high above all the earth. (3vv)

“… so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” Jesus prays very intimately to his Father that his followers might have unity. Today’s Hymns: 636 The Church’s one foundation; 540 O Thou who at Thy Eucharist; 332 I the Lord of sea and sky; 531 Onward Christian Pilgrims. Mass setting: Rizza (955)

COLLECT O God the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: we beseech you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

FIRST READING The First reading is from the book of Acts.

Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at God’s right hand. ‘I can see heaven thrown open’ he said ‘and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.’ At this all the members of the council shouted out and stopped their ears with their hands; then they all rushed at him, sent him out of the city and stoned him. The witnesses put down their clothes at the feet of a young man called Saul. As they were stoning him, Stephen said in invocation, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ Then he knelt down and said aloud, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them’; and with these words he fell asleep.

This is the word of the Lord. Acts 7

RESPONSORIAL PSALM The Lord is king, most high above all the earth.

The Lord is king, let earth rejoice, the many coastlands be glad. His throne is justice and right. R/

The skies proclaim his justice; all peoples see his glory. All you spirits, worship him. R/

For you indeed are the Lord most high above all the earth, exalted far above all spirits. R/

Psalm 97

SECOND READING The Second Reading is from the book of Revelations.

I, John, heard a voice speaking to me: ‘Very soon now, I shall be with you again, bringing the reward to be given to every man according to what he deserves. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Happy are those who will have washed their robes clean, so that they will have the right to feed on the tree of life and can come through the gates into the city.’   I, Jesus, have sent my angel to make these revelations to you for the sake of the churches. I am of David’s line, the root of David and the bright star of the morning.   The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come.’ Let everyone who listens answer, ‘Come.’ Then let all who are thirsty come: all who want it may have the water of life, and have it free.   The one who guarantees these revelations repeats his promise: I shall indeed be with you soon. Amen; come, Lord Jesus.

This is the word of the Lord. Rev. 22

GOSPEL A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St John.

‘I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. Father, I desire that those also, whom you have

given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. ‘Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you; and these know that you have sent me. I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.’

This is the Gospel of the Lord. John 17

REGINA CAELI Joy to thee, O Queen of Heaven, alleluia He whom thou wast meet to bear, alleluia. As he promised, hath arisen, alleluia. Pour for us to him thy prayer, alleluia.

Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. For the Lord has risen indeed, alleluia.

Let us pray: O God, by the Resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, you have brought joy to the whole world: grant that, by the help of his mother, the Virgin Mary, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life; through Christ the Lord. Amen.
