. We are the new Israel and we have the same task of wit-
nessing to the world that Jesus is the Lord and Savior of everyone. We live according
to His teachings as taught and proclaimed by the magisterium of the holy Catholic
Church. We look to no other religion for moral or religious truth. Because Jesus
Christ is the way, the truth and the life for us as His Church.
May Easter be a time to rejoice in the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and in
our re-birth in Him, as sons and daughters of God and members of His Kingdom.
In Christ,
Fr.
To-
