SEPTEMBER 8, 2019 TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Who can know God’s counsel, or who can conceive what the LORD intends? For the end deliberations of mortals are timid, and unsure are our plans. For the corruptible body burdens the soul and the earthen shelter weighs down the mind that has many concerns. And scarce do we guess the things on earth, and what is within our grasp we find with difficulty; but when things are in heaven, who can search them out? Or who ever knew your counsel, except you had given wisdom and sent your holy spirit from on high? And thus were the paths of those on earth made straight. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION …“Pause before the tabernacle by yourself, for no special reason, even without saying a word, simply remaining in Christ’s presence, contemplating the supreme gesture of love contained in the consecrated Bread”. - Pope John Paul II

PEACE, Comfort, Joy, Repentance, Petition, Thanksgiving, Rest…

How often during your day to day activities are you able to take time to talk with the Lord about one of these? Over the next seven Sundays, let’s take a closer look at how you can experience

each of these by just spending a little time with the Lord during Eucharistic Adoration! PEACE noun Freedom from disturbance; tranquility. “you can while away an hour or two in peace and seclusion” Tranquility, calm, calmness, restfulness, peace and quiet, peacefulness, quiet

St. Vincent de Paul Reflection September 9 is the Feast Day of Blessed Frederic Ozanam

Frederic Ozanam was born April 23, 1813 in Milan, Italy. He studied law, literature and philosophy and taught at the universities in Lyon and Paris. Challenged by a detractor of the faith to demonstrate the good he was doing socially in France, Frederic and six companions founded the Society of St. Vincent de Paul on April 23, 1833 while in Paris. Pope John Paul II beatified Frederic Ozanam in Paris on August 22, 1997. Follow in the charitable footsteps of Blessed Frederic Ozanam . .Your donation to St. Vincent de Paul helps us provide assistance to Neighbors in Need right here in our neighborhood.

RCIA – FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO BECOME CATHOLIC, AND FOR THOSE ALREADY CATHOLIC WHO WANT TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THEIR FAITH WHAT: The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (or, RCIA) is the process by which interested adults are brought into full communion in the Catholic Church, and involves formation in the catechetical, liturgical, and pastoral elements of Catholic faith and practice.

WHO: In addition to being available for those who desire to enter the Church, however, the RCIA is also offered as an opportunity for those who are already Catholic as a means of learning much more about the Catholic faith.

HOW: In weekly sessions over approximately six months, we will work through the whole content of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which Pope St. John Paul II described as “offered to all the faithful who wish to deepen their knowledge of the unfathomable riches of salvation,” and as a means of better comprehending “the wondrous harmony of Catholic faith.” There is no cost to participate. The only

“homework” required will be reading assigned sections of the Catechism, and occasional passages from Sacred Scripture.

WHY: For many Catholics, the only formal instruction we received in the Catholic faith occurred during grade school or high school. And notwithstanding the particular quality of that instruction, it was necessarily tailored to the questions, and the capacities, of young students. But as adults we have likely had life experiences, and faced moral challenges, which go beyond the degree of understanding afforded by that early religious training. Quite simply, this is why the Church encourages adult education in the Catholic faith—we cannot expect to properly know, love, and serve God as an adult Catholic if we are armed only with an 8th-grader’s understanding of the faith. So, please consider participating in the RCIA sessions this year, as an aid in developing a fully adult understanding of what the Church teaches and believes.

WHERE: In the Education Room in the Church Hall.

WHEN: Monday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm, beginning October 7, 2019, and ending April 6, 2020.
