Literacy

Reading

We will be developing our skimming and scanning skills to make predictions about various texts, marking texts to find required information and to use notes to develop thinking on a topic. The children will read a variety of genre including poetry and short stories and create a short presentation to their group/class about a piece of writing they enjoyed.

Writing

We will be continuing to develop our writing skills, focusing on using direct and indirect speech, including more connectives and learning about prepositions. We will look at the features of newspapers and create our own front page article, providing a logical sequence of events.

Listening & Talking

We will be listening to specific instructions to answer questions and annotate drawings, responding to a variety of questions (literal, inferential, prediction, analytical and evaluative) and talking confidently about a text we enjoyed.

Spanish

• Talk about foods—what we like/dislike; healthy/unhealthy foods

Numeracy & Mathematics

Numeracy

We will add and subtract, multiply and divide up to 9999 using column methods, look at frac-tions—add, subtract, equivalent and fractions of a quantity, and also be introduced to percentages.

Outer Maths

We will look at the 12 and 24 hour clock, co-ordinates and place value with money.

IDL – Tudors and Stuarts

Learning about the buildings connected to Mary Queen of Scots.

Look at some of the major events in her life which changed the shape of Scotland.

Forces

Understand that there are different types of forces

Plan, carry out and write up experiments to learn about air resistance, gravity and friction.

Health & Wellbeing

Athletics and Games outside, develop basic skills for tennis

HWB

Building Resilience—Keep Connected

We will be looking at the importance of relationships to our health and wellbeing, that belonging to a group can help to build friendships and that relationships are a two way thing. We will talk about our “back up” team—who that may involve and why.

Expressive Arts

Art— create a Winterscape, make a Christmas decoration

Music— learn about a famous composer, comparing with one from current times.

Drama— explore the conventions of hot-seating, role play, freeze frame and mime.

ICT/Technologies

• Complete tasks through the Teams programme. Learn to upload photos and word documents.

• Use design skills to solve problems.

• Use a variety of materials in different experiments through Forces IDL.

RME

• Investigate festivals of light within different religions, including Hinduism and Judaism.

• Research Christmas traditions around the world.
