We at Oxford High School desire to give every child the opportunity to be a successful member of society. In alignment with our OHS Cares...Loving, Teaching, & Inspiring vision, we have adopted the theme 20/20 Future-Focused for the 2016-17 school year. Our future-focused theme centers around three major characteristics that we feel are necessary to prepare your child for college or the career field:

1. Rigorous - We feel it is necessary to hold all students to high expectations. We believe that the learning experiences and expectations for all OHS students should be academically, intellectually, and personally challenging.

2. Relevant - We believe it is important to create learning experiences that are applicable to the personal aspirations, interests, or cultural experiences of your child. It is our goal to connect learning in some way to real world issues, problems, or contexts.

3. Relationships - We believe that an individual's success is not solely determined by his or her academic ability. A person must also have certain soft skills in order to build relationships with coworkers and be a productive member of a team. As a result, we are working to instill the following soft skills in our students

1) the ability to communicate both in written language and orally 2) the ability to collaborate and work as a team3) having a strong work ethic/being self motivated/honesty4) being organized and managing your time wisely5) thinking critically and becoming problem solvers.

Establishing an open line of communication regarding student academic performance is vital to the success of Oxford High School students. According to the 2015-16 parent survey, as a school, we need to improve our grade reporting practices so parents having a better understanding of their child's academic success. Only 40% of parents of OHS students felt they were kept informed regularly of how their child was being graded during the 2015-16 school. The best means of communication regarding student academic performance is PowerSchool.

We at Oxford High School commit to the following best practices to improve our line of communication regarding student performance using PowerSchool:

1. All teachers will enter a Weekly Agenda in PowerSchool by 1st period every Monday morning2. Students will receive no less than 9 grades per nine weeks (at least one grade per week)3. Grades will be entered within 5 days of the assignment date. The only possible exception would be assignments that require a high volume of writing (essays, lab reports, etc). 4. Establish clear grading scales for all departments

We ask that parents commit to the following action steps to stay informed:1. Login to PowerSchool every Monday to view the Weekly Agenda for all of your child's classes2. Review and discuss your child's grades with him or her at least once a week3. Email or call your child's teacher if you have a concern or question about a grade or assignment4. View the comments submitted by your child's teachers be clicking on the underlined assignment

Oxford High School Math Department

The math department has adopted a college-style total points approach to its grading scale for the 2016-2017 school year. A student's grades is calculated by dividing the total points accumulated by the total points possible. Each assignment is worth a differing number of points based on the number of problems on the assignment as well as the difficulty of the assignment. Assessments are worth more points than homework and class work assignments. Each teacher will also provide partial credit when grading each assessment based on a student's ability to illustrate a mastery of the process to finding solutions using mathematical concepts.

THE OHS BAND RECEIVED ALL SUPERIORS YESTERDAY AND QUALIFIED FOR THE STATE MARCHING CHAMPIONSHIPS . THEY HAD THE HIGHEST SCORE OF THE THIRTY BANDS THAT PARTICIPATED IN THE REGIONAL CONTEST. THE SCORE OF 93.3 IS ALSO THE SCHOOL RECORD.
