This Sunday we hear the parable of the sower, which seems to be obscured from obvious inspection. Even the apostles questioned Jesus on why he does not explain the parable more plainly. The core issue is about one of freedom. If Jesus was to explain every thing overt-ly, we would be overwhelmed by the divine truth of God and have no choice but be consumed by God’s reality re-ducing us to machines of function rather than people of love.
This is the core of many Eastern religious philoso-phies. The perspective is that the state of fulfillment is uni-ty and dispersion within the universe. Such unity, where we are dispersed, or when our identity is absorbed into the larger reality destroys our minor reality. If we are ab-sorbed into God without maintaining personality and free-dom, then our existence is lost in the divine reality of God.
Fundamentally, love in God is a reality of free-dom, forcing love destroys love. Thus, Jesus speaks in parables so that those who want to hear the truth, those who want to accept the faith, and those who want to give over their lives to God would hear and believe allowing the divine life of Christ to take root into their soul. It is our choice to be united with God in this love which main-tains our personality and identity in the divine reality of God. The many are made one in the body of Christ through the reception of the Eucharist. It is through the Eucharist that the Holy intimate exchange of Love occurs between Christ and His bride, the Church.
Those who do not want to bend themselves and be united to God’s will, then would not hear and not be forced to convert. They reject the regular reception of rec-onciliation and communion. Love can only be offered and accepted; never coerced and demanded.
The question to ask one’s self is this, what sort of soil do we choose for our souls? Are we choosing to be hard soil, impervious to the word of God? Or maybe, we hear the truth of Christ, it quickly takes root, but as soon as there is ridicule or a challenge we shrink away and die back. Per-haps, our souls are rich in fertility but when the truth grows so does the desires of the world, which sprout faster and choke out the faith. But hopefully, our souls are rich with a focus on Jesus’ spiritual goodness so that we recog-nize His blessings and cultivate it into our lives to reap a divine harvest. What sort of soil is your soul?

La pregunta que debe hacerse es esta: ¿qué tipo de tierra elegimos para nuestras almas? ¿Estamos eligiendo ser tier-ra dura, impermeable a la palabra de Dios? O tal vez, es-cuchamos la verdad de Cristo, rápidamente se arraiga, pero tan pronto como hay un ridículo o un desafío, nos encogemos y morimos. Quizás, nuestras almas son ricas en fertilidad, pero cuando la verdad crece, también lo hacen los deseos del mundo, que brotan más rápido y ahogan la fe. Pero con suerte, nuestras almas son ricas con un enfoque en la bondad espiritual de Jesús para que po-damos reconocer Sus bendiciones y cultivarlas en nuestras vidas para cosechar una cosecha divina.

Bishop-Elect Bejarano, 50, was born in Seagraves, Texas, on
July 17, 1969, the son of José and María Elena Bejarano. His
family moved back to Mexico soon after his birth, and he
spent his early life in Aldama, Chihuahua. Bishop-Elect Be-
jarano has two brothers, a sister and a mother who live in
Texas. His father passed away in 1995.
He and his family moved to Tracy when he was 18. He im-
mediately began working in the farming fields in the San
Joaquin Valley to help support his family. Two years later,
he was able to act on his long-standing desire to become a
priest and applied to be a seminarian for the diocese of
Stockton. He studied philosophy for the diocese at the Arch-
diocesan Seminary of Tijuana and then completed his theo-
logical studies at Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon.
He was ordained to the priesthood by the Most Rev. Donald
Montrose on Aug. 15, 1998 for service in the
diocese of Stockton. He served as parochial vicar in the par-
ishes of St. George in Stockton and Sacred Heart in Turlock.
He was later called, in 2005, to be the founding pastor of Ho-
ly Family parish in Modesto. He was the pastor of St. Stani-
slaus Church in Modesto from 2008 to 2019 when he was
named the Pastor of the Cathedral of the Annunciation in
Stockton.
Bejarano will become only the second Hispanic auxiliary
bishop in San Diego. Auxiliary Bishop Gilbert Chávez
served in that capacity for 33 years before retiring in 2007.
Bishop-Elect Bejarano has served as chaplain to the Migrant
Ministry in the Stockton diocese, where he celebrated Mass
with and for the families and workers in the migrant camps
along with providing the sacraments and counseling. He has
been the spiritual director for the Spanish Catholic Radio in
the area. He also served in leadership positions at the Stock-
ton diocese as a member of the Presbyteral (Priest) Council,
the Diaconate Board, the Preparatory Commission for the
Diocesan Synod of 2005, and the College of Consultors.

la Diócesis de Stockton como miembro del Consejo Presbit-
eral (Sacerdote), la Mesa Directiva del Diaconado, la
Comisión Preparatoria para el Sínodo Diocesano del 2005 y
el Colegio de Consultores.

VOLUNTEERS AT MASS ARE NEEDED
We need volunteers to usher and clean the church after Mass. Per Diocesan guidelines, volunteers should be under the age of 65, in good health, physically able to do what is asked, friendly, and patient!
Greet/Usher - you will greet parishioners, ensure they have masks and they hand sanitize, guide parishioners to their pews (if needed)
Clean/Sanitize - you will sanitize the pews and specific surfaces/areas after Mass - supplies will be provided A mask should be worn during the time you are volunteer-ing.
If you are willing to volunteer, please check in with any one of the trained volunteers after Mass and he/she will gladly show you what to do.
Need a mask? Janet has different sizes available for $5 each. Proceeds go to St. Stephens. Give Janet a call at (760)742-2359.
