From pencil sketches to Adobe InDesign, creating this flierwas a process of initial concepts, critique, and revision. The settled on layout primarily relies on the principles ofalignment to capture attention and create visual flow. Thetriangularly cropped photo suggests the “competitive edge”from the title question as does the intense gaze from the
model’s single visible eye. By matching the photo’s shape thetriangle bullets tie the design together. The copy, photo, andVouant logo were provided by the client.

Duplex folding offset brochure.
objectives
- Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. - Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure. - Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four qualityimages, not including the logo. One should be clipped inPhotoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text followsthe cutout shape of the image. - Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least threeparagraphs, headers, and subheaders.
- Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.
process
Began by designing a new logo in Adobe Illustrator. Afterseveral variations (in black and white) a typographic designwas settled on featuring “jacob” as the focal point with“DESIGNS” nested next to an elongated “j”. A single font was
used with the elements contrasted with varied capitalization, font weight, and color value. Then a lime color scheme waschosen to show creativity and friendliness.
Next a rough layout was sketched on paper for a verticalfolding offset brochure. The layout was then organized inAdobe InDesign. One simple page for the back and frontfeatured the logo. The inside page was organized into threesections: header featuring clipped photo and wrapping text, center with three-column layout for body copy, footer showing
additional photos. This inside page was flipped upside down forproper printing alignment.
Adobe Photoshop was used to format the large photo, usingthe Quick Selection tool to make the cutout and refine the
edges. The photo was inserted into InDesign and the bodycopy was set to wrap around the image using the Text Wrap:Alpha Channel option.
