Dear Parishioners: Holy Week 2020. In many ways Holy Week will be different this year. For me, it will be the first time, as a pastor, that I will not wash feet on Holy Thursday. It will be the first time that I will not kiss the cross on Good Friday, and the first time I will bring no one into the church at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. There will be no procession with palms on Palm Sunday, no procession with the Eucharist on Holy Thursday, and no Easter fire in front of church as we begin to tell the story of Jesus’ resurrection. We will do our best to put the liturgies from Blessed Sacrament online, but they will certainly be scaled back. In many ways there will be a certain sadness or sense of lost during this year’s Holy Week services. Yet, despite the covid-19 pandemic, Holy Week will still be the same. It will still tell the story of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus, the Son of God. We will still proclaim his triumphant arrival in Jerusalem on Sunday, and the celebration of Passover on Thursday, his Last Supper when he gave his disciples the Eucharist. We will tell of his arrest and trial before Pilate and his journey to Calvary where he is crucified and died. And when all seemed lost, we will then sing an Alleluia and proclaim the truly remarkable story of his resurrection. Jesus is risen! He is no longer dead! For nothing, not even death or the coronavirus can kill the Good News we proclaim. This year will be different in how we celebrate but not in what we celebrate. And if we have prepared ourselves during this season of Lent, there will be reason to rejoice. More than ever, this year we have faced illness and pain, fear and isolation, and in many cases death itself. We know the reality and the consequence of sin. Yet our Christian faith does not stop there; for the message of this week is the battle Jesus, our Savior, fought against the forces of sin. Not only do we know its power, not only do we know the battle, but we boldly proclaim it to all the world. And as we tell the world what happened, we proclaim why…because God loves us. I invite you to join us online this week for our Holy Week services. They may be different from what you are use to doing, but the message remains the same. Jesus died for our sins and he rose to new life…because he loves us. Never forget that. Fr. Jeff

SCHOOL NEWS! SCHOOL CLOSED Here is what Blessed Sacrament is doing to allow you to practice your faith as fully as possible during this crisis.
First of all, there will be no public masses until further notice. Everyone has a dispensation from the weekly obligation to attend Mass. There will be no daily Masses for the public. Mass at Blessed Sacrament can be viewed online - there will be a link on the website. We will tape the Saturday evening Mass "Sine Populo" (without people) and it will be available on Sunday morning. You can make a spiritual communion. You can also call the parish for all other spiritual and sacramental needs.
The parish is not closed - questions can be directed to the parish office at 217-528-7521. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM.
Adoration Chapel will remain open and you are encouraged to come and pray. The public hours will remain 5 AM to 10 PM. Please remember that the Chapel is for private prayer. We ask that you not pray out loud or in a way that distracts another person trying to pray privately.
Holy water is available in the dispenser in the chapel. Please bring your own container to take it home. If you are taking large amounts, please see one of the priests to have them bless your water. Parish Penance Services have been cancelled, but we will be offering confessions in the confessional off the chapel, every day, Monday through Friday, from noon to 1 PM. Confessionals are being sanitized daily.
Visit the parish website at www.bsps.org. This is the best way to know what is going on in the parish.
The parish depends on your stewardship and generosity in order to bring sacraments and spiritual services to you. With everything severely curtailed, our finances have suffered. Please remember to mail in your contribution or donate online through the secure link below. This will help us meet our obligations. Call the parish office to sign up for ACH (automatic contributions). Many parishioners are also suffering financially from this crisis.
· A donation to H.O.P.E. (Helping Our People in Emergencies), formerly known as St. Vincent de Paul, will let our parish reach out to them.

ADORATION HOURS: “Nowhere on earth are you more welcomed, Nowhere on earth are you more loved, than by Jesus, living and truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time that you will spend on earth. Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen your union with Him and make your soul everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in heaven, and will bring about an everlasting peace on earth.” (St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta) For further information please email Karen Senger at [email protected].
