Parent Newsletter | Friday, October 1, 2021

From the Superintendent’s Office

I’m excited to share some news that is hot off the press: Model Laboratory School has ranked in the top 5 highest average ACT scores by district in Kentucky for 2020-21!

Avg. ACT Composite 1. Craft Academy 28.6 2. Jackson Independent 22.3 3. Fort Thomas Independent 22.2 4. Beechwood Independent 22.1 5. Model Laboratory Schools at EKU 21.7

A special congratulations for this notable achievement to the seniors in the Class of 2022, who continue to follow in Model’s tradition of academic excellence. I’m confident these next generation leaders will continue to stand out among their peers.

I want to once again congratulate our entire Model community for persisting and maintaining our academic standards through this pandemic. Those efforts have proven successful especially in comparison to other schools across the Commonwealth. As you can see below, our students did exceptionally well on the state assessments last year compared to others in the state. Having in-person instruction no doubt helped our students to perform at this level of achievement– thank you, parents and families, for your continued dedication to supporting Model.

Finally, this weekend, Model and the entire EKU Family will be celebrating EKU Homecoming 2021 with fun festivities for the whole family. As part of the EKU community, you are also invited to share in the celebrations, too! More information is available at homecoming.eku.edu.

As always, thank you for choosing Model for your child’s education.

NOW AVAILABLE:Optional Test-to-Stay Program

For more information, see Page 2!

Test-to-Stay Program Now Available!

The latest addition to Model’s COVID-19 Prevention Strategy is the optional Test-to-Stay program! If your child has been contact-traced and must quarantine, you can now take your child to Model before school for a rapid test. If the rapid test is negative, the child can stay at school for the day. After 5 consecutive negative rapid tests, the child will no longer be quarantined.

How to Participate • The first school day after your child has been contact-traced by Model,

you’ll drive up to the Model Circle (near Entrance 15, beside the play-grounds) with your child between 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. You and your child will remain in the car.

• A licensed healthcare professional will be set-up outside. They’ll ask for your contact information, and then administer a rapid COVID-19 test to your child in the car. You and your child will remain in the car for about 10-15 minutes until the rapid test results are received.

• If the student’s test results are NEGATIVE, your student will go to class and come back for four more rapid tests in the following four school days. If they receive five negative rapid test results, the student may safely be released from quarantine.

• The student may not participate in extracurricular activities until they are officially released from quarantine (after FIVE negative rapid tests in a row).

• If the student’s test results are POSITIVE, all persons in the vehicle will be asked to take a rapid test and a PCR test, which will be sent to a lab for results within 24-48 hours; the student must then quarantine.

Note: the Test-to-Stay program only offers COVID-19 tests for students who are currently required to quarantine due to direct exposure to COVID-19.
