What is Betamethasone di-propionate/ salicylic acid and what is it used for This product consists of two active ingredients; betamethasone di-propionate and salicylic acid. Betamethasone di-propionate belongs to a class of medicines known as” topical corticosteroids” that acts by reducing inflammation, itchiness and redness of the skin. Salicylic acid is a medicine that acts by softening the top layer of scales present on the surface of your skin, allowing betamethasone di-propionate to reach the affected skin area below the scales in order to help with your skin disease recovery. This product is used for the treatment of adults and children with skin problems involving a layer of scales covering the affected skin. This product will help in decreasing the itchiness and redness of your skin and removing the layer of scales. 2. What you need to know before you use Betamethasone di-propionate/ salicylic acid Do not use Betamethasone di-propionate/ salicylic acid

If you have an allergy to Betamethasone di-propionate, salicylic acid, or any of the ingredients present in this product.

If the package is ripped or has signs of tampering.

If the expiry date mentioned on the medication box has passed.

If you experience an allergic reaction or skin irritation upon use of this ointment.

If you may be suffering from other skin problems (e.g. genital itching, cold sores, shingles, chickenpox, acne, nappy rash, skin inflammation around the mouth, other skin infections or rosacea which is a skin problem that affects the face). The use of this medicine for other skin disorders may worsen your problem. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Warnings and precautions

Stop the medication right away and talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you develop any allergic or skin reactions to any of the ingredients present in this ointment such as skin itchiness, skin redness, shortness of breath, skin rash, swelling of the face or neck, decreased blood pressure and dizziness.

This medicine is designed for external topical use only. Do not swallow this product.

Avoid contact of the ointment with your lips, eyes, mouth, sensitive areas of the neck and angles of the nose in order to avoid irritation. In case of accidental contact, make sure to rinse the area very well with warm water and then pat dry.

Make sure to tell your doctor if you have psoriasis before using this medicine. Your doctor may recommend regular follow-ups to assess your psoriasis. Contact your doctor if you have psoriasis and your skin is getting worse or you are getting raised bumps filled with pus below the skin.

Talk to your doctor immediately if you, or your child develop any vision problems (e.g. blurred vision).

Make sure not to smoke or go near naked flames in order to prevent risk of severe burns. Contact of fabric (e.g. bedding, clothing, dressings) with this ointment burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard. Washing fabric may decrease product build-up but does not totally remove it.

Side effects that may occur with the use of oral or inhaled corticosteroids may also happen with topical corticosteroids. These side effects are more likely to happen in infants and children.

Do not cover the applied ointment with bandages or plasters. Other medicines and Betamethasone di-propionate/ salicylic acid

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medications including topical products.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Talk to your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant, plan on getting pregnant or breastfeeding. Discuss with your doctor risks that this medicine may impose on you and your baby during this phase and ask for advice. Driving and using machines It is generally safe to drive or use machineries after using this medication.

3. How to use Betamethasone di-propionate/ salicylic acid

Adults Apply a thin layer of ointment and gently massage it into the affected area and the surrounding skin areas twice a day (morning and evening).

Children Recommended dose is the same as adults. Using an incorrect amount of this medicine or using it for a prolonged period of time may cause changes to your child’s hormones, which may rarely cause rounding of the face or a moon face, delayed development and growth, pressure build up in the brain area which can lead to bulging of the fontanelle (the soft spot in the top of the skull) in infants, constant headache and vision problems (e.g. blurred vision). In case this ointment is used in children, make sure that it is not used for more than 5 days.

Wash your hands before and after using the ointment.

Make sure to replace the cap on the tube after using the ointment in order to avoid leakage of the medicine.

Make sure to follow the directions mentioned on this leaflet unless recommended differently by your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your pharmacist or doctor if you are not sure.

Make sure to keep the ointment away from your eyes.

Make sure not to apply the ointment below a dressing (e.g. bandage or plaster) or under your child’s nappy in order to prevent excessive absorption of the medicine and subsequent undesirable side effects.

Do not apply a large amount of this ointment on large body areas for a long period of time (e.g. on a daily basis for many weeks or months).

Do not use this ointment on your face for more than 5 days .

Do not use this ointment on skin wounds or on large areas of the skin or in skin folds (e.g. the back of the knee).

If you use more Betamethasone di-propionate/ salicylic acid than you should If you use more Betamethasone di-propionate/ salicylic acid than you should, you may experience excessive skin irritation. If this happens, make sure to wash off the ointment as much as possible. Using a higher dose than recommended or for a longer period of time may also affect the levels of certain hormones in your body, especially in infants and children which can affect their development and growth. Hormonal problems in adults may rarely cause signs like, ringing in the ears, weakness, rounding or puffiness of the face, dizziness and tiredness when sitting down or standing. Talk to your doctor if you use this medicine differently than directed by your doctor, or if you use a higher dose than recommended, or if you apply the ointment on large body areas or too frequently or for a longer period of time than recommended. In case of accidental swallowing of the ointment, it should not cause any problem, contact your doctor if you are concerned about it. If you forget to use Betamethasone di-propionate/ salicylic acid If you forget to apply a dose, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember and then continue with your usual routine. If you stop using Betamethasone di-propionate/ salicylic acid If you have been using this product for a long period of time and you suddenly stop using it, you may experience worsening of your skin condition like redness and burning. Do not stop using this medicine without consulting your doctor first. Your doctor will tell you how to gradually stop using this medicine.

4. Possible side effects

Although it may be rare, some patients may experience serious side effects when using a medication. Stop using this product and contact your healthcare provider if you experience any allergic skin reactions, like rash, itching, red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin. This medicine was not reported to have side effects if used correctly. Side effects that are more likely to happen if the ointment is used more often than you should
