    Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres

Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres is prominent French classical

painter in 17th century; he was born in August 29th, 1780. His

father started to cultivate Ingres as artist when he was very

    young.

In 1791, he was sent to fine art academy to learn art, one of his

outstanding portrait works were severely criticized, because ofits "unique, revolutionary and Gothic style". He turned to Rome,

and lived in there for 18 years, studying great masters' original

works, while creating oil painting and pencil drawing works.

Ingres paid much attention on details, and attempted to make

lines and shapes clean and trim, he seeks dim and pure aesthetic

feelings. We would think his paintings too clean to see any

    painting feeling.

    Lord Frederic Leighton

Frederic Leighton was born in Scarborough, England in. Unlike

most major artists of the nineteenth century Leighton did notstudy at the Royal Academy Schools, but received his training in

    Brussels, Paris and Frankfurt.

Leighton was the only painter ever to be raised to the English

peerage. He seems to have lived a charmed life; he was possessed

of golden good looks. He suddenly found himself the center of

attention, with his paintings the talk of London. He was elected as

an Associate Royal Academician in 1864 and in 1878 was electedPresident. He became a baron in 1896 with the title of Baron

Leighton of Stretton, the only English artist to receive that

    honor. He died in 1896.

the most reviled and the most beloved of French artists. He was

scorned by progressive painters and critics, who saw his paintingall that was wrong with the official French world of art.

Frdric Bazille was born in Montpellier, Hrault, Languedoc-

Roussillon, France, into a wealthy Protestant family. He became

interested in painting after seeing some works of EugneDelacroix. His family agreed to let him study painting, but only if

he also studied medicine. Frdric Bazille joined a Zouave

regiment in August 1870, a month after the outbreak of the

Franco-Prussian War. On November 28 of that year he was with

his unit at the Battle of Beaune-la-Rolande when, his officer

having been injured, he took command and led an assault on the

German position. He was hit twice in the failed attack and died on

the battlefield at the age of twenty nine. His father journeyed to

the battlefield a few days later to take his body back for burial

at Montpellier over a week later.

    Paul Herman

Paul Herman was born in Los Angeles in 1962. Pauls childhood

developed his taste for travel as his parents moved from Paulsbirthplace while he was still a baby, to Morocco, Sicily, Malta,

eventually settling for Pauls primary schooling in Florence, Italy.

Pauls father, Victor Herman, was an obsessed painter who didnt

always provide his family with food, but seldom ran out of paint.

Paul later studied art in London & New York, but at sixteen he

had already fled the nest to find himself drawing portraits of

tourists on the streets of Londons Piccadilly Circus. When

pressed to define his style Paul admits to roots in theRenaissance with impressionist influence, but more telling is his

statement: I remember seeing kids at University looking for

their style before they even had the tools or, for that matter,

anything to say. I realize I have always tried to simply, and
