May 05, 2019 • Third Sunday Of Easter 3
In last week’s bulle"n, I men"oned that we should begin observing silence ten-minutes before Mass. I also men"oned that at the ten-minute mark, we could pray St. Ambrose’s Prayer before Mass. It’s come to my a#en"on that some, while desiring silence before Mass, would prefer not to pray the prayer before Mass begins as the prayer is very long and not set in modern language. So, instead of actually praying St. Ambrose’s Prayer together, I simply recommend you to quietly pray it, or some other prayer of your choice to prepare for Mass; perhaps you may want to meditate on the Sunday readings. Saying a prayer together before Mass begins is not essen"al; what is important is that we have quiet so that others may prayerfully prepare before Mass. As men"oned, the Parish Center is available before Mass for fellowship. Please note that part of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Renew My Church Ini"a"ve is to improve Parish Vitality. Fortunately, our Parish has a Core Leadership Team which is
part of a pilot program, along with about thirty other parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago. We have been mee"ng once a month to discuss ways of moving forward as we address decreasing Mass a#endance, and a decreasing number of priests. The program will conclude in June. Improving Parish Vitality will involve needed change. Silence before Mass, and the recently revamped Greeters Program are two examples of changes to improve Parish Vitality. I am grateful to Linda Krigbaum and others who recently a#ended a “Radical Hospitality” Training Seminar by the Archdiocese of Chicago. The seminar has provided Linda and the Hospitality Ministry with guidance in implemen"ng and overseeing the Greeters Ministry at all of the Masses. Addi"onal sugges"ons were also given at the seminar. In our desire to meet the spiritual needs of others, we may need to change the way we do some things. Changes are based on what we believe, and what it means to be authen"cally Catholic and authen"cally Church. In implemen"ng changes, some"mes we may make mistakes; some"mes we may only need to tweak a change. As Pastor, I would like to ask for your feedback as well as for your pa"ence and support, especially when we make mistakes. I also ask for your first-hand feedback as opposed to hearing it second-hand from someone else. Some of you have already given me comments and sugges"ons — thanks so much! With a Parish of our size, there is no way we will have complete agreement. But please know that when implemen"ng new ideas to more fully live out our calling as Church, I leverage sugges"ons and advice from cu'ng-edge parish-renewal programs, the Archdiocesan Pilot Program, the OLH Parish Council, and Evangeliza"on Commi#ee. Congratula"ons to Diane Wilczenski who this past week received the OLH Women’s Club “Woman of the Year Award”! Diane also serves as a Sacristan, and was instrumental in helping to document the many tasks required in celebra"ng our Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday Vigil, and Easter Mass celebra"ons. Special Thanks and Congratula"ons Diane! ElderCARE is sponsoring a “Celebrate Seniors Fes!val” this Sunday, May 5th, from 2 to 5PM at the University Center of Lake County (1200 University Center Drive in Grayslake). Please call ElderCARE at: (847) 406-4683 if you need a ride to the Fes"val. Congratula"ons to our OLH School and Religious Educa"on Students who received the Sacrament of Confirma"on this past Friday from Bishop Alberto Rojas. This Saturday OLH School and Religious Educa"on Students will receive their First Holy Communion. Please know that Holy Family Catholic Bookstore has a selec"on of First Communion dresses, veils, purses, and gloves for girls; and "es, "e tacks, and lapel pins for boys, as well as many gi* choices. Holy Family is located at: 9249 Old Green Bay Road, Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, and their phone number is: (262) 697-0333. Please keep our Confirmands and First Holy Communicants in your prayers.
God Bless,
Fr. Paul
A Note From The Pastor...

Prayer Shawl
Ministry A#en!on, All Kni#ers And
Crotcheters We would like to start a new ministry here at OLH Parish. It’s a beau"ful ministry making Prayer Shawls, to be given to pa"ents at the Cancer Hospital, by our Ministers of Care. We would also give them to grieving families at our Funerals, etc. There is much more informa"on that I have about this Ministry, but first we wanted to know if we have enough interested parishioners to begin. The Prayer Shawls can be worked on at home, and later if people want to, we can meet twice a month to work on the shawls together, and visit with each other. This is a wonderful Ministry! Members of St. Patrick’s Church in Wadsworth, Mrs. Fran Balistreri and Mrs. Jean Gibbons, were nice enough to share it with me. My understanding is that the shawls and blankets for the cancer pa"ents, and the blankets, hats, and boo"es for the premature infants, touch the pa"ents as well as those who make them. As you pray and think about it, I will be praying for you. Hope to hear from you! My name is Juanita, and my phone number is: (847) 721-5792. God Bless!
Co-Ed Senior Luncheon We will not be having a Co-Ed Senior Luncheon in May due to a School Scheduling Conflict. We will be having our next Co-Ed Senior Luncheon on Tuesday, June 11th. We will be having a Mexican Luncheon. Look for more details in upcoming bulle"ns.

RCIA RCIA will be finishing up our 2018-2019 Session in the next few weeks. The RCIA Team: Cheryl Mi#en, Barb Brooker, Gaston Placa, Deacon Marcelino & Brenda Hernandez, and Gerard & Kelly Metoyer, want to thank Our Lady of Humility Church Family for your support and prayers throughout the year for our candidates. You have been an inspira"on to them through your weekly presence, prayers, one on one moments of encouragement, and welcoming spirits. Each of the candidates have also been a model of commitment and inspira"on to all of us throughout the year. A Special Thank You to those of you that sent le#ers and cards of welcome to our neophytes at the Easter Vigil. They were very much appreciated. Our Sponsors, Karmann Wimmer, Chris!e Hall, and Debbie Villalobos deserve our special acknowledgment this year. They accompanied their candidates each week, and at all of the Rites and Celebra"ons throughout the year, giving welcome, support, affirma"on, and witness to their faith. Sundays were special days for RCIA when the group was sent forth a*er the homily at each Mass to further dwell on the Scripture readings for the day, and what it meant in our daily lives. Team and Sponsors took a turn or two facilita"ng these “Break Open the Word” Sessions a*er the homily each week. In addi"on to the team, Bonnie Tipton, Ryan Krueger (St. Joseph), Jack and Arden Robinson, Deacon Mike Mercure, Pete Owen, Deacon Askew, Sharon and Ed Harrigan (St. Paul the Apostle), Fr. Paul, and all those who voluntarily shared their personal tes!mony were guest presenters throughout the year. Thank you, one and all, for sharing the fruits of your love, faith, experience, tes"mony, and exper"se. Tremendous Thanks to Fr. Paul for his frequent presence and full support to the team and candidates. We appreciate your spiritual guidance and prayers. May none of us ever forget the precious prayer of our Lord and Savior Jesus as He prayed for all believers.
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as We are one. I in them and You in Me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.” –John 17:20-23
RCIA Spotlight For the next three weeks we will “spotlight” our new sisters and brother in Christ, Crystal Ramirez, Irma Crist, and Dave Hall. The RCIA Team would like you to meet our new Sister in Christ, Crystal Ramirez:
“My name is Crystal Ramirez. I was born in Elgin, Illinois, and moved to Zion around 1990. I a$ended Zion Benton Township High School where I met my husband, and we have 3 beau!ful children and 1 grandson. I currently am a Pharmacy Technician for Fresenius Medical Center. My job is helping pa!ents and nurses with home care supplies and prescrip!ons for those on dialysis. This is something close to my heart since my father was a pa!ent of Fresenius.
While raising my children, they received all their sacraments here at OLH. A few years ago, I started a$ending regularly. What brought me to that was mental health issues I was suffering from, and thought if I gave myself completely just maybe I could be healed. While a$ending I decided that I wanted to be bap!zed and receive my sacraments.
Thankfully RCIA was there to help me with my journey. Since on this journey of faith, it really has opened my eyes and heart for wan!ng to know more. It has certainly built rela!onships with others that I didn’t have before as well. It’s strange how magic is happening, and I’m in awe of the powers that He has. My conversa!ons with Him have definitely changed, and I see things a lot clearer than I once had. I’m accep!ng of my faults, and know I have Him on my side. I have many conversa!ons with even strangers regarding my own spiritual journey.
I have found this sense of wan!ng to build more within me. I feel like a be$er me, and since taking Holy Communion for the first !me, I feel like I am one with Him. I am looking forward to building my rela!onship with Him and learning more.”

OLH Teen Ministry: Catholic HEART Workcamp The OLH Teen Ministry is par"cipa"ng in Catholic HEART Workcamp June 16th-21st, 2019. Again we are seeking to raise funds for the Service Trip. The Registra"on Fee for each camper is $380. They are raising funds through group fundraisers, individual fundraisers, money from their own jobs, and requests for support from family and friends. Each year we have requested support from parishioners in our Parish Sponsor Appeal, and the response has been wonderful. We are again asking for your support. If you wish to help sponsor our campers, please write your check (for any amount) to: “Our Lady of Humility” (please write HEART Workcamp on the Memo Line so that it will be credited to the right fund); put it in the colored envelopes marked “HEART” at the exits of the Church, and place the envelope in the Collec!on Basket. If you cannot be a Financial Sponsor, we ask that you be a Prayer Sponsor in praying for our teens while they are preparing for HEART Workcamp, and while they are doing God’s work this summer.
8 Welcome to Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church
Honoring Mary During The Month Of May May is the month of Mary. Behold Mary as your mother, and consider honoring her in a special (perhaps even new) way this May. When you do, she will keep her promise of praying for you, both now, and at the hour of your death. (Sugges"ons will be offered throughout the month.) Create a May Altar at Home: May Altars are a tradi"on that date back hundreds of years, and were prevalent in many homes throughout the world. In simplest terms, a May Altar is a small surface in your home that is dedicated to honoring Our Blessed Mother during the month of May. It is a place for focusing on Marian devo"ons, and joining with Our Lady in prayer. May Altars may consist of nothing more than a meaningfully selected image, an icon or statue of Mary, and a spray of May flowers which are placed in a prominent place. Depending on the ages and interests of your family, you may want to include some other items such as:
ó Blue or White Linens (colors o*en associated with Our Lady) ó Real or Ar"ficial Flowers
ó Holy Cards with Images of Mary ó Candles ó Rosaries
ó Holy Water ó Picture Books and Devo"onals about Mary
ó Words to Hymns or Recordings of Songs about Mary ó Cushions, a Kneeler, a Chair, or a Stool nearby to Encourage Prayer
Of course, the most important thing is that your May Altar gets used. It should be a daily reminder of Mary saying “Y-E-S” to be the Mother of the Savior.
Pray the Rosary: The Rosary is the Marian devo"on par excellence. When people think of Marian devo"on, they usually think of the Rosary. If you do not pray the Rosary regularly, then consider making May the month when you commit to praying it every day. The Rosary is currently being prayed at 7:30AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 8AM on Fridays BEFORE Mass, and AFTER the 7AM Mass on Sundays at OLH. Please join us!
Pray the Regina Caeli: You might hear Church bells ring daily at 6AM, 12PM - Noon, and 6PM. Those bells indicate the tradi"onal "me of praying the Angelus, a prayer which focuses on the incarna"on. From Easter Sunday through Pentecost, the Regina Caeli replaces the Angelus Prayer. The Regina Caeli focuses on Easter joy, and the resurrec"on of Jesus. Try praying it at least once each day, if not all three "mes. If you cannot observe the tradi"onal Church "mes, then consider praying it before breakfast, lunch, and supper.
Regina Caeli Queen of Heaven, rejoice, Alleluia
The Son, whom you merited to bear, Alleluia Has risen, as He said, Alleluia
Pray for us to God, Alleluia V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, Alleluia
R. For the Lord has truly risen, Alleluia Let us Pray: O God, who through the resurrec!on of Your Son Jesus Christ gave rejoicing to the world grant, we
pray, that through His Mother, the Virgin Mary, we may obtain the joys of everlas!ng life. Through Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

Mary’s 15 Promises For Those Who Pray The Rosary V To all those who pray my Rosary devoutly, I promise my special protec"on and great graces. V Those who shall persevere in the recita"on of my Rosary will receive signal graces. V The Rosary will be a very powerful armor against Hell; it will destroy vice, deliver from sin, and
dispel heresy. V The Rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its’ vani"es, and will li* them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanc"fy themselves by this means. V Those who trust themselves to me through the Rosary will not perish. V Whoever recites my Rosary devoutly, reflec"ng on the mysteries, shall never be overwhelmed by misfortune. He will not experience the anger of God, nor will he perish by an unprovided death. The sinner will be converted; the just will persevere in
grace and merit eternal life. V Those truly devoted to my Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church. V Those who are faithful to recite my Rosary shall have during their life and at their death, the light of God and the plenitude of His
graces, and will share in the merits of the blessed. V I will deliver promptly from Purgatory souls devoted to my Rosary. V True children of my Rosary will enjoy great glory in Heaven. V What you shall ask through my Rosary you shall obtain. V To those who propagate my Rosary I promise aid in all their necessi"es. V I have obtained from my Son that all the members of the Rosary Confraternity shall have as their intercessors, in life and in death,
the en"re celes"al court. V Those who recite my Rosary faithfully are my beloved children, the brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ. V Devo"on to my Rosary is a special sign of predes"na"on. In addi"on, many miracles are associated with praying the Rosary. You can read about some of them in two popular books: “The Secret of The Rosary” by St. Louis de Mon@ort (ask the Legion of Mary for a free copy) and “Champions of The Rosary: The History and Heroes of a Spiritual Weapon” by Fr. Donald Calloway. (Note: A par!al indulgence under the usual condi!ons can be earned for praying both the Angelus and the Regina Caeli. A par!al indulgence is the remission of temporal punishment due for sins which have already been forgiven as far as their guilt is concerned.) h#ps://www.catholic.org/prayers/indulgc.php; h#ps://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?recnum=6623
