Inside this issue:
We have been hearing it and responding for a long time. As a community of faith,
long before I came to share your journey, God has shaped and moved and inspired and
abundantly supplied so that you have known Christ and you have made Christ known to
others (the Mission Statement’s very real affects).
Real people have been encouraged and had their faith strengthened. Real people
have experienced the love of the Crucified and Risen Lord Jesus in warm hugs and hot
dishes, cool drinks and in fellowship on frozen lakes. The impact has been local and
global. Real people have been fed. Real people have been protected from malaria. Real
people have been trained to lead others to Christ.
A brief vision of what this call has meant and means to Our Savior’s today was
shared at the Annual Meeting on April 26. So much is being done because God has called
us!
God is still calling.
The people across the street from our worship space and across the road from your
house and across the state and across the world are calling for the real touch of a real,
Risen and loving God in their lives. They are calling us.
What can we do together to respond to that call?
That is the bottom-line reason for what we are calling our Mission Planning. As
the world changes, as circumstances change in each of our lives, ministry and mission
need to adapt and transform to meet the challenges. God will supply whatever we need to
respond to the call God issues: ideas, dreams, money, volunteers, organization, re-
sources…
If ministry and mission is to continue through the people of Our Savior’s and in
and around the place we call “our church,” this “ministry center,” we know we will need
to continue to invest time, talent and money. We believe God will bless that investment.
We know this building needs roof work. We know our worship ministry would benefit
from multi-media. We know our welcoming spirit may be aided some re-design and re-
freshing of some of our public spaces. We know our connections to the greater church
(Camps, Missionaries, our other Lutheran sisters and brothers who share our sense of
mission… more?) would benefit from renewed connections and commitments. We know
we want to keep our Christian Education and Youth Ministries vital and growing. We
know our Pre School can become an even stronger force in our community. We know
there are people in our town who need all kinds of physical and community support (food,
housing, encouragement, a family connection… more?). We know…
Well, what do we know? I know there is more that God has called out of your hearts and
hands. I know—we know—we need time to explore those calls and then time together to

set priorities for moving forward into that call.
This month will take us deeper into that discerning time. May 3rd a crew of us will be at Breezy Point
near Brainerd to meet in Assembly with the rest of our “Church Together” (that’s what “Synod” means) to help
share and shape that part of our mission. May 10th in Adult Forum we will distill some of what you have already
said about this Mission Planning into a broad outline for the future. May 17th in worship at both services we will
seek God’s Word and leading to begin to shape a vision that can help guide us to respond to those things we
know God is calling us to do. That vision will impact our upcoming Capital and Ministry Appeal, our dreams for
ministry and staff, our plans to refresh and refurbish this ministry center, and how we will touch the lives of
God’s children around us.
I am on that journey with you!
Pastor Chris
New Visitation Pastor Greetings to you members at Our Savior’s Lutheran! I’m glad to be newly on board as the visitation pastor at your con-gregation. In this role, I’ll be visiting our homebound members (at home, care cen-ters and in the hospital) and bringing com-munion to them. In this role, I’ll be serv-ing about ten hours each week.
I’m a second career, ELCA pastor who was ordained in 2002. I served Salem Lutheran Church in Mahtowa for six years, then Pike Lake Presbyterian Church for two years. It was during that half-time call that I completed three additional units of Clinical Pastoral Education and felt the call to specialized ministry. These past five years I’ve served as a chaplain at St. Mary’s, Essentia and am also currently two days a week as chaplain at Augustana Mercy Health Care Center in Moose Lake.
My husband Mark and I have two sons Brian (32 years) and Keith (25years) who both married exceptional women and have each recently blessed us grandchil-dren: Kate is 16 months old and Ian James is 7 weeks old. Both of our sons live in the Twin Cities.
I look forward to meeting you, learning about the various ministries at OSLC, and serving in ministry with you.
Blessings,
Pastor Karen Linné

Sub Sandwich Pick Up!
Reminder: Your subs will be ready for pick up on
Wednesday, May 6 ~ 5-7 pm in the church
kitchen.
All proceeds benefit New Horizons Christian Preschool.
From all of us in the Preschool, THANK YOU for supporting our fundraisers this school year!
Notes from the Preschool Director… Happy Spring from the Preschool!
Graduation is at the end of the month and then the school will be closed for the summer. It has been a wonderful year! Thank you for all the support we have received throughout the school year ~ we cannot keep this outreach ministry going without you!
A few thoughts I want to leave you with before summer is upon us…
We still have openings for the fall! Please call, text, email or message me on Facebook with questions or interest in enrolling your child. I don’t have many office hours in the summer, but I look forward to setting up a time convenient for you to see the school and to answer your questions.
We offer 2 day/week, 3 day/week and 5 day/week classes. All of our classes are 9-noon.
We do take 5 year olds! New Horizons is licensed to enroll students between 33 months(3 years old) and the start of Kindergarten. A number of our students are 5 years old before the first day of class. If you have a child that is 5 years old, but developmentally could use an extra year before going to Kindergarten; please consider us. Our 5 day/week class offers consistent individualized instruction to help prepare your child for all day Kindergarten.
Our tuition rates are competitive with daycare. All of our class options are either in line with daycare rates or less expensive than daycare.
We offer transportation to and from preschool. Currently, we transport children to/from Kids Corner in Cloquet and the preschool board reviews requests for transportation from other locations on a case by case basis.
New Horizons is a 4-star rated Parent Aware Preschool! Visit parentawareratings.org to read how this rating can benefit your child.
Families of our Parent Aware rated program are eligible to apply for state scholarships to pay for Preschool. That’s right…if you meet certain income guidelines, there is money available through Parent Aware to help you pay for your child’s preschool education. I am here to help you with the application process in any way I can! Please talk to me, if you are concerned about how to afford preschool for your child.
From all of us at New Horizons ~ We wish you a happy, healthy summer!

NEW HORIZONS CHRISTIAN PRESCHOOL NEWS
We are not sure where our year has gone, but it has flown by so quickly. We have met new friends with classmates and many of you in the congrega-tion. We have been blessed with such a wonderful church family. Thank you for assisting us in making this year such a great one filled with God's love. At our Spring Program on May 28 we will say farewell to ten students that will enter kindergarten next year. They are so ready to go on to the next adven-ture. They know they are loved by so many but most of all have God's love in their hearts always.
On May 7, we will gather with the two other Chris-tian Preschools in the area for a morning of fun. This year we will gather at St. Matthews in Esko. We have several field trips planned as well.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR SUPPORTING THIS WONDERFUL MINISTRY WITH OUR CHIL-DREN. HAVE A GREAT SPRING AND SUMMER.
God's love from the staff and the Children.

FOOD FOR 5 MEALS - $1.00
The first Sunday of the month is designated as Food Shelf
Sunday. We realize that it is easy to forget to bring
items to church. In order to make this easier we suggest
that a monthly monetary collection be taken on Food
Shelf Sunday.
This money can be used to help the Salvation Army Food
Shelf in Cloquet or 2nd Harvest Food Bank in Duluth.
Just $1 can provide enough food for 5 meals through this
2nd Harvest program. We would encourage each family to contribute at least $1 on Food Shelf Sunday. This pro-
gram is a bargain that every family can be a part of. May
we share our blessings with those in need.
Thank you, Katie & Jerry Nisula
Co-chairs
Fellowship Team – All members of the team are remaining in service, but new members are always
welcome. The team will be serving the pizza lunch before the semi-annual meeting on April 26.
Stewardship – the ‘Time and Talent’ sheets are being used to locate individuals willing to be considered for open positions
on the various teams and committees.
Youth/Small Group Ministry – New leadership will be filling the youth board as vacancies occur.
The youth will be serving Easter Sunday breakfast again this year and are counting on donations of food and workers.
There has been positive feedback on the “Kid’s Church” during the church worship time at
the second service. Parents are very appreciative of the opportunity to listen to the sermon without distraction. Christina
K. announced her intention to become a candidate for the seminary at Wartburg.
Worship, Arts and Music - Plans are in place for the services during Holy Week, including Maundy Thursday, Good Friday
and the three services on Easter Sunday. An urgent need is to replace and upgrade the mixing soundboard, which has seen
more than 20 years of heavy use. The team is looking into cost options.
Other Discussion: It was agreed that we would again have a single “blended service” for the summer months, beginning
the Sunday after Memorial Day. There are concerns about finding acolytes for the first service and discussion about
whether the program should be redesigned to include some of the older youth.
NHCS – School enrollment is now up to 17 students and the possibility of more enrollment due to the
positive Parent Aware ratings. Thank you from the preschool for all who donated food, worked, contributed to the silent
auction and in so many ways supported the Spaghetti Dinner. NHCP will sponsor a Sub Sandwich sale in the weeks prior to
fishing opener
▪ Old Business – Adult Forum topics are set through April and will include Lutheran Social Services speakers. For May,
more ministry teams are asked to step up. The semi-annual congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, April 26. The
agenda will include a financial update, approval and election of officers and committees and an audit committee report
for 2014.
Mission Planning – Mary Krohn volunteered to pull some common themes from the results of the yellow mission plan sur-
vey sheets to present to the congregation. Pr. Chris and some other congregation members will attend “Don’t Say No Until
You Know” workshop later this month.
New Wine Coffee House will be performing Godspell 2012 Revised Ver-sion at Zion Lutheran Church on April 23-25 at 7:00 pm. and Sunday April 26 at 2:00 pm. Only advance tickets—$10, includes performance and dessert.
Mark you calendars! They will be performing at Our Savior’s on May 24th—both services.

PPC Minutes OSLC Parish Planning Council Meeting Highlights for Tuesday, March 17, 2015
Addition to Agenda:
Invited guests Tom Meyer, representing the Boy Scouts of America Voyageurs Area Council, and Terry Thompson, repre-senting Cub Scout Pack 172, spoke to the council about the need to designate a church representative since the pack is currently not chartered. The duties of the representative are to monitor and track cash, ensure that safety and other rules are followed during activities and to serve as a liaison between the pack and the church. The council will find a replace-ment as soon as possible.
▪ Treasurer’s Report
For February, revenue was about $500 over, and expenses were $1500 under, resulting in a gain over budget predictions of about $2000 and a YTD gain over budget of $3800. The savings in expenses were mainly due to the visiting chaplain po-sition vacancy and the savings in snow plowing. March figures are not complete, but there are great expectations for April, with 5 Sundays including Easter.
▪ Pastor’s Report –
† Ministry Summary –
Pre-Communion training is at mid-point. To accommodate people wanting to kneel and prayer at
communion, there may a change in the communion flow, with the ushers directing communicants
in two rows up the center aisle to receive communion, allowing opportunity to kneel at the rail.
† Emerging Opportunities for Ministry –
∙ “Center for Changing Lives” is the theme for a Lutheran Social Services house in Duluth which
focuses on homeless youth. A representative will be here on April 12 to deliver a temple talk and
meet with the adult forum.
∙ Camp Noah is a 5 day training program open to elementary-age children in the community who
would benefit from ”resiliency training” and disaster preparedness skills in coping with crisis.
Together with Zion, we can participate by providing space, meals, places to stay and some on-site
coordination. The council approved offering our facility to host Camp Noah in June
† Multi-media start – the sound system is in need of major upgrades or replacement, roughly at a
cost of $3,000 to $3500. This need is a part of our mission planning process.
† Staff - Together with volunteers, the staff has visited all but about 6 or 7 on our visitation list.
Visiting Chaplain Position – Pastor Karen Linne is interested in our position as Visiting Chaplain.
The CAT will consider her qualifications and the budget situation and make a recommendation to
the PPC.
▪ Team Leader Reports
Christian Education - There are nine 3rd graders receiving instruction on first communion. They will participate in their
first communion on Maundy Thursday, April 2. The Sunday school children will be processing into the sanctuary singing at
both services on Palm Sunday. Plans are being made for VBS for this summer. Feedback is welcome on the format for last
year’s sessions which were held on Sunday through Thursday evenings and included a meal. A computer/printer in the
preschool office has failed and will be dumped.
Church Properties – Saturday, May 2, is the day planned for the spring cleanup and work day. Volunteers are needed.
Deacons - are still seeking two new male members.
Evangelism - More volunteers are needed to fill the ministry team.

Coffee with a Lutheran Flavor
The LWR Coffee Project is a partnership between Lutheran World Relief and Equal Exchange.
The LWR Coffee Project unites you with farmers who labor to fill your cup. Buying Fair Trade gives coffee farmers steady income to sent their children to school, make sure their communities have clean water, and protect their environment. Lutherans and coffee… the two come together when neighbors gather at church for fellowship. Fairly traded coffee shares more of the bounty of the crop with those who grow it. Improved incomes and trustworthy partners enable small farmers to build a better future for their families and communities. The LWR Coffee Project is a way to reach out with what we spend on something as ordinary and wonderful as coffee. It’s Good Coffee for a Good Cause.
Every Sunday we enjoy fair Trade coffee following worship services in the Narthex.

The calendar for the 2015 radio broadcast sponsorship is up near the Fireside room. When signing up for a date, remember to pay the office. The rate for a sponsorship is $52.50. In order to keep this service, we need more sponsors. Thank you!
FAIR TRADE COFFEE
Many coffee varieties available. Decaf, whole bean and ground. Not a coffee drinker… We carry a variety of tea and Hot cocoa mix. Every time Lutherans use Fair Trade coffee in congrega-tions, sell it to members and drink it at home, they minis-ter to their coffee—growing neighbors around the world.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment.
*For Church related cancellations due to bad weather, announcements will be made on WKLK, B105, and Mix 108 radio stations, and also on Duluth TV stations Notifications will also be on our website: Www.oursaviorscloquet.org. If Cloquet schools are closed or have a 2 hour late start, New Horizons’ Christian Preschool is closed for the day.
Please remember to call the office if you would like to schedule a meeting in the church so we may put it in the church calendar. Thank you.

Scholarships/Camperships:
Many parents ask what to do if they can’t afford a trip for a stu-dent. We can do a few things. We can always work out a pay-ment plan. We understand life itself is expensive and that sometimes it gets a little tight. There are several fundraising opportunities throughout the year which with your efforts can provide a $100 scholarship. Feel free to let us know what you need and we will work with you the best we can!

Camp Noah is a locally hosted event for elemen-tary-age children whose communities have been impacted by disaster. Camp Noah provides a safe, caring and fun environment where children build resiliency skills within the familiarity of their own communities, using a proven curriculum designed to help children process their disaster and/or trauma experience through creative activities and play. Camp Noah celebrates every child as special. In this safe and supportive setting, children are en-couraged to face their fears, grieve their losses, identify and share their unique gifts and talents, and plan for an amazing future.
Disaster changes lives-especially for children. And whatever type of disaster or trauma they have ex-perienced, children often need support to process what has happened. During Camp Noah, a team of Certified Camp Staff accompanies campers through an intentional process that enables the children to process their disaster and gives them the space and time necessary to tell their stories and build resiliency skills. And Camp Noah is FUN!
Every child receives 30 hours of therapeutic play-focused creative activities with a ratio of 3-4 chil-dren for every Certified Camp Staff member. Meals and snacks are provided. In addition, all campers receive a paintable ark, a t-shirt, a fully-equipped backpack, all the supplies necessary to complete the creative activities during camp, a handmade fleece blanket, and multiple craft items.
Camp Noah is open to all elementary-age children (kindergarten—6th grade) in the community who would benefit from learning resiliency and disaster preparedness skills—in other work, EVERY CHILD!
Camp will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church
during the last week in June. Watch for further
information on registering your child for this fun event. We are currently looking for someone who would be interested in being a site coordinator for this project. Contact the church office if you are interested.

In updating our church roster data, we sent letters to a
number of our church family members when our phone
contact information appeared to be outdated. Thanks to
the many folks who responded. However, we did receive
back several “keep us in the roster” letters and four
“remove us from the roster” letters with no names on the
form. Consequently, if you are still receiving this Messenger
and had requested to be removed from the roster, please
contact the church office to leave your name and facilitate
this change in our records.
