You can help by doing the following on a regular basis

Use MT Language to engage your child in daily

conversation and in topics which interest him/her

Make it a habit to notice such information in your daily

commute and have a casual conversation with your child



Let your child get used to developing an opinion on

various topics; eg by asking him / her to comment on a

story character’s behaviour, what he / she has learnt and

ask him / her to share a relevant or similar experience



Tune in to Chinese / Malay / Tamil radio stations

Choose appropriate MTL TV programmes to watch with

your child

Reading skills

Cultivate good reading habits

Set a routine reading time with your child and read story

books or electronic books with your child.

Bring your child to the library or the bookshop at least

once a week.

Select age-appropriate books that are based on your

child’s interests.
