A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family:

Happy Mother’s Day to all our moms!!

I think the greatest gift our moms would all want is a hug. I am realizing the value of that every week more and more. I run into moments that I cannot not hug someone, especially in moments of death or tragedy. I hope we can figure out soon how we can hug each other safely. For now, it is surely important to recog-nize our mothers in the best way possible.

Our moms set the pace and tone of our families. We follow their lead and set our course from there. This year I think of the grandmothers who miss their grandchildren. We have so many in our parish who moved here to be with their grandchildren. Every Tuesday and Wednesday when I call people, I hear the cute things grandchildren do for their grandpar-ents and how much their grandmas want to just hug them. This is a relationship that is priceless, so this year let’s really appreciate them. Let’s pray especially for the ones in nursing homes and assisted living centers.

The other mothers I think of are our front liners trying to be safe and not carry this virus into their homes. I pray especially for single moms. They are our hero nurses and healthcare workers at the hospital, who never stop at work or at home. Let’s pray God gives them the strength in this moment and a moment of gratitude this weekend.

It has long been a Catholic understanding that when circumstances prevent one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiritual Communion, which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when one cannot receive Him in sacramental Communion. The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend Mass. Acts of Spiritual Communion increase our desire to receive sacramen-tal Communion and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to receive Holy Communion worthily. Pray this with live stream Mass:

Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, Come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there And unite myself wholly to you. Pope Asks Us to Pray the Rosary Pope Francis asked Catholics to make a special effort in May to pray the rosary, knowing that by doing so they will be united with believers around the world asking for Mary's intercession in stopping the coronavirus pandemic. "Contemplating the face of Christ with the heart of Mary, our mother, will make us even more united as a spiritual family and will help us overcome this time of trial." The month of May is traditionally devoted to Mary and many Catholics already are in the habit of praying the rosary at home during the month, he noted. "The restrictions of the pandemic have made us come to appreciate all the more this 'family' aspect, also from a spiritual point of view." Pope Francis wrote two prayers to Mary that can be recited at the end of the rosary.

"Mary Most Holy, stir our consciences, so that the enormous funds invested in developing and stockpiling arms will instead be spent on promoting effective research on how to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.” "Beloved Mother, help us realize that we are all mem-bers of one great family and to recognize the bond that unites us, so that, in a spirit of fraternity and solidarity, we can help to alleviate countless situations of poverty and need. Mensaje de Nuestro Pastor ¡Feliz Día de las Madres a todas nuestras mamás! Estimadas familias de los Santos Apóstoles, Creo que el mejor regalo que nuestras madres querrían es un abrazo. Me estoy dando cuenta más y más del valor de eso cada semana. Nos encontramos en momentos en los que no podemos abrazar a alguien, especialmente en mo-mentos de muerte o tragedia. Espero que pronto podamos descubrir cómo podemos abrazarnos con seguridad. Por ahora, es importante reconocer a nuestras madres de la mejor manera posible. Nuestras mamás marcan el ritmo y la vida de nuestras familias. Seguimos su ejemplo y esta-blecemos nuestra dirección desde ellas. Este año pienso en las abuelas que extrañan a sus nietos. Tenemos mu-chos en nuestra parroquia que se mudaron aquí para estar con sus nietos. Todos los martes y miércoles cuando llamo a las personas, escucho las cosas lindas que hacen los nietos por sus abuelos y cuánto desean abrazarlos. Esta es una relación que no tiene precio, por lo que este año real-mente los apreciaremos más que nunca. Oremos especialmente por los que se encuentran en los asilos y los centros de vida asistida. Las otras madres en las que pienso son las madres que se encuentran en primera fila tratando de estar a salvo y no llevar este virus a sus hogares. Rezo especialmente por las madres solteras. Ellas son verdaderamente nuestros hé-roes y todos los trabajadores de la salud en los hospitals por supuesto, que nunca se detienen en el trabajo o en casa. Oremos para que Dios les dé la fuerza en estos difíciles momentos y puedan tener un momento de paz y tranquilidad este fin de semana. ¡Que tengan una semana bendecida! Padre Paul
