There are two types of revolutionarymovements, those that discharge theiraccumulated energy on returningpower to the people and those thatinvest that energy into building upsystems. Both are approaches toremedying injustice. The formergives the people the responsibility toguard their freedoms, the latterpresumes that injustice can only beremedied by systems, not by people.The former is democratic, the latter isautocratic. The modern day liberal is autocratic.His beliefs are the product of anaristocracy which rejected rule by ahereditary aristocracy, in favor of ruleby an ideological aristocracy. Theycalled this process by which one elitewinnowed itself down, revolution, butsuch purges were not true revolutions,they were the transition of powerfrom people who ruled because oftheir blood, to people who ruledbecause of their revolutionaryconsciousness. These people toogenerally came from the upper tomiddle classes. The only differencewas they believed in a new kind ofaristocracy. An aristocracy built onthe right of those who knew better torule in order to improve the lives ofthose who did not know better. Thatboiled down, is the essence of theleft. Democracy is not idealistic, it isrealistic. It must be realistic becauseit disperses its decision makingamong the people who rule it. Thosepeople have natural human failings.Rule by democracy means playingthe odds. It means not investing toomuch in any particular wave, buthaving confidence that the combinedwaves will eventually carry the shiphome. Centralization is alien todemocracy , because i t meansinvesting in systems at the expense oft h e p e o p l e . T h e i n c r e a s i n gcentralization of a government alsomeans a reduction in the extent towhich the people participate in itsdecisions. In a democracy, individuals do thel o n g t e r m p l a n n i n g , w h i l egovernments do the short termplanning, because all long termplanning is subject to revision, whenthe government is subject to revision.This is its weakness as it combines awise people with a government thathas difficulty thinking more than afew years ahead. When centralplanning becomes the focus however,individuals do only short termplanning, while governments do allthe long term planning for them. Thisis a far more devastating weakness inthe long run, because it combines afoolish people with an arrogantgovernment. Liberal aristocracy is not realistic, it

is idealistic. It does not followworkable policies, but policies that itbelieves must work, because theyaccord with their ideological view ofthe world, or simply the will of theirleader. Where democracy suffersfrom ’spot fallibility’, the centralizedsystems of the left suffer from ‘totalfallibility’. This resembles a unit withseveral internal serviceable parts thatcan be swapped out and replaced, asopposed to a sealed single integratedunit that cannot be serviced. Theformer can have parts that will failand be replaced, and still go onworking. The latter will simply failand take everything down with it. Movements which claim to berevolutionary and liberationist, whichinstead are quickly revealed tooppressive and elitist, reveal afundamental hypocrisy. And grandhypocrisy in the ideals of a movementdemonstrate its unworkability, just asa product whose description differsfundamental ly from i ts actualfunctionality will never do what itsbuyers expect it to do. In a politicalmovement , hypocr isy may besimilarly described as a divergencebetween words and actions. Whenwords and actions dramaticallydiverge, it means that the statedpurpose of a movement is not its realpurpose. The stated purpose of the left is tol i be r a t e , bu t i t s a c t i ons a r eoppressive. And it is its actions whichare therefore truly revealing, not itswords. Hypocrisy is revealed in thatgap between actions and words. Thewider the gap, the more unstable theactual policies of the movement willbe. Since goals are most easily metwhen there is the least divergencebetween the real goals and the statedgoals, major gaps result in goalswhich can never be met. When goalsare unmeetable because of flaws in

the ideals of the movement itself, themovement can either confront the gapbetween its ideals and its actual aims,or maintain ideological conformitythrough ideological xenophobia, byblaming outside enemies and internalsubversives for its failures. Eitherway its only remedy is likely to bemore of the same, expanding the verysystems that are failing. Ideological autocracies that arerevolutionary require a constantrevolution to maintain their vigor.This means fighting internal andexternal enemies. Since politicalautocracy is institutional, liberalautocrats thrive on tearing downexisting institutions and replacingthem with their own institutions.Habitually distrustful of naturalinstitutions such as the family. theyinsist on replacing them with artificialinstitutions of their own making.Once overlaid with laws and givenl a r g e r e s p o n s i b i l i t i e s , t h e s einstitutions quickly devolve intobureaucracies. The more control isexercised over them, the morecentralized they become. Eachmodification only adds another layerof bureaucracy. Reform of thebureaucracy then itself becomes anexercise in expanding the size andscope of the bureaucracy. Bureaucracies also make for awonderful cover for hypocrisy as theyappear to be governed by whollyobjective rules. This of course ignoresthe underlying bias at the heart ofbureaucracy. The bias of the system.Human laws are those laws whichprotect human beings from each otherand the system. Inhuman laws arethose laws which protect systemsfrom human beings. Bureaucracythrives on inhuman laws, because byequating human welfare with itsworkings, it acquires a superhumanstatus. Bureaucracy becomes next to

godliness. Centralization requires a constantexpansion of the size of governmentin order to accommodate largerresponsibilities. This process canrapidly transform a democracy into abureaucracy, as such a system cannotbe run by the people. Instead it is runby a series of internal laws, overseenby managers who outlast virtually allpoliticians. While politicians may tryto dictate to bureaucracies, theirability to interfere in the internalworkings of the bureaucracy islimited by the same process thatmakes it impossible to people tomanage those bureaucracies. Size. Where businesses expand throughrevenues, bureaucracies expandt h r o u g h t h e s c o p e o f t h e i rresponsibilities. Since all institutionsseek to expand, yet businesses arel imi ted in the scope of the i rexpansion by their revenues, whilebureaucracies are only limited by thescope of their responsibilities–bureaucracies are able to expand wellbeyond businesses. And they are notbound by resources , as thoseresources are derived from thewinners in the economy. Unlikebusinesses who have to bet on theright horse to win, bureaucracies winno matter which horse comes in first.Because they are built on resourcestaken from the businesses who wonthe bet. Bureaucracy is the perfect pair toliberal aristocracy, because both ofthem are undemocratic. Bureaucracyeventually swallows revolutionaryimpulses, making them into anotheraspect of the system. A system that iswholly corrupt, because it wieldspower without oversight. Thusbureaucracy becomes the ultimateexpression of that fundamentalhypocrisy a t the hear t of therevolutionary impulse by aristocratspromising freedom to the people theywould rule over. It reaffirms theirrule, drowns their opponents inregulations and fosters secret systemsof loyalties and affinities within thebureaucracy that can be used forinternal feuds and rewards. When power is invested in a system,the system i tself becomes theexpression of that power, whollyapart from any goals that it wasoriginally meant to serve. When anideology invests power in a system,the system comes to represent them e a n i n g o f t h a t i d e o l o g y .Bureaucracy is the terminus of allideologies that steal power from thepeople. It is an expression of theirbelief in the system over the people.Those who would rule in the name ofthe people, must either give up powerto the people, or cease to deny thehypocrisy at the root of theirideology. Bureaucracy is institutionalizedhypocrisy, it is the product of rulerswho believe in systems rather than in

Muhammad Parvez, 60, and his son,Waqas, 29, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Tuesday in the Dec.10 2007 strangulation of Aqsa andthey face an automatic term of life inprison. At the time of her shocking murder,which Peel Police have described as a“planned and deliberate act,” theGrade 11 Mississauga student wasestranged from her Muslim familybecause she was bristling at theirrestrictions. She had moved in with afriend’s family and no longer wore ahijab in her Applewood high schoolin Mississauga. In an agreed statement of facts readby Sandra Caponecchia, court heardAqsa, who had already been promisedby her family in an arranged

marriage, ran away from home twicebecause of her lack of freedom. Withassistance from her school counselor,she stayed at a shelter the first timeand with a friend the next. Despiteher father allowing her to wearWestern clothes and begging her toreturn, she refused to come back. She had told her friends that her dadhad sworn on the Koran that hewould kill her if she ran away again. On Dec. 10, her brother Waqsaconfronted her at the school bus stopand she was taken away in the Parvezvan at about 7:20 am. Just over 30minutes later, her father called 911and said he “killed his daughter”using his hands. Police found her fully clothed in herbasement bedroom, lying face up andwith no vital signs. An autopsydetermined she’d died from “neckcompressions.” Her mother Anwar Jan told policethat she questioned her husband aboutwhy he’d killed her.“He said this is my insult. Mycommunity will say you have notbeen able to control your daughter.This is my insult. She is making menaked.” When asked if she disagreed withwhat he’d done, Aqsa’s motherrefused to protest his actions.“Icannot say anything. Whatever hethinks, he knows about it. “

Waqsa, a tow truck driver, told a co-worker that he intended to kill hissister and his father would take theblame. “Waqas explained …that hiss is ter was causing the familyembarrassment and he had to do it.” He later told the friend that the guiltwas killing him. “He admittedchoking her until she died and saidthat there was no evidence againsthim,” the Crown said in the agreedstatement. “Waqas also explainedhow what happened was partlyAqsa’s own fault because he had triedtwice to talk to her and he evenoffered to get her own apartment andpay for it so she didn’t have to workand she rejected his offers.” Her mother, dressed in a white hijaband black cloak, looked on and wipedaway tears as Justice Bruce Durnosaid the two killers face at least 10years in prison before being eligiblefor parole. The father, dressed in ablue sweatshirt, and his son, his hairslicked back in a ponytail, showedlittle emotion as they listened to thelengthy recounting of the heinousfamily murder. And now an oil war? Over the pastfew months, Israel has had a coupleof major natural gas finds in theMediterranean off our northeastcoast. The finds are so significant thatIsrael could find itself energyindependent, which is quite importantto us given the Arab refusal to sell oilto us. Although the wells are in Israeliterritorial waters, and althoughprivate investors in Israel have spentmillions of dollars exploring the wells(I had occasion to review several ofthe prospectuses that raised moneyfor the exploration), Hezbullah – yesHezbullah – is now trying to layclaim to them. The terrorist organization warnedthat it will not allow Israel to takepossession of the offshore fields,which could make the Jewish Stateenergy self-sufficient for the firsttime in history. The As-Safir Lebanese newspapertold its readers that the gas field “waslocated between Israeli and Cypriotterritorial waters and stretches towardthe Lebanese coast .”Lebanesenewspapers also reported thatprevious Israeli gas finds “were eithertaking place in areas stretching toLebanese territorial waters or otherspots far away from the Israeli coast.” Hizbullah’s claims were stated by the
