This weekend will also be a double

header as these drivers will move over to Mobile International Speed-way on Saturday night for another 125 laps of hard nose racing. The Super Stocks, Sports-man and Bombers will also be in action tonight. Tomorrow night in Mobile, the Pro Trucks, Sportsman and Bombers are added to the night’s activities.

I also want to change gears for a moment

and remind everyone that in just two weeks our Demo Derby will be in action along with the Faster Pastor race, the Sportsman and Bomb-ers. The Demo Derby is always a blast, so if you like to tear things up then this is right up your alley, and only $5.00

Did you see the great performances turned in last weekend at the Chicagoland Speed-way by our last 2 Derby winners? Chase Elliott won the NASCAR Nationwide race, and the teen sensation from Michigan who won the last two Snowballs, Erik Jones made his first Nationwide race a big one with a 7th place finish.

Round three of the four race shoot-

out starts tonight for the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Super Late Models. We have witnessed some of the best short track racing any fan could ever ask for in the first two Bliz-zard races. Drivers such as Daniel Hemric, Bubba Pollard, Augie Grill, Donnie Wilson and Anderson Bowen are on top of their games, but they will all be racing to improve their point’s standings and a checkered flag at this famous track that is known nationwide.

Drivers are gunning to finish up both the

Buddy’s Blizzard Series and the Southern Super Series with a top ten in the final standings, making them eligible for a provisional starting spot in the Snowball. Last year’s benefactors were Texas driver Chris Davidson and Oklaho-ma’s Donnie Wilson.

Snowball Derby is on the way...and Chuck takes a look.

Steve Meyer turns 47 years young in a few months. A few months after that, Five Flags Speedway will celebrate the 47th annual Snowball Derby. Want to take a guess on how many of short-track Holy Grail races Meyer has missed? Zero, zilch, nada.

Meyer is one of a handful of Five Flags’ faithful fanatics that can boast seeing every Snowball from its first two-time winner Wayne Niedecken Sr. (1968, 1970) to its most recent and reigning two-time champion, Erik Jones (2012-13) — even if his memory is a little fuzzy on those early races.

“That first one, I was in diapers,” Meyer remembered. “My dad took my brother and me out there. Mom went to some type of Tupperware conven-tion, I think. We thought every race was going to be like the Snowball Derby.”

All of his history and knowledge makes Meyer somewhat of an author-ity, an expert witness if you will, when the subject turns to Super Late Model racing at Pensacola’s high banks.

“If I had a dollar for every lap I saw at Five Flags, I’d be like Donald Trump,” joked Meyer, who works for Orkin Pest Control.

Who can blame him or any other fan for those high expectations after the first two Blizzard Series races of the year left packed houses hungry for more?

“This year has been so fun to watch,” Meyer said. “There has been so much competition toward the front, it gives you the feeling that 10 to 12 guys could win out there.” Sure, Bubba Pollard has won the first two legs of the Blizzard Series, but neither has been a cakewalk.

And the never-ending, door-to-door battle Pollard and Augie Grill, anoth-er two-time Snowball winner, engaged in at the Rubber & Specialties 125 in May was the stuff of legends.

“As a matter of fact, the battle between (Pollard) and Augie Grill was a battle better than the Snowball Derby battles from a few years ago,” Meyer assessed, referencing the Chase Elliott-D.J. VanderLey duel from 2011 and the Jones-Kyle Busch clash in 2012.
