Student Council Reports
RBWM Meeting: by Mr Burrows
On Thursday 9th February, 10 representatives from the School Council represented Cox Green School at a
borough council meeting. The council meeting was extremely important for the borough as all councillors
attended to discuss a variety of issues, including town redevelopment and the budget. Cox Green
students were invited to present questions to the council based on matters of interest and as a follow up
to the recent release of cabinet papers. In front of local councillors, the public and cameras recording for
a live stream, the students were exceptional and a credit to the school. They spoke extremely
confidently, were attentive and even presented councillors with some challenging supplementary
questions. The councillors voiced how impressed they were with our students and exclaimed how they
wish to have further contact with the school council. I personally was extremely proud to attend and
watch the students perform so admirably.
Congratulations to:

School Council and Sports Council update: by Mr Burrows
Alongside the achievements at the borough council meeting, the students in the school councils have
been extremely busy. All representatives have led a tutor time in which they asked students for their
concerns and we have had meetings to share feedback and ideas. Currently, the council is working at
ideas to try and create more seating areas in school for break times and have also helped raise awareness
in making the school toilets even better! Further discussions have taken place about litter on site and
raising awareness about mobile phone safety.
The Sports Council met for their first meetings this month with Mr Stokes and discussed a variety of
issues from changing rooms to house competitions. Students in the council hope to speak to pupils across
the school to gage opinions about what new extra-curricular activities could be provided.

Litter Problems: by Susannah Ames and Oliver Clements, Year 11 School Council
It has been brought to the attention of the School Council, by the students of Cox Green School that the
number of gulls in the school area has drastically increased, and is now becoming a problem. Aside from
the fact it is unpleasant, it means corridors are now more crowded, as pupils are reluctant to stand
outside.
In light of this, we would appreciate if you could remind your child to use the bins provided by the school
to throw away all rubbish. We believe that if we avoid litter being dropped, the problem will quickly and
easily be solved.
Thank you for your co-operation.
School Council
Prefect update: by Mr Burrows
Prefects have been busy over recent weeks. They have supported staff at Parent’s Evening, started
generating ideas to help raise money for the prom and offered their support to Mr Burton to help with
internet safety week.

who live in the Maidenhead SL6 area. Awards of up to £500 will be considered for
educational purposes and the promotion of leadership, self discipline, healthy lifestyles outdoor
adventures and practical skills. If students would like any advice on applying they can speak to MissKiely.
Applications should be sent to [email protected], or can be handed in at school where they
will be collated and sent together, all decisions are at the discretion of the Lions Club of Maidenhead.
Holocaust Event – Monday 20th February
On Monday 20th February Uri Winterstein is coming in to school to talk about his families experiences of
persecution during the Second World War. Uri was born in Slovakia in 1943 and from the age of one
month was placed in the care of a non-Jewish family, in case the family had to go into hiding. Uri’s father
was part of the Working Group, an under-ground movement trying to stop/hinder the transportation of
Jews from 1942 until September 1944. In 1944 Uri’s father was sent to a concentration camp. After the
war the family were reunited and left Czechoslovakia as communism began to grow within the country.
In 1948 the family migrated to Brazil. He now lives in Chiswick and volunteers to share his family’s
experiences to students across the country through the Holocaust Education Trust. Uri will be sharing his
story to a selection of Year 9 and Year 10 History and RS students.
Ella Anderson Performs at Dance Festival in Ascot
